Miriya is a dumb shit, period.

I was farming materials and casual gil off yags (one at a time) in Giddeus...She comes through with a train.
I know people are know to do this, however...
She's running like a little girl away from them.

I assume the worst and give chase. I voke one off here and kill it. She quickly uses what looks to be a waterga spell, or something AOE.
When she finishes she just looks at me and sends me a /tell immediately calling me names.
I told her I thought maybe you were in trouble.
To which she replies, "Bullshit."

I had tried to start off nicely, but just ended up saying that I have to make a living too and told her where to shove it...Followed by /blist add stupid whiney cunt. <--That would be you, Miriya.

Next time I'll be sure to deliberately steal as many of your kills as I can.

I had the exact same thing occur today in Palborough mines with a fellow named Jinzo.

I thought he was in trouble because he was surrounded by 15+ Quadav, and then I get cussed out for trying to aid.

Sad sad state of affairs.

I think when people pull trains like that they should let people know that they're not in trouble, because most of us here would be the type of people to help someone in trouble. Then we're the ones who end up the bad guys  :x

As a BLM, I do train mobs so when someone looks at me confused and proceeds to help, I let them do. After 2 or 3 -ga, I thank them but tell them I was doing it on purpose.

It's not a big deal if you loose one mobs in your train

I don't think it should be a big deal at all! Not all of us have ga spells to use and have to kill everything one by one. It's really a pain in the ass when a blm is running around taking every single yag in the area and I really don't feel too bad stealing just one....I mean...He has ALL of them

This is exactly my point.
And I caught hell for it without saying a word.
When I tried to defend myself saying that I was just trying to help, I caught more hell.
So I don't feel bad about telling this person off and addig them to /blist.
No one needs that crap.
I just with that people would assume the worst and act on it like that. I was not being conniving, but rater helpful.
I think once she saw me take one mob, she figured she better use her "ga" spell right then and there lest she suffer more losses.

I just make it habit to help first and then attempt to see if the person has it under control. If I wait and check them out first, then if they really are in trouble, they will likely die before I can do much to help.

I think you guys are right to let people know what you are up to if you are train hunting. And if someone comes along with a good heart, you definitely should bash them for it.

I am personally against train hunting because it takes away all the mobs in an area. It clear cuts everything. This leaves people like myself and numerous others who were hunting MOBs one by one nothing to farm or level off. By train, I don't mean 2-3 even...I'm talking 10 or more. That's just greedy.

I get so scared helping people sometimes....I thought this little taru guy was being chaced by a rabbit in east saru so I killed it. He's like "Hey!! That was my pet!" I felt so bad and apologized over and over to him explaining that I thought it was trying to kill him. He laughed it off and told me it was okay but I still was so embarassed

I'm really glad they implimented the characters name under the beast that's being controlled so it's not as hard to mistake an aggresive mob for a pet.

But trains do piss me off...Do it when nobody's there, but if there are others obviously trying to kill the same mobs your training only kill a few and don't take them all. Also don't get pissy at them because they "Stole one" I mean come on...you've got another 15 following you! Just because you can kill everything in the area doesn't mean you should!

my 1st /blist was well i forgot the name but it was this lvl 53 drk that i asked for help getting a rse key in gusgen mines it wasnt my day though all i was doing was gathering keys in the dungeons i already had a maze/ordelles key so all i had 2 do was look for a chest and shes like no your just trying to loot the the chest and saying its the female humes time for rse not male elvaan (ironically it was a female hume saying this) so i just said f this your /blisted and someone else helped me out ^^

SORRY MY MISTAKE! ^^

Sneak, -_-, im sorry you ran into this fool. The following is somthing i posted on allakhazam. (had to dig for it, god damn the pay for search, Damn it to hell~!)
It was in response to a thread on the seeming lack of intelligent behavior among those that take up and constantly wear the "Mentor" thing.
I did'nt post a name there, but I bet you'll Never Guess who it was.

