Final Fantasy IV Advance Review

Being a port and to a system whose target market is..who? If you make it insanely hard, the people just getting into the RPGs are going to be very turned off.

I mean, it should be a challenge somewhat, but why make it incredibly hard. What are you gunning for when you play an RPG? The story or the fact you have to sit outside the town for 3 days levelling to advance. I have FFXI for that.....

I think they made this easier because it's on a portable system that the gamer is only gonna be picking up for an hour or so a day. If you needed to level your party before everything than youd get tired of it fast.

FFIV is one of the few RPGs where "hard" isn't a synonym for "time consuming". RPG's tend to only be as difficult as you make them. IE: powergamers can decimate bosses via overlevelling, while low level challenges reward strategy with bragging rights. There's usually no difficulty, only level raising. The original FFIV hard type at least had a few instances where overlevelling didn't give much advantage. These instances are often regarded as cheap, but the pat on the back for winning was reward enough for me. The evil wall, the final boss, these required sound strategy over brute strength. FFIV's forced party system often helped prevent powerlevelling as well. Characters came and left seemingly at random, with Yang's suicidal tendancies taking the cake. The party members often returned to you at a set level later. What's the point of all this? FFIV was the only FF I know of thats design was solely about challenge. To remove the challenge from FFIV seems to me like removing the job system from FFTactics. You've lost the core of the game. That said, FFIV has the best story and best characters of any FF to date, and I'm enjoying it on my GBA with that in mind.
