First look at Joker from The Dark Knight

I actually hate the look. I'm sure many, many, many of you will disagree with me, but Jack Nicholson pulled off a great Joker. If Heath Ledger can do it with the same pizazz as Jackie Boy and Mark Hamil's voice in Batman TAS, I'd be surprised and very impressed.

Am I the only one who liked Micheal Keaton/Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns?

I agree with you on both points. Michael Keaton was awesome.

I thought Keaton made an awesome Batman, but a poor Bruce Wayne - too quirky, geeky, Clark-Kentish for my tastes. To me, that's always been the real challenge of the role - being able to simultaneously pull off both personas.

That's also the main reason I was so blown away by Christian Bales' performance. No one before him seemed to have grasped that whole "Bruce is the mask that the Batman wears" thing. That along with absolutely no traces of camp (well . . . there was that scene with Gordon in the Batmobile . . .) in Batman Begins instantly made it my favorite.

I think the picture of Ledger as the Joker is suitably menacing, and quite frankly, I'll be happy as long as they don't kill him off.

Michael Keaton was not meant to be Batman/Bruce Wayne. Sorry

The best performers for that role are (in order of greatness):

Christian Bale
lolAdam West
Michael keaton
Val Kilmer (edited in respect of Onu)
George Clooney

All they need to do for Poison Ivy, should they ever make a Begins continuity movie using her, is go back in time and get 1997 Uma Thurman. Quite possibly the only good role played in Batman & Robin.

They can leave Arnold back there though. Infact, take 2007 Arnold and leave him there as well.

Oh! my God no! Micheal Keaton was way better than Mad Martigan by a long shot. I agree with you on Christian Bale though.

I'm not sure if I like it.

I love Nolan's batman and thought he did an absolutely incredible job with the whole Bruce Wayne thing but it's almost like he's embarrassed to show batman on screen. Most of the shots you saw of him were quick or shakey - I do hope he does more with the Bat in this film.

As for the Joker, I hope they don't turn him into some kind of music video psycho - I hope he's genuinely scary like he should be. The thing about joker is he's unpredictable. Best comic I saw with him was when he walked up to this newspaper stand and grabbed a paper and walked away. The guy who ran the stand stood up and yelled at him for not paying - Joker turned around and they showed the fear in the owner's face. Then joker flipped him some coins and walked away laughing. Joker is chaos and that's what makes him the #1 villain, Batman's all about control and Joker is the Yang to batman's Ying

I edited the list. I liked Val because he looked the part playing Bruce Wayne and that's something not all actors can do. Anyone can be a great Batman (even me if I put on that Bat-Suit and talk with a low voice). But I would suck so much playing Bruce Wayne...

Sabia is correct with the Joker description. That's why I like what they are doing with Dark Knight's Joker, because it looks very close to the Joker in The Killing Joke which in turn was the most faithful/closest rendition to the character since Bob Kane's Joker.

That's what I'm hoping we get, so far that's still the best rendition of Joker I've read. He was not only insane, but so cruel to Barbara and Jim Gordon for what he put them through. It wasn't some crazy over the top scheme, just a gun, some sadistic photos, and a broken down amusement park. I was surprised Jim Gordon didn't want him dead after all that was done.

I'm just hoping the Joker we get this next film doesn't have any insane wacky schemes, I just want a psycho who takes pleasure in killing innocent people for giggles.

The only good thing about that movie was the soundtrack.

Not only have i found just about everything Uma Thurman's been in (save pulp fiction) ruined by her lack of acting prowess, just the mention of Batman & Robin makes me nauseus.

Don't remind of of Batman and Robin :( but yea i have to agree w/ u all on the joker part. I want sick and twisted Joker who has his fun with killing ppl.

Hopefully this movie does well we will have to wait and see i mean when i heard they where remaking a batman moive i was like great here they go again but i went and saw it w/ my friend and i was kind of impress. So hopueflly they don't screw anything up who knows but i'm looking forward to it. So its hard to tell if its a thumbs up or a thumbs down on the joker part cause we have seen awsome jokers in the past so will they live up to them who knows

He looks fucking awesome and I think Brokeback Ledger can definitely pull it off. Like Onu said, I'd like to see a purple suit but purple might be a bit too flashy for such a dark toned film like this new Batman series. However, I'm sure they'll pay homage to it because it's a Joker trademark. Green hair is a must though, hopefully a very dark green.

Purple could work. Like a velvet purple, or some other dark shade. Similiar to the one Jack wore in the Burton one.

I'm really curious to see how he pulls the character off, especially the voice. I'm not too familiar with Heath Ledger, only movies I've seen him in were Knights Tale, The Patriot and *gag* The Brothers Grimm *gag*.

Maybe he will gain the respect/admiration of many fans with his role in DK.

ps. He is in Brokeback Mountain too.

I saw a far away shot of the Joker on Aint It Cool News yesterday. He definately has green hair! ;D

You know? It's funny that you mention that. I noticed it too, but I had an entirely different take on it. I thought he was trying to put the audience in the bad guys' shoes, and show us the Bat as his opponents would see him - scary, indistinct, and overall leaving you with the impression that that whirlwind that just slung you through the plate glass window was something more (or less) than human. If that was Nolan's intention, he pulled it off famously. That scene in the warehouse was one of the finest horror moments to grace the screen in a decade.

Love your take on the Joker, by the way - Chaos vs. the Bat's Order. That's spot-on! ^^

Bumping to show a shot of the new Batsuit, sorry for using ImageShack just incase this goes away...

Gotta love the new outfit, bats can now move his neck. I hope they add something to cover the rest because he will look like robo-batman if they don't.
