Just purchased this off WiiWare for 800 points.

Some quick impressions for this episodic content game, both positive and negative.

+ I'm enjoying the fact that SE saw fit to do a sequel PROPERLY in terms of narrative. The new characters are a welcome bunch, including the usual Biggs and Wedge lol.
- The difficulty is way too variable. At times you'll be breezing through enemies and other times you'll be getting your ass majorly kicked.
+ I'm extremely happy that they stuck to 16 bit style graphics for The After Years just as Capcom did with Megaman 9's 8 bit Graphics. It makes the game much more charming and it compliments the art style.
- WAY too short! Yeah, it's episodic content, but come on, 2-3 hours for 800 Wii Points, and another 300 for Rydia's tale? Jeez.

That's how Square-Enix gets you.

And I'm not lying or exaggerating.

Seriously, that's how Square-Enix gets you.

Case in point--well, actually two.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, and as part of the 30th Anniversary of Space Invaders, there's Space Invaders Get Even.

Both are WiiWare titles. FFCC:MLAAK was developed by Square-Enix. And while Taito both developed, and holds the original rights to the Space Invaders franchise, SIGE was published by Square-Enix.

FFCC:MLAAK, as you know, is what happens when you cross breed FF: Crystal Chronicles with a Sim City game. Square-Enix had alot of downloadable content for that game.

Some of which was REQUIRED in order to have any other race appear in your city. It's like if you bought FFXI and started making your account, and Square-Enix said "OK, from the start, you can only play as, and interact with Humes. If you want Elvaans, Mithras, Tarutarus and Galkas, you're going to have to spend extra money to buy each of them and have them linked to your account."

And with SIGE, the game is a very simple move-around-the-map-and-destroy-everything realtime strategy game like Starcraft or something. The core game costs $5 and you only get two levels. To get the last 6 levels--and actually be able to FINISH THE REMAINDER OF THE STORYLINE--you have to buy three extra level packs for $5 each.

That's 500 Wii Points for the core game, plus an additional 500 for each of the 3 level packs.

That's $40 on a WiiWare game.

Square-Enix is milking downloadable content fees for all its worth. It's all about money.

Look at the Kingdom Hearts franchise. That game's storyline is so cryptic and ambiguous that it confuses the heck out of me. But people eat it up! Because it's Mickey Mouse and Cloud Strife in the same game.

The full game (FFIVTA) is already in the data. SE is just making you purchase unlock codes.
I bought the main game and the Rydia sidestory. I'm not gonna wait until September to finish it, so firin' up mah modded Wii.

Be happy that it came out at all. One year ago, it was a JP-only cellphone game and few dreamed it would come stateside. Also, I rather like the idea of pacing oneself than playing it for a week straight and beating it completely. This way we have more things to continue to look forward to. Just chill out.

It costs way less than most new games, it'll keep you entertained for months, and it's totally worth the price in terms of entertainment value if you even moderately liked ff4. What's to complain about?

Wasn't talking about the price. Talking about the wait T_T

Because these are short episodes, it'll just leave me disappointed and wanting more, and a month wait is kinda unfair, especially as this is actually a DECENT sequel.

That's how My Life As A King worked as well. And most DLC, sadly, which is why a lot of people are pissed off at the concept. Only a fraction of DLC is actually newly created content, such as most multiplayer mappacks.

*cough*

This game is awesome. I've cleared all of the DLC except for the last chapter, now. Going to hopefully do that tonight. I'm gonna go back and record the important boss fights (Have one uploaded now, hopefully will have a few more)

Don't ask me how I got access, someone mentioned above that it's all in the data.

If you care to be spoiled, here's the first of the video series I'll be uploading:

Spoiler:
Zeromus - the last boss of the Lunarian's tale

I honestly don't mind the wait, especially since I only play it for an hour or so each sitting. With Active and fast battle speeds the fights are fun and, well, fast paced.
I'll be getting Rydia's story soon, I think I'm reaching the end of Ceodore's. The nostalgia factor alone is practically worth it.

challenge dungeons in each chapter should give you a lil more to do and will hold me over till the next releases.
