Hi guys,

A friend loaned me a copy of FFVII for PC, but it's pretty ancient and I'm not sure how to make it work with Windows XP. It seems to have loaded successfully (I didn't bother installing directx 5.0), and I can get it to the New Game/Continue screen with the sword on it.

When I select New Game, it sounds an input noise and goes to a black screen, but there it stays. I've waited a minute or so, but my comp should definitely run it faster (it runs FFXI with the best graphics turned on).

Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

With FF8 i mest around with the configuration in the graphics and audio area and it worked

If you havn't already, if you can look in the past forums Lecan posted a link about this along with a bunch of websites for new cracks that are needed to play the game on certain OS's, XP in particular. If you can't find it, then PM him until you do!

I had no problems getting it to work on my lap top and I even copied the game disks so that I didn't need to run to my buddy every time I wanted to play. Maybe try to re-install the program then go to the FFVII config and set it up that way. Another thing that could cause that game not to work is the Yamaha midi interface. LOL as stupid as that sounds we had to install that on another buddies laptop to get it to work.

The Yamaha MIDI interface is the best MIDI softsynthesizer I've ever used. You can "fool" the computer to run it. Just reset the date to something like 4 years ago and it should run. If not, try looking up one of the last versions that came out and use the freeware. I think its called Yamaha SGX-100 or something like that. It came with my sound card for my VAIO, and it's probably the best sound card I've used for emulated/ported games (I play a lot of emulated roms). Try it out, see if reseting the date will work for you.
