Final Fantasy 13 Hype Thread?

Again, what you believe "should" be prioritized doesn't mean everyone else feels the same way.
Quit being dumb.

pfft, was still announced first :| same with that Cell Phone FFXIII game that is PSP now. I want those far far more than I do an MMO. Fuck MMOs >.> yes it is an opinion but it's really annoying to have something announced, get excited about it, and then have it pushed to the side lines for things announced later that doesn't seem really nearly as potentially good. FFXIV still doesn't sound grea

Announced first does not mean it comes out first. Also, the games are being developed by two different teams, have been worked on for two different times periods (just because one was announced first, doesn't mean it's production began first), and your taste in gaming doesn't equate to anyone and their tastes. Vs. XIII isn't being "pushed to the side lines" even though it was announced first, stop being so god damn childish.

Fuck.

God dammit.

And considering we've known about their new MMO since 2005 when they announced they were working on it and that it was codenamed "Rapture" and they didn't announce Versus XIII until E3 2006.
That and like Koenig posted, different teams working on different games, etc.

And occasionally developers from Versus XIII were pulled away to help work on XIII, so that lagged behind.

Some stuffs about it. Still don't know if I'll be happy thinking about it as a FF but it seems like a good RPG at the very least :p I miss my airships, world map, towns, exploring :(

Towns, Nautilus, Palumpolom, Bowdam all say hello.
Yes most of those you're being pursued through, as Cocoon is an artificial world which PSICOM has their hands in every aspect of, so generally they'll always be right behind you.

Nautilus however, you aren't being pursued through, and it also has NPC's who talk to you as you pass by.
No need for shops as you utilize the "ingame online" shops through save points.
And Pulse doesn't have towns, because well, nobody lives there. It's a wild, savage land where l'Cie are exiled to.

Exploring, well it's a known fact that Cocoon is linear, then when you get to Pulse it's an open area with branching areas, there's plenty of exploration on Pulse.
FFX was linear as well, and one of the top rated FF's.

World maps, we haven't had a world map since FFIX as in the typical giant character and tiny towns, get used to it.

Airships, sure there's airships/flying apparatuses in the game, but you don't get your own airship.
Which I don't see the problem with, as in XII the Strahl was pretty much useless with the introduction of gate crystals, and XIII has warp points.
You can't go back to Cocoon anyways, so you'd only use it on Pulse, but the warp points delete that need entirely.

This game is bound to disappoint but I can't help but hope for a series revival. I haven't really enjoyed a FF game since 9. I never even bothered to beat 12 despite being at the end dungeon, so if 13 is anywhere near that boring I'm not going to be too thrilled when the 9th rolls around.

It hasn't disappointed me, but hey.
I also loved XII, and have played through it multiple times, but different strokes for different folks.
I for one enjoy the changes they've made to XIII, within the context of the game it all works, the battle system is where it shines though.
That's what I like about FF, it's not afraid to change.
I foresee XV bringing a lot of changes too.

The biggest disappointments, for me at least, have been with characters and story. Tidus was a tool in FFX (Wakka was a pretty fun character I'll admit). I didn't give a shit about Vaan...or any of those characters in FFXII. FFX-2? No chance I was even going to touch that game.

The FF trend lately has been too much experimenting with new shit and not enough creativity in character, story and environment design. Crossing my fingers that this changes in 13 and I actually want to finish the game when I put it in my system.

XIII has a lot of character development, and you're missing out on X-2, it's a helluva fun battle and job system.

X-2 sucked for story, characters, and music, but, god damn, it was damn fun :P the dress sphere (which people stupidly hate cause it's dresses), the battle system, etc, all great.

FFX wasn't bad either, people really hate it cause they don't like the change of sphere grid (I Loved it) and the lack of world map + airship to fly around (I Miss that too :( ). They seem to hate Tidus for some reason too. Sure the voice actors weren't great but it wasn't too bad. Really bet if Tidus didn't have a voice they'd have liked him a bit more. He wasn't as chipper as Zidane (who I loved as a hero) but not as emo tarded as Squall. He was pretty good balance of positive thinking, but acting real in getting a little depressed when shit was blowing his mind.

XII I never really liked.. I mean, the characters, music, story, and battle system are all meh. The world was fun to run around in though, I did love that. I felt like it was unfinished really.

XIII I dunno, I'm mixed. Excited about somethings, disappointed about others. I like the idea of playing with stats and gear and all the party members completely instead of only one in battle. But it doesn't sound bad either. I dunno.

you sound like my GF, always looking for something negative to say about something we should be enjoying. I have loved every single FF i have played, and there is something about each i did not like. If you are holding out for a 100% like version of a FF game well thats to bad. The game developers to not cater to 1 particular type of person. I'm sure there will be things about 13 i wont like, but as long as they are outweighed the good things of the game then i'm certain i will enjoy it.

(btw X-2 rocked)

I look at everything critically :P I do find things I like and things I don't like in everything. Nothing's perfect, but nothing is absolutely completely shit. Even bad games usually have some element I like.

So how critically did you look at that VS XIII trailer to judge it to be good?
Seriously, explain to me your methodology in determining a game will be good via a trailer that shows no gameplay.

The FF I found a bit unfinished seemed to be FF9 for me, maybe the PS1 was showing its age by that point but the graphics looked bleh to me and the game felt too easy, I think I probably only wiped twice in that entire game and one of those times I went somewhere I knew I shouldnt be at those low lv's lol.

Overall I have enjoyed every FF game they always seem to hold my attention a long time. ^^

See I was okay with the sphere grid in FFX, I thought that was one of the decent things it had going for it.

And I agree, Zidane was an awesome main character to play. A cocky little shit for a hero = win. If I didn't somehow lose disc 3 I'd probably replay FF9 right now before 13 comes out :\

I judge it cause the team working on it for now lol. Since it's the same team that made Kingdom Hearts and articles I read said it'll be similar in style for gameplay, i.e. action RPG like KH, that makes me excited. I'm not sure if the story, characters, whatnot will be good. The music in the trailer I like, and if it's like that in game than I'll like its music more than FFXIII :P that's pretty much how I look at it for now. There's a possibility it'll suck, of course, but I'll judge more when more info is released, which is why I want more info about it than FFXIV which has already had a ton more released about its gameplay than Versus XD

And ya, FF9 is my all time favorite FF :) I love that it feels like the older FFs while still having good new additions later with the best compilation of music from the series and such greatness all around. I don't think there was anything that really annoyed me about FF9.

only thing i didn't like about 9 was being forced to use your limit break moves. other then that the game was fantastic. :)

Oh, this comes out next week, doesn't it?
Damn you, Capcom, for releasing the MH3 demo the day before.