now for the mentor thing, sadly from what i have seen, people that arent exactly moral or ethical types, people that already "know it all" jumped all over the option. very few people i know that Deserve to be mentors have even thought about becoming one.
let me relate a "mentor" story:
i was leveling my paladin in geshelba outpost for some goof off time from my main.(67 rng) i was level 9 at the time and soloing the orcs near warchef vagit easily. (i <3 orc slaughter) it was a tad crowded up there for the number of mobs that pop, but everyone was being polite, doing their own thing, and tossing cures to each other when needed.
then a "mentor" up with someone else in tow who was, from gear obviously somewhere in the 20's. this mentor then proceeds to round up about 4 of the already in short supply orcs that people were xping on and starts to "show off" for her companion.
i went over and cast dia on one of the mobs and began to lay into it for that nice early lv 100+ solo xp.
this is when things got ugly. o.O
the "mentor" started /tell spamming and /say spamming at me what a "N00b" (yes, thats a quote) i was and how dare i "steal her mob" etc etc....5 min later.
i tried to reply to her tells at first, my only argument was that i was xping on those mobs and why was she so upset?
more --> "stealing how dare you etc..." from the mentor.
then they left and i didnt see where as i was resting my mp. not 2 minutes later as im fighting the grunt that lives in that tent there this "mentor" reappears with the warchief in tow and she releases him
near me, and near 3 other people doing nothing more than xping nearby. she /shout (ed) "you dont want to Steal from me!"
the other xpers didnt know better and thought that the "mentor" was in trouble so they attack the chief, i of course know better pop invinci heal the xpers on chief till im out of mp and zone to the fort.
the xpers die, shes gloating nearby, and when i yelled at her in /tell for not only the act, but for getting the other innocent xpers killed she simply replied "they attacked him, its their fault theyre dead" this "mentor" hit my /blist about 2 seconds later.

im not trying to say that this is the state of the mentor thing, but oh-man, wtf?
i can only hope that the person being "mentored" is, basically, more of an intelligent human being and realizes that that whole scene was wrong on fundemintal levels. it may only be a game, but actions still speak louder than words, even in this virtual world.
~Syn

Syn, are you saying this is the same person as I encountered?

Either way it wouldn't surprise me...The mentor status doesn't surprise me either.
You don't need a mentor flag up to show newbs the way to do things better or tell them where to go to get something done. Hell you can even be polite about it. Mentor status has nothing to do with being helpful as far as I have seen. Most of the people that have it, and wear it, get it for the status...To show off and use it as an excuse for their know it all attitudes.

If these train-farmers get snippy; here is what it boils down to:

Even if you pull 100 mobs, only 1 of them will be claimed by the game's programming at a time. The rest are fair game for passerby, as it is not only unfair to other farms that you psudo-claim them all, but it is also not supported by the games code.

If you are a train farmer and someone decides to kill some of 'your' mobs, whatever the reason may be... deal with it. You arnt in the right here.

Well put, Keits. ^^

It's not part of the coding to be able to claim 100 MOBs at a time, so it was never intended to be that way.
It's no surprise that people that exploit the game this way, also have nasty little attitudes.

Well I'll have to counter this arguement but, I think there is another thread somewhere that had this kill-stealing debate on it. Anywho:

If I'm Palborough Mines, I'm only there for one thing; to farm. How do I farm there? I go to the room where Zi'Ghi Boneater spawns, and cast either poison/poisonga/aspir/drain on one of the quads in the room next to me- through the barred opening causing the quad to run the long way around to get me while training more quads as it makes its way to me.

Granted, this process is slow, as at most i may only have more or less than 20 quads end up at me. I fight them.. get the 10-40 gold they may drop along with the different fetich gear and other drops. I continue this untill my inv is full, and hopefully by that time I've killed Zi'Ghi once or twice in hopes of Braveheart.

People usually see the train of quads and think im in trouble. The smart ones ask if I need help, I tell them "No thanks. Im alright, im just farming." Then they tend to continue to run on by. The dumb ones, start freaking attacking the train when im obviously not in need of their help, as my hp never gets below yellow and doesnt even stay in yellow that long due to drain/aspir combo. I usually dont even go anon.. so people can check me and see im pratically lvl 40 (if they cant tell im a higher lvl from my gear).

