I started trying to lvl my fishing skill up last night. So far I've fished for probably 11-12 hours within the city of Windurst and my skill is only at lvl 3 so far. Is this slow rate of skill gain normal in the early levels? I have been using fishing support from the guild, wearing full fishing enhancment gear, Mithran rod, Sibiki Rig, and a combination of small worms (most guides recommend small worms up to lvl 6) and bug paste.

I have yet to complete a stack of Moat Carp, I've probably caught 8-9 stacks of Bastone something, only 3 individual crayfish, and a bunch of rusty items.

Primary Question: Is the slow rate of skill gain normal?
Secondary Question: Are there any suggestions you could give?

My eyes hurt so I'm taking a break.

Thanks in advance.

fishing lvls sllloooooooooooowwwwwwww. be paitent.

Question: Where are you using which bait?

If you're in Windurst, and using the bait you've said, it should go like this:

Little Worm: Anywhere BUT Port Windurst. You should catch Crayfish and Moat Carp.

Insect Paste: Anywhere BUT Port Windurst. You should catch Moat Carp.

Sabiki Rig: Port Windurst. You should catch Bastore Sardine and Quus.

And yes... Fishing levels horrendously slow compared to other tradeskills.

Are you getting a bunch of "The fish was too small to catch with this rod" messages? If so, I would switch to carbon or glass fiber. When I had a mithran rod I got the above message so much I almost broke my computer. Anyways, good luck.

The fish too small message is actually pretty rare.

I have been using the appropriate bait for the right areas. =D

Right now I'm just hanging in the Port beacuse you can supposedly lvl to 19 there and I'm using my Sabiki rig. I've reached lvl 4 now. =/ I guess I'll just grind it out.

I heard a rumor that in an effort to discourage botting that you need to zone every ingame 24 hour period. Have your experiences led you to believe this?

Just like real fishing, beer goes really well with it. Thanks a lot.

I use composit rod and sabiki rig. I have not fished for 12 hours and I'm at about level 7. I don't wear the fishing gear though as I have not yet bought it.
Fishing is slow though.
Is it true you can level to 19 on the Port Windurst docks?

What kind of fish can be caught in Buburimu and what gear should I bring with me?

I'm up to lvl 7 now. Seeing the "Fishing skill raises 0.1" puts a huge smile on my face. I guess that is the one plus from such a slow lvling skill.

My guide has Bubu (beach) as being a fishing lvl 40-53. It recommends a Mithran Rod/Rogue Rig combo. Your looking for Shall Shells w/ a possibility of catching a Bluetail.

I'm sure that there is more to catch out there but at a fishing lvl of 7 I don't know if it is something that is effective.

Once you hit about 10, head to East Ronfaure and get Cheval Salmon and Shining Trout with a Fly Lure. Mithran should be ok there, but you may want to switch to Composite, as you *can* snap the rod on Arrowwood Logs. Not common, but it does happen.

Yeah, you can catch sardines (cap at 10) and quus (cap at 19) there, and it's safe to use a Mithran rod. I just have a composite and a carbon that I switch between depending on where I'm fishing.

As to the zoning every game day, some people believe it, some don't--I tend to zone just so I don't go crazy from standing in the same spot for hours on end, and I figure it can't hurt.
