Although I did not write this review, I couldn't have agreed more with the author. There may be people on this forum who may not have been old enough to remember the original FFIV some 14 years ago on the SNES/Super Famicom. Please keep an open mind when reading this, and for those of you who happen to own FFIV Advance, and are pretty deep into the game. You'll see where this comes in. This review pointed out all the flaws I saw in the port to the GBA, albiet it does run a bit faster on the DS, though not by much and the flaws are still noticable. Lemme know what you think by posting here...(I can feel the falming already...)

I haven't played the GBA port yet, so I can't address the slowdown and graphic glitches he's talking about. The rest of his review doesn't really impress me; he seems to be slagging the game for being a port and not totally revamped. His is also the only low score of the bunch; it doesn't surprise me, because I think he's being unnecessarily harsh.

FFIV was the RPG which got me hooked on the genre after chopping my way through the no-story level grind of "Dragon Warrior." I don't really care about the difficulty if the story is intact.

I look forward to trying this one out soon.

I can see your point. Though every media publication out there was deeming this as a port. So some of those things will of course carry over. Though given the amount of time they possessed this game, they could have fixed those errors...couldn't they? The author does have a point about Square rereleasing the classics, and not making many original titles as of late. I probably wouldn't give the actual game itself that low of a score, but the effort that Sqaure put in it is just wrong. It's sad to see such a wonderful game maker, just say...

"Eh, add a new dungeon. Slap ADVANCE on it and market the puppy. CHING CHING!!!"

I don't think he is harsh, because if you have about 13 years of revamps and ports of the original title. Shouldn't you have at least a perfect if not immaculate copy of FFIV by now? As for the other guys, they gave their reasons, and gave the score for the game, not the product. The product itself in regards is crap, considering all the hype the online sites and mags gave it for the past 7-8 months. The game itself is timeless. A classic. I just can't fathom why Square would release it as such. I'm dissapointed.

I recommend you buy it. It's a good game. This is one of the better in the entire series. Though the issues the author pointed out are very well seen. Not so much in the beginning of the game, but later on in the game.

Wow, I actually remembering buying this game when it came out for SNES all those years ago. Like Halifiren, this was the game that got me hooked into RPG games in the first place.

I agree with both of you and somewhat to the review too. I thought the reviewer was a bit harsh. He seemed pretty focused on chopping down FFXI Advance, as well as the box artist and the music composer. While it isn't perfect, I don't think it deserved to be thrashed as much as it was. I'd rather play the game as it was, rather then having to see a total remake of it that ended up not living up to the expections (like Wild Arms: Alter Code F...so sad...). But that is only my opinion. But then, as Vanity pointed out, after all the years of re-releasing this game, couldn't they have gotten it perfect?

For example, the slow downs. I remember it happening in the SNES version, but no where near as often as it does in the GBA version. While it doesn't totally ruin the gameplay, it can get a little annoying.

I still liked it. It's still fun and it is just great to get the chance to play these again.

I agree with you there on the Amano artistry. Personally his drawing look like shit, but then again, he has created some other wonderful pieces of art. I'm 50/50 on his art. Though art is basically a preference by whom ever sees it. I honestly laughed at the remarks the reviewer gave it, it was funny. Yes the SNES had some slowdown, but not as much as the GBA version. His closing remarks about Square (not the Enix side of the house) about capitalism is in my regards...pretty goddamn true. Milkin' shit for all its worth (probably due to the POS movie FF:TSW...that movie sucked galkan sausage).

True, that movie is nightmare inducing. True, I suppose SE is milking their old titles for everything they can. Still, I wouldn't mind the chance at replaying FFVI or Chrono Trigger.

I don't really agree with that review much (and as the behind-the-scenes guy for GF I can tell you that A LOT of people are pissed at that review, haha). Yes, the game's all glitched to hell, but it's a lot more than just a cheap cash-in. I like the fact that the old SNES games are getting ported to a handheld that US players actually have (well I have a Wonderswan and FF4 for it but that's not important). I also like the nice new stuff they added to this port. If they had hammered out the bugs this would've been by far the best version of FF4 out there. I'm inclined to say the Wonderswan version is the best one overall as it is both portable and completely without flaws.

I only have one huge issue with FFIV Advanced.

I agree with the reviewer on at least one score - it's TOO FUCKING EASY!

I think Octomammoth attacked me a total of 3 times, and Antlion only once... WTF

If I don't have to use Berserk to beat the later bosses, I'm officially going to declare FFIVa the easiest version. =/ because even the US version made me use Berserk to beat the four-fiend battle.

Thanks to an unexpected Christmas gift certificate, I picked up a copy of Final Fantasy IV. I'm liking it so far.

The music isn't playing up to SNES standards, but I can overlook that. It seems easier, but that doesn't bother me too much because I'm really only in it for the story at this point. I've played this game repeatedly for years, so I'm just in it for the translation.

I can sorta see why the reviewer said some of the things he did, but I still think he went overboard.

FF4 was classic but number 1 is the best
Check out the new FF1-2 on GBA

Ive got 1/2, 1 was fun, 2 was horrible. I don't care what anyone says I just cannot play a game where you have to hit yourself to perposely level up, story be damned. I'll just read the storyline online somewhere.

I remember playing 4 on psx and getting stuck level grinding in some cave where theres lots of bats that you have to kill. If this version is easier maybe I'll finally beable to add 4 to my finished rpg list.

what character gets the berserk ability?

I do not remember that ability in the game.

Berserk is a regular spell in FF4. A few characters have it.

It's a White Magic spell that Rosa and FuSoYa both learn. I assume that Porom will probably learn it too if you get her back into your party and level her more.

It's completely broken in FFIV because it lets your attacker subvert the command order and auto-attack every time his gauge hits 100% - some characters, like Cecil, Edge, Yang, and in some fights Kain, don't do anything besides melee anyway, so popping Berserk on all your melee means you can focus your mages on fulltime healing, their turns will always come up when they're ready instead of being delayed by selecting Melee commands, and your Melee will attack at their fastest possible rate WITH a damage bonus.

Completely broken.

WOOO Final Fantasy =3

Erm anyways in FF2 waddya mean hit yourself to lvl up?
And also is FF3 out aswell?

This game is wayyyyyyyyyyyy to easy lol .. man.. I beat that MIst dragon the same way he did lol. Plus a lot of the fiends as well. Made my Palom learn all the agas and quake lol killed Cagnazzo in two shots.

Leveled up to 40 easily right after I got Cecil as PLD.. lmao at the same spot. Was trying to get a Lilith Rod.. piece of crap .. I just gave up lol. Every new pt member that joined was 40+ then on lol... and 1 hr later I'm on the moon lol maybe 2 lol.

Lags a lot too when you have a fulll pt .. one time I casted Cure on myself and it didn't go through... wth lol maybe I was going to fast.. even then I can't scroll fast .. like I used to ..because they changed that.

OH well still a good game just 1000x easier than the snes version lol would've been better on the DS. With a multiplayer battle function OH yeah lol

I like my FFVI for ps1 >_>

In FF2 you didnt get lvls. Instead you're stats increased the more they were "used." Hp would increase when you took dmg, attk increase when you attack, mp when you use mp, and so on.
