First day back in dunes as ninja

Sorry about this guys but, I need to vent.

First day back at dunes, just got my ninja gear, 8 stacks of shihei, travellers mantle and the like.

Turn up, ask someone for a party, accept, and two other invites come, but I tell I've already got one, they say, ok, cool.

Get to this party, PLer, SMN/RDM, RDM/--- something equally stupid anyway, I ignore it, thinking it can't be that bad.

I tell them immediatly this is my first party, and I'm trying to learn.

I assume people are supposed to voke off the ninja as soon as shadows go down, the party leader had the RNG/WAR backup, and in no way will I blame her but the vokes were slow (obviously trying to keep shooting the monster) and the PL is stealing hate ever other provoke.

This goes on for 5 or 6 monsters, I say someone else needs to backup voke, noone says a word.

And so, I leave.

To vent here.

So much better.

Ordinarily, I'd say let the PL'er have the hate. But like you said, you were trying to learn. I wouldn't sweat it man. Anybody who has a Powerleveler isn't really going to be that "into" Xp'ing. You got no response because they probably set thier keyboard down so they could use their freehand to wipe the drool from thier mouths from time to time.

God, I wish there was a way to revive Buburimu again. Stupid Noobdunes.
 
Update, just tried a party from one of the guys that sent an invite, no warrior, just the leader, mnk/war, he agreed to back up voke.

I have a macro that calls 3 times, 3, and I made sure everyone of them has the sound, not once did he voke, I left after two fights.

Ninja's have a few friend in the dunes. The first is the VT mob. Easier to keep shadows up, and this goes double if you have good gear and all your melee skills capped. *Parry helps.*

The second is the Red mage who knows how to enfeeble.

The third is the trigger-happy black mage who will yank hate about the time your shadows go down. :twisted:

If you're fighting VT mobs with a competent Red Mage it isn't actually THAT hard to keep shadows up before Utsu: Ni on crabs/pugils/non-mandy mobs.

Just remember to keep shadows up before the pull, recast in anticipation to losing shadows, and practice counting and figuring your odds for evasion.

I was learning in the dunes, but I managed to pull and tank Pugils around 23-25 in Quifim. I actually ended up slacking off to save shihie and not bore the whm... :P

Ps- Try to keep your ninjutsu skilled up for when you get to quifim kurayami is not only a great way to pull, but saves you shadows and produces good hate.
 
I'm fine with utsu and such, I just need a competent backup tank!
 
they don't need to voke.. lol last time in dunes the taru nin never had hate on him :lol: .I tanked as thief alot more.But yeh a war partner is good around those levels if u can take the hate back
 
The best way that i can see to do ninja is to basically static duo with another ninja... the 2 ninjas do the hate bouncing and blinking, get a smn main heal because they can deal some more damage than a whm... stack the party up with normal party stuff (3 blms or rngs) and let yourself loose on the world....
 
In the case you can't get another ninja, a samurai with Third Eye always works as the backup tank. ^.^v
 
What level, Lok? I'm almost ready to level up my 16 ninja through the dunes. I got from 12-16 on a dual-nin setup and it works wonders if both pay attention. I have my traveler's mantle and full bone+1 ready to go.
 
When i took my warrior through dunes I tried to voke off the nins when his 'casting utsusemi' macro would ring. Its not that hard. However my problem was when i voked it off he never voked it back! This happened in about 3 parties before i said screw it. *I'm* not the tank.

The ninja and the backup need to work together or its chaos usually.

wow, trigger happy blm is the best friend of everyone! Thank god BLMS have WICKED agi... and taru are second racially for agility next to mithra... >.> if i didn't have good agi and capped evasion (i cap it every time i get a new better spell) i'd die more than i do!

Nothing will ever get people back into regularly levelling in Bubu......even if you paid them.

That's a good thing though. Then when you can convince one party to go there, you get all the mobs to yourself. =D

Did I miss something? Is there something bad about leveling there? I have some of my most fond memories in the game from my time spent there back in the day.

Man, I can't believe how things have changed. I remember levelling off the crawlers in the Maze from 17-19 (yes, you heard that right :shock: ) because the Dhalmel in Bubu were overcamped. I miss those days.

Main reason I've put off levelling some of my lowbie jobs, even though I'd like to give them a test run, is because I DETEST the dunes. But good luck trying to get a pickup mage with cure power to go anywhere else. :evil:
 
As soon as I hit 16 with ninja, I'll be leaving till my thief is 33 or higher(mmmm SATAVB *drool*)
 
Dont put it off man...give yourself some breathing room. Sucks to gain a level and then "Oh gotta level my SJ"...

Anyways, Ninja sucks for the early portion of the game. You cant do a damn thing better than anyone else. You get dual-wield first which kicks ass, and Utsu at 12 which helps not at all lol. I liked how you said you got 8 stacks of Shihei... lol. Bet you were shocked when you go through like 1 stack a party. It still gets crazy ass invites though. Just load up on defense and dont even try to blink tank. You dont have enough evasion, not NEAR enough at that point. You can tank as ANY job in the dunes. Serious, if a Blm came prepared to tank, I bet he could. Ok well any MELEE job can tank...Ranger included. Just load up that defense and dont bother worrying about backups..
