These suckers were selling in Bastok for 4k a stack today. XD That's the highest I've ever seen them. What's going on to drive them up so much? Just curious.

4K?!? Oi... well, I guess it's back to farming for me. Wow, thats going to make getting my Smithing up a pain. I dunno what could be driving them up tho... since the patch things have been going crazy...

I'm not complaining right now since I farm tons of them while fighting gobs for exp, but man if I ever want to start crafting stuff that requires fire crystals.....XD

Bastok has guilds that need fire crystals, and with more people crafting now a days, well it is simple suppky and demand then ^^

It not just simple supply/demand.

The primary cause of (real, i.e. adjusted for buying power) long-term inflation is the growth of the money supply. It appears that people have more money than ever before. When this happens faster than the expansion of the economy, the result is too many gil chasing too few goods and materials (services too). Thus each gil's purchasing power is less than before.

There are other causes of price increases, like the way the price of oil going up and down causes fluctuations in the price of gasoline. But effects like these are smaller and temporary, and they cause both upward and downward pressure on prices. The only big and permanent cause of inflation is money growth.

Perhaps the reason why SE increased the taxes is to reduce the overall money supply. Thus, trying to stem this inflationary trend.

*edit* I forgot to mention that as more people quit, the economy is actually shrinking while the money supply rises. These peopple who quit, liquidate their assets and give/sell them to others. With less people, there is a smaller economy. However, their gils are still on the server and perpetuating inflation.

This is a VERY good point. With all the migration to WoW, there's a lot of gil being given away. I myself have recently acquired a set of snipers this way. Good timin too, my Drk is 1.2K from 40!

I would put up a stack of fire crystals for 4k and they would be sold before I could exit out of the AH window... I'm dead serious.

Sold a couple stacks there that I was going to use because at the prices people were paying I could buy another stack (or 3) from another AH and still make a profit after it was all said and done.

I really don't care why their up.. just hope they stay that way :)

Same thing happened with me Fyrus. Put them up and sold 3-4 sec later. never made 12k so fast.

i sold mine for 4k as well, now i know what i shall be farming from now on, its a good thing that its high if you see it in a different point of view,

at mine is, im broke, and need of money i could sell a lot of 12pack fire crystals, but now i when i need 12 pack, i'd had to buy them, but i could just farm them again lol

when i started the game they were 5k a stack '-' while soloing i would only fight things that dropped fire crystals :p hehe, good times... let me buy HQ gear for each lvl until about 20 hehe.

Now that they are at a high sale price at the ah, everyone will over farm them, bringing the price right back down. I think it is best that when an item is selling really well, keep it to yourself. Sure half the gaming population already realizes it is a money maker, but the other half just might not.

I could be way off on that, but the litte time I have played the game I already see how the economy works, and how over farming will kill a money making item very quickly.

Crystals are a differnt case, because of crafters, and it's not like Synth materials, because no matter what level said crafter is, they will need crystals. Bastok happens to house the GoldSmithing guild, the Smithing guild and Alchemy, all of which use plenty of fire crystals....I doubt the price will drop below 3k a stack anytime soon.

I not only stand corrected, but that is very good news. I'm low lvl and since gobs and orcs not only drop crystals and gil, but also beastmade gear for rank and conguest points I find myself with a surplus of fire crystals.

As a matter of fact I have six stacks right now.

I'm newB rich!!!