I know the whole if its red its mine issue and I support that, just not when im training things.. [rant]if its something im running to to fight and someone else gets it.. ive got no problem with that, they beat me to it. But if im training quads, as in.. they ARE all fighting with me. I made them come to me, I casted the spell. Oh.. i also piosonga'd them when they all reached me.. but now some jackass sees im not having any problems at all and decides to steal some of my train that I was waiting for to fight.. delaying my farming time.. now I have to wait the respawn time to train some again.[/rant] When im farming its for a reason, there is something im trying to save up for and buy. I'm not there training quadavs to be a jackass.. im "working" so to speak. When im done farming I leave till the next time I need to come back.

I also offer to help lower lvl players while im in the area, if they need to get to the room I start my trains in and Zi'Ghi isnt going to be around anytime soon. I'll clear a path for them so they can reach that tool box an finish whatever quest that is. There are also countless people doing the Dark Knight quest.. they always ask where the Zied fellow is.. i point them to the boat which is right next to the room I fight in. I certainly dont need to steal someone elses train if they are training quads or had some links and are in the same room. The only time im gonna help them is if i see they really are getting spanked, or they ask me to help them.

Screw it...

I'm just gonna steal off trains as I see fit from now on.

People that train kill are hogging. If I am there to farm and the only thing I see is part of your train, well then, I'm farming off your train.

As it was mentioned, if SE had intended people to do this, they would have made it so you had all mobs in the train red and claimed.

I feel its not a matter of "Oh well if it was suppose to be that way then the game would allow it", its more of a common sense/respect (even though I guess that concept is somehow foolish to think of. Why??? "Duh cuz it A gamez U loser GIT A LIFE AHAHAHAHHZZZ11!!!11" is what most people without a clue would say).

Sure.. they arent red.. but know what, they arent fighting you either. They're ingaged in a fight with me and unless I need help (which I dont in Palborough) you shouldn't steal them. I don't compete with others around me there, if im busy fighting a train and a quad spawns, someone takes that one, good for them, it wasnt fighting me yet anyway. Only competition is with the NM and thats like that with all NM's. That's how I feel on the subject, and I think ive expressed my view well enough.

But those mobs arnt yours. Just because you ran by with the attention of one, and managed to link them all doesnt claim them for you.

If you take notice of the way the game handles claims, you will notice a flaw in your view.

When a monster is engaged in combat with you, it is not claimed as yours.

When you are engaged in combat with a monster, then it is claimed as yours.

The game's code keeps train farmers from ruining an entire zone for other potential farmers. If they choose to ignore that you chose to be a dreadfully inefficient farmer and start killing your mobs, you have no case. Even if you did have a case as to why every mob that looks at you is yours, you are still farming in a terribly inefficient manor.

Contest that all you want, but I can kill 15 quadav with my bow before you can kill 5 with your AE Weaponskills and Spells. If claiming worked the other way, not only would you be hogging mobs from other players who have done nothing wrong, but you would also have a better case here against those of us that find upset-train-farmers to be in the wrong.

What this boils down to is ettiquette (sp?). Is it disrespectful for a player to kill mobs off your train? Well, to even answer this question, you have to ask another:

Isnt it disrespectful to other farmers for you to hog an entire area in that way?

Yes. Yes it is.

I highly, highly dislike mob training like that. In the two mmorpg's i've played prior to ffxi, mobbing like that was against the rules. I honestly think that it shouldn't be that bad if people aren't around and you're the only one doing anything there, but when you're in a place where people are trying to level (we were in konschtat the other night and someone was running around with all the sheep) it's very disturbing.

Plus, a lot of people just do it while they're waiting for their NM to spawn out of boredom/showing off :(

O.o.. Okay I said i take 20 quads more or less.. if you've ever been to palborough.. well, you know there are a crap load more in the area.. I only take a few from one section. I'm in no way hogging the entire area up, or inconviencing others because there are several more in different spots.

Anyways thats my view, and for now thats how I farm as it works pretty well for me. Granted, I KNOW it is slow, but it works well enough for me. It is quite effective for me right now.. as not many of the items i need cost hundreds of thousands of gil. I come back to Bastok and sell the stuff I collect along with the gil i made for about 7-10k a trip. And after a few trips I have all I need for now.

I know there are plenty of other ways to farm. I choose to do this, as I've tried camping other NM's and such and well that is just chaotic and I highly dont enjoy that experience.

I do on the other hand, enjoy the sound of quadavs thudding on the ground after I kill them, and its fun to be surrounded by 15-20+ at one time.
