Finding a Good linkshell or is there one out there?

Kotsu, the reason for my posts is not to say that he can't have fun with the game anymore because of his past. I couldn't care less if an endgame ls takes him in. But he's acting like he's not accountable for his past, an appology not a cop out is what would probably help him at this point. Saying his brother played is a lie, plain and simple. It's been used on this board at least 10 times by different players, and it's gotten old.

Honestly, since the flameboard is gone, and the data is lost to a better cause, I think that anything there should be forgotten. In the intrest of moving forward as a community we shouldn't bring that up, and I'm sorry for having done so, that isn't in good faith. If he truely has changed, he needs to prove it to the community in some way.

BBT has no place in any of my linkshells or parties, but he's prefectly free to join others. It's a matter of personal opinion. And you said that I'm "creating a bad reputation for him" but he had done that for himself, I'm only stating that might be why he can't get a good linkshell to accept him.

If BBT really wants to make things right with the people he's pissed off in the past, an appology would be a start. He's done a lot to many people, and hurt someone who is dear to me, so I don't really think a cop out such as "it was all my brother" works in this case.

As for Kotsu's personal attacks on me, not worth acknowledging here. This isn't a flame, nor is it a flameboard, do not turn it into such.

I have a social ls, I pretty much leave it open to anyone. I ask people I like, and people I dont know if they ask...I let them join. In my opinion is a decent social linkshell, not exactly awesome on the help side but thats because everyone spends about 80% of the time leveling it seems :p

If you wanna join, /tell me. As long as you dont create drama/problems/ect I wont kick you out. Seems fair right?

That is correct. I look to the posts here concerning BBT's character as the truly noteworthy ones. I have never had extensive dealings with BBT in-game other than a Kazham party once upon a time, but I must confess his posts here on qcdn made me hesitant to join. Nonetheless, we had a nice party while it lasted.

Pardon me for asking, but did you ever get a chance to read any of BBT's old posts? They were what made me hesitant to extend him the benefit of the doubt long enough to xp. They generally responded with the same dose of venom regardless of the tone of the post to which they were responding.

If I were you, I'd try to look at the posts concerning his rep and character as warnings, for, while I don't have a single thing against BBT personally and am a firm believer in second(sometimes third, fourth, and fifth) chances, many here have already said it in so many words:

Your rep is the end result of multiple opportunities at redemption.

I sincerely hope that this all works out for the best of all concerned.

Take the game-skill out of this, since you don't know and nor do I. Who cares? If he's having fun, you're having fun, and whomever else is having fun... why does it matter?

Character is based upon judgement. They may have been jokes, etc. However, the slate is wiped clean. Why? Because what reason does he have to lie? His brother was playing under his name... that's nice whether it's true or not. Why? Because how is it in his best interest to lie about that and then REPEAT anything? It's not, so regardless of truth (in which from when we've talked I believe him) it probably won't be an issue. Regardless, you should throw out your gavel and stop crying "Guilty" as you point at him. There's no judge, there's no jury, and there's no point of that shit being here. He's looking for a social linkshell. That's a LS where you have fun just talking to eachother, while playing the game. From what I've seen, there's a number of people whom I would relate to as "The Roman Senate." Upon Caesar turning his back, they're the type to cowardly unsheath their knives to stab him in the back. So because we're over the internet, it's ok to create a bad reputation for someone else? To drive them into the ground? To throw digital-stones at one another? Grow up and go outside. Obviously you need to mature and see what the real world entolls. Obviously, as of now, you won't succeed in it. So just outside and get a taste of it, because a persons ability to be understanding, cooperative, forgiving, mentally strong, and deteremined is what will allow you to succeed in this world. Let him play the game, let him do what he wants, and drop it. If it's not directly affecting you, him being in a linkshell that you're not in, then why do you care? (You is being stated as a "those who are crying" target. Not direct). Because you got bored of your porn and realized now that the 10-second free clips don't love you back? Or is it just mom isn't going to the store to buy you more lotion? Transferring the friction caused from that onto the bored isn't an answer, so take a step back and leave it alone. The fact this is still going on without people saying "Yeah, come join my shell. I'd love to hang out with yah here and there" is ridiculous.
Yeah, you can drop the conspiracy theory crap already. Everyone on qcdn is not "out to get" Bumblebetuna, they remember what he was like and don't want to associate with him. He ruined his reputation himself, and now wants everyone to forget it because he suddenly realized that it's actually important. There was no one thing that made people not like him, there were several things, so he had been given multiple chances and never changed.

