Actually it dwarfs the percentages. If you're making this a global issue rather than centralized on Quetz where you have the most support, the actual number of signees to Account holders ratio is much lower than just using Quetz.
It depends on how they report it, which depends on what the actual number is. If he did make it quetz only, SE would relate the numbers globally. There are about 500,000 accounts across 32 servers. That makes about 15000 accounts per server. If we got 2000 people from quetz to sign it, they could choose any of the following ways to express that:
only 2000/15000 on one server have experienced a problem.
only 2000/500000 have experienced a problem.
only 14% of users on one server have experienced a problem
less than .5% of all users reported a problem.
Looking at those numbers globaly would be much better for them if he kept the focus on the problems of quetz alone. If we got 2000 people from quetz and 1000 people from the other 31 servers... 31000 people isn't a small amount no matter how you look at it. I know there aren't that many people that have actually had the problem, but there are more people that have been affected by it. Like Setzor from Ifrit. FFXI was an activity that he and his wife enjoyed together. Only he lost his account, but his wife is very much so affected by it.
Besides, this is a global problem. To try and treat it as just aquetz problem isn't looking at the big picture.
But thats only one of many issues. This was done purely on emotion, without thought put into it. For example, anyone could take that link and go sign my name on the list. There's no way to prove account verification without a mass account cancellation occuring at the same time.
If you don't think it will make the problem worse, then there is no harm in trying. Unless you're Yoda.
Note that this is me being devil's advocate. I hope that this does help, but don't agree that fault lies solely with SE
Fault goes to the people who hacked and stole the accounts plain and simple. SE is not at fault for any action they have taken.
However, I do feel that they are fault for a lack of action. They are the only people that could actually do anything about it. Everyone here has given SE hundreds, perhaps thousands of dollars. The level of cutomer service they have provided their customers with is about as helpful as a slap in the face. They aren't obligated to do anything about it. But it would seem like the right thing to do from a moral standpoint, and a financial standpoint.
Edit: I'd be a nice little bitchslap to the face of everyone that bought a character if they allowed the name tied to the account to reset the password at any time. They should do that any way since selling accounts is against ToS.
