So I was thinking about this the other day and was wondering if someone has any more info on the matter...

FFMQ for the SNES...To the best of my recollection, it was not a Squaresoft game although it did share the Final Fantasy title. I remember it also centered around four crystals, very similar to FF for the NES.

I remember reading an article in GameInformer a few months back that said it was part of the overall FF series but maybe I am imagining it...

So does anyone else know anything about this game? Honestly, the game sucked but still for continuity purposes I have to figure out the answer. LOL

Its supposed to be part of the Seiken series yep. And I played some of it on rom, got bored. Have yet to finish <,<

Mystic Quest WAS made by Squaresoft, just after Final Fantasy V came out for the Super Famicom in Japan. It was made entirely by the American branch though, and was made simple because thought that we were simple at the time. It was later released as Final Fantasy USA in Japan. It was never meant to be anything other than what it was, a cheap, easy, boring, crappy Final Fantasy for beginners. It was NOT supposed to be a Seiken Densetsu, it was simply a beginner RPG for American gamers.

it was a dumbed down RPG cause they thought americans were too stupid for the RPGs they had >.>

There were no random battles either. I believe you could see the enemies and run away if you didn't want to fight them.

I would consider this the step-brother of the FF series. Just shares the same name, no actual blood relation.

I still own this game all I can remember is the end guy had some incredibly dumb weakness like if you cast cure on it does 999999 damage or it was some spell like cure that you normally wouldnt cast on most monsters. Oh and on the box it says made by squaresoft so I guess thats who its made by.

Yeah, it was made by Square USA back in the day (I still own it too) and it's not really all that great. I would probably think more of the game, if it wasn't called "Final Fantasy" and was just titled Mystic Quest.

Although, the music in several parts of the game was really rockin':

Tristam's Theme, Wind Tower, Lava Cave, Final Battle and the Doom Castle were the best, to my recollection. But, the music is very different from all the other FF titles out there.

Personally, the world map theme is just awesome. If there is one thing Mystic Quest DID have, it's good music.

Funny story, after reading this post, I checked my old SNES collection, and turns out, I own it still ^^. The game is rediculously easy and seriously dumbed down for the "Stupid American capitalist children" lol. I swear, for some reason the Japanese have this view that America is stupid. If we were so stupid, why would they need thousands of bombs to do half the job of our 2?

I would have to say that one of the reasons behind such prejudices is people making insensitive comments, just like that one.

I'm sorry if sarcasm doesn't come over well in text format. And as far as that being insensitive, screw that, they're MORE than insensitive toward us and we usually just turn the other way.

Not saying that the japanese aren't insensitive towards us either. All I said was comments, like the one you made early, just carry on the prejudices. And they keep being said because you feel you're bening treated unfairly, so why not treat the group that might not even be the ones responsible badly... then someone, whom you've implied you aimed your comment at reads it and does the exact same thing to you.

But, lets not start a debate. This isn't the forum for it.

This game was awesome. Though really simple and not very deep, it came to me in a drought of RPGs and the music kicks ASS. Plus the dynamic monster sprites would get 'beat up' as the battle wore on. It was very similar to the Final Fantasy Legend series, (SaGa, yes, we know,) which I was a fan of because it kept me from killing my sister on long car trips, and my sister works at a café and gives me free food, so it's a good thing. Although, I was dismayed that you couldn't install bolts from enemies and become a robot. :(

I remember that old fart who followed you around with exclaimation points popping out of his dunce cap.

Ya know those friends you have that don't play RPGs? The ones that tell you foolish things like "Sunlight IS good for you" and "you should leave the house everyonce in a while" or even "there are better things to do than play video games all the time".

Make em sit down in front of a SNES (or Emulator) and play thru this game. Kinda walk em thru the first lvl, and give em a few tips on the second lvl, if the have questions beyond that, point them in the direction of gamefaqs.com. After they beat it, they will probably go thru it again for the sake of doing it in a timely manner for continuity.

After they get done with that, Turn em loose on FF4 or FF6. After that, introduce them to Zelda:OoT.

By the time all that is done, about a year has gone by and they are playing games 4-5 hours a day.

The point of all this is to eventually work them into the mmorpg crowd.

I garun-fuckin-tee they will hassle you no more about mortal matters such as sunlight and food.

It's almost like the Gateway drug......

I can't turn away from this forum without saying Final Fantasy Mystic Quest is almost the worst Final Fantasy game ever made.