As for not "understanding the real world," you're obviously the one with your head in the clouds. If you have a poor credit history, you can't get a loan by going up to a bank and saying "just forgive and forget." If you have a poor employment history(you're an ass or you steal or something), companies are not going to hire you. Your past matters, he burned his bridges and has now found himself trapped.

(Sorry for delay in post back, I'm at work. Sorry for addressing everything at once. Pakomen: Thanks for Avatar props ^.^)
As I said, it was directed more in general to everyone posting antagonistically (sp?), not to one person. As for his past history, he may have burnt bridges, but there's other directions that he can take to get to where he is going. Read back through this and see exactly how many people even know his character in question, his supposed reputation. There's plenty of people who know nothing about it. All I know is the BBT I've talked to on the boards and talked to in game, and he's been a good guy since I've talked to him. I have to see it to believe it, or hear something solid enough to believe. Well, what I've seen is good character. After all:

There are second-chance creditors for that same reason. So that you're able to do what you need to do and through outstanding action during that time, rebuild your credit.

Reputation is something given to you, possibly through misunderstandings or a little thing called text. Not a lot can be translated by text, emotions being one of them. Sarcasm, jokes, etc. It doesn't transfer over the way a voice does.

I dunno how much people know me, or really know me at all. I go out of my way to help people, it's be greatest assett and greatest flaw. Yeah, I can either do something good with this or be burnt in the end. Hell, I think my worldpass thread has been a helluva success. But I'm the type of person to fight for fairness and equallity for others, almost in a fanatical sense. I want BBT a fair chance to prove you guys wrong, and I don't know if that'll ever happen or not. The most I can do is stand by the character, the BBT, that I've seen. From what I've seen, it's someone I'm willing to stand by.

I am not a well liked person throughout the community. I have a few friends, a small linkshell, and I generally stay out of the way of others for fear or repeating past mistakes. Temper and all.

Heck. I’ve made a few stupid flames, especially the one where I attacked Thefonz for not raising me. It was petty, ignorant, and foolish. I apologized and the thread dropped. Why? Because I actually stood up and admitted that Yes, I was childish. Thefonz, I apologize.. We’ve since been in a party together and nothing went badly (he totally rocked as COR by the way, rolled 5’s almost all his exp rolls). People can forgive and forget, especially when both parties realize what they were fighting over was childish (or just childish on one end, namely mine).

What I’m seeing from BBT is idle threats. If I don’t get a LS before I hit 75 I’ll just quit. I don’t think that’s quite the way to attract the kind of positive attention to yourself that you want.

My suggestion to you is this, BBT. Regardless of who was or wasn’t using your account to make those really bad posts in the flameboard, you can still apologize for it. Because of your ‘brothers’ fault, you have earned a black mark within the community. I don’t see you giving anyone any respect, and then asking for things to be handed to you. That isn’t going to happen, sorry to say. Though showing a change in your character by apologizing to the community would start you off in the right direction.

Remember, to be humble to superiors is duty, to equals courtesy, to inferiors nobleness.

I applaud your efforts and convictions, but I'm afraid I must disagree with you on this point.

Reputation is something you come into. For example, if I were to see a thread accusing me of MPK(Bst here, and I know that example is a little dated), and I came on to defend myself, explain the situation, and offer an apology for any trouble I had caused, some day down the road I'm sure that someone would say:

Guy1: "Reauland? Wasn't that the Bst accused of MPK-ing all those people in the Nest?"

And based off my subsequent actions, I could expect some responses along these lines:

Either

Guy2: "Yeah, but it was just a mistake. That guy's never been anything but nice to me."

Or

Guy3: "Yeah, I've had a run-in or two with that guy and he's really an ass"

If my "Guy2" responses outweigh my "Guy1" responses, it's pretty obvious that I'm someone who was either telling the truth in my post about the MPK, or I've been making a real effort to salvage my reputation.

If my "Guy3" responses outnumber my "Guy2," I've come into the bad rep I have earned.

In the end, all I'm really trying to say is that in all my time visitng this forum, I have never seen anything I perceived to be a concerted effort to villify anyone. For the most part, this community has always been more than willing to extend people another chance. Only in cases where someone has wronged others many times over and remained unrepentant about their actions have there been any cases of ostracism, flameboard or no flameboard.

I love you Alyada.. will you have my babies?

Anyways, back to the topic. I'm kinda pissed my last remark was deleted 'cause someone turned into a transvestite and wants to wear a dress all of a sudden but neways. Bumblebeetuna, funny how you forget the people you fucked over in parties but remember all the people who have good remarks. Can't have the good without the bad. One of my favoirte movies, The Good The Bad and The Ugly, everyones character. Everyone has "The Good", I'm sure there have been parties where you rocked and had a good time. "The Bad", I know for a fact there's been parties you've absoultly sucked horribly in. "The Ugly", your whole my brother signed onto my account crap and all the other shit people hate you for. You have to take in all these characteristics to make "who you are" can't just scoop out the good and that be you, which you seem to want to do. I hate this.. apologize to start a new... How many times have your parents asked you to apologize and you did but actually meant it? All it is, is a phony remark to get on peoples good side and "erase the boards". Only problem when erasing is, theres always streak marks left behind. Marks that can't be forgotten and stick to you for your game time. Going and crying to people, I"LL QUIT IF I'M NOT INVITED TO A ENDGAME SHELL BY THE TIME I HIT 75!!!! is just plain childish. You can't force people to do something just so you can be happy, doesn't work that way. IF you really want a endgame shell, prove it. Don't beg, don't whine, don't pout 'cause Santa Clause is watching. And by Santa Clause I mean Endgame shell members and leader and they don't want a prepusant teen in there shell ruining there good times and all they've worked for in a game. So, BBT, IF you really wanna good endgame, social whatever LS, show you deserve it.

Both things require you to spend time to regain trust, to "rebuild" your reputation as it were. You don't just go "ok, forget everything that happened, I'm different now" and it magically happens. He's trying to dodge any reprocussions of his past actions that he's avoided until now because he didn't need other people. Now he does and it's going to take a lot more than saying "forgive and forget" to make people accept that he's actually changed.

Now, I know this is going to sound elitist of me, but your highest job is 43, you haven't done anything yet; you haven't had to form groups for anything important yet. When you do, you'll learn more about wanting people with good reputations. If you can't trust the people you're with then it's very hard to get anything done.

You're saying that we're not giving him a fair chance, but there's something you're not understanding. You haven't seen the 6 months, the last year, even further. He was given a fair chance, and he ruined it, several times. You're coming in when all of a sudden he wants something, so he's playing nice, and no one's buying it because he already ruined his reputation. You can think of yourself as a "champion of the downtrodden" all you like, but not everyone will see it that way; especially when you try to champion people who have created such poor reputations for themselves.

This is actually a really good point. At no point throughout this thread has he expressed any kind of guilt for his past actions. It's like he doesn't even care about how people might have a reason for not liking him, especially with the "get over it and invite me or I'll quit" ultimatum. Where is there even a hint that he's changed from what he was beforehand, he certainly doesn't seem any different.

Again it's the whole "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me" thing. At some point, people just aren't deserving of another chance, mainly when it's become clear that they're just going to abuse it like they did with their other 50 chances. "Three strikes and you're out," whichever analogy you prefer, but either way he hasn't shown that he's really worth another chance to most players.

It does sound elite of you to say that, but I understand the point you're trying to convey. Honestly, I play this game mainly with 10 RL friends and about 20 people I met on FFXI. As of right now, I don't care too much about reputation. If there's evidence of someone pulling some crap (IE: Cinder or Penut, or something along those lines) then I probably won't party with them. Hell, I'll typically party with someone from QCDN before anyone else. But me being lvl 43 still is more a reflection of my time at work (60hrs minimum / week) then my time with the game. I've played on and off since the PS2 launch, mainly because I just got tired of the MPK's and the bad parties, and the inconsiderate nature of others. That's more why I decided this go around, I'd fight for others. Obviously, however, it doesn't payoff for him to act as he supposedly did before. I understand I haven't been here that long, or been back on FFXI that long (November '05 I came back). Like I said before, I'm speaking for the guy that I've spoken with, not the guy you guys say you dealt with. We're seeing two different people, so what can we do? Some can blacklist him, others can talk to him. But let him play the game, don't cut his feet out from under him.

Totally. Can we agree that simply because the majority says one thing about a person, it isn't necessarily a conspired effort to sully their good name?

I know it's not a conspiracy, but at this point he doesn't have much a choice but to be the shining example of a great guy. Y'know what I mean? He's at the "put up or shut up" part, as a basketball reference. But yeah, I can agree that it's not a conspiracy. I just figure, ideally, if everyone came together that this would be better for everyone.

Well after hard day at work i get to sit down and read the ups and downs about bbt. YAY what fun, na,really though lets get to the point!

As I said before, BBT, an attitude like that will not win many people over. It's not much, but mostly people ask for is that people are cordial, humble, and most of all friendly. I can't say that I gather that from your posts, but I could be wrong. Sometimes what we mean and what we say doesn't translate well on the page.

No one can blame you for leaving if you have a call. Your paying job is much more important than a game you play for pleasure. Even I have left important LS events because of emergancies. It happens.

I think why people don't want to associate themselves with you is because of the flames on the flameboard. I haven't read any myself, but that seems to be the general consensus.

Whether or not you're a good player is subjective. I have many friends that don't really know a whole lot about the game, and sometimes get into more trouble than they can handle, but I still hang around with them. I love teaching them, and I love having them around as friends. In PTs, there is a certain amount of respect and skill that most people want a player to have. However, even if you do stink at a job, the fact that you are willing to change and take up suggestions is what makes you an above average person, rather than an above average player. People will respect this. I'm always willing to change up my job at the request of others. It shows flexibility, as well as a humbleness about yourself that people will remember.

Consider this conversation:

<Person1> Omg. Your gear sucks, what a noob.
<You> I'm sorry if my gear isn't really what you'd expect. Do you have any suggestions?
<Person1> Uh.. well, get this & this & that.
<You> Thanks, I'll try my best.

You could say that people remember tha bad other than the good, but I think it can work both ways. Prove to us, the community, that you are a good person and feelings may start to change.

Something overall looked down upon by the general community because it creates higher level newbs, with bad reputations for not learning the job right the first time.

Look i really understand where your coming from on your post i really do....

its the fact that ppl talk about me without knowing who i am follow me on this, you see me post i say some rude shit and you understand that post all good right? Wrong just because i post here nad gotta say what is on my mind don't mean you gotta hate me here and on game...right, Right you can't take the post to the game but you can take the game to the post and thats understandable.........point is ppl looking at me because of my post i'm sorry i can't type for shit but i try and i try to get better,so please don't hate on me cause of my typing............

i have a line of jobs lvled i can change my job when ever really but thats really not the point.....the point is some ppl that have posted on this topic don't ever know be but know of me and go by what other ppl gotta say about me and there like(well if you dont' like him nether do i) really what kind of shit is that come on just because some one don't like me don't mean the how world gotta be hatin on me Right!

its sad really to sit here and see people write about me and tell me to quit and i never played with them at all, Why go off what other people say about a player then find out about the player yourself is it reall that hard to /tell and say (whats up) or (how you doing)Really there is not one person that posted on this topic have anything to say bad about me from there point of view but they can go off what there friends had said about me...

i'm not looking for respect.
i'm not looking for people to up and stop hating me.
i'm lookinf for people to give me and chance to prove that i'm not a bad player like everyone is saying i am......i would like the people that posted here to see how far i come in this game how much i have learned and how much i have changed over the months thats really all i'm asking for......

people telling me i gotta show people that i have changed if that is so how you doing to tell if you dont' even try to talk to me or ask anything of me really you would never know.....i think people are scared to find out that i'm not who i was bad when i come to Qcdn and FFXI, i'm not crying and i'm not asking for forgivenest i'm trying to as for a chance to prove people wrong and that i'm a new player....goodfriends are hard to come by the ones i got are here helping me out others don't know what this topic if they did they would be here as well..........i'm really sorry for the missunderstanding of my post if you don't understand or miss read it i'm sorry......

BBT, you should ask for forgiveness. Admitting that you were wrong and that you were sorry is the first step in any recovery program. If you are sincere about becomming better liked, I'd advise trying to repair a few burned bridges.

And you can't say that people shouldn't take a post into how they feel in the game. If you're dumb enough to make a bad comment in a post, then you're likely to do worse when you're talking randomly and don't have a chance to review what you said before submitting it.

What you mean "Repair a few burned Bridges" how you want me to go about doing that when no one is willing to talk to me in game?

ask who for forgiveness??? it works both ways this is not a one way street......Right?

If noones talking to you in game, whats makes you think you'll get a endgame LS? or any LS for that matter. LS were meant to be for friends to talk and have fun. You throw in one bad seed in there, it can ruin the fun for a lot of people. I'd rather have 10 people happy then 1 person.

Saying you don't want forgivness is just a total bullshit lie. You've been asking for it throughout most of this thread, then all of a sudden, I don't want forgivness. The slight chance you are telling the truth and actually don't want to forgive or forgivness, don't expect people to like you and ask you to join there LS or parties. When on and your either just BSing on the LS or leveling a job, you want it to be as fun as possible. You don't want some iggnorant fuck tard ruining your time and making the game unfavorable to you.

As I've been saying, you want people to trust you enough, you've got to prove you've changed. You can keep saying, how can I prove it if noones talking to me, but small changes here and there wil start you off. Then once some people see the small changes, then make big chances and word will get around. Just look at it like this, FFXI is a zoo and your the main attraction, start dancing and people will shout to everyone to watch the monkey dance. So dance monkey dance.
