I'm just starting fishing... First and only point:

Should I work for Lu shang's rod, or sell the moat's to the AH?
Please guide me.

Depends on if you want to make a career of it or not.

0-11 you can basically level off of moats and related carp in any city. If you want to make Fishing a future income source, turn them in. You should be able to cover the cost of bait with the tricolored and golds you reel in. If you just want a quick gil spike, AH 'em. It's less carp you have to deal with later.

Haven't fished in ages so I can't be of much help. I do want to get back into it again and try out the new system. Since the skillups are supposed to happen twice as fast now it's piqued my interest again.

i found they are still pretty slow even with the new system. I could be doing something horribly wrong though.

I'd trade them in, especially is you have 29 or higher cooking.

Well, they said the skill up rate would double. So now you get 0,1 for 2 hours of fishing instead of 0,1 very 4 hours...

Ok, maybe a little exagerated, but you get what I mean, still pretty slow.

Keep in mind it is still a considered a craft. In regular crafts, you have faster skillups (at early-mid levels anyway) but other limitations, like the money to buy material and the ability of it. It slows down the leveling so not everyone is 100 within a couple of months.

In fishing, there is no limitation of material and the investment is substantially less (I am only 18, it might be more expensive as you level, but I have no idea). If you were to get skillups every time you cast your line, everyone would be 100 in 2 weeks. So to slow it down, skillups are much rarer then regular crafts.

It gets annoying not to see that yellow line for 30-45 minutes, but keep in mind you are still making some money, even a few, while you wait for it, unlike other crafts.

I love the new fishing system. I'd quit fishing months ago, after scraping my way to 28 fishing, because I got tired of spending hours fishing to never even hook anything, much less get a skillup. But when I grew a bunch of corn in my mog house about a week or so ago, I decided to turn it into insect paste and give the new sysyetm a shot, figuring at the worst I could sell the paste and make a good profit.

OMG. The fish were just flying in. An hour in Rabao could net me almost 5 stacks of carp. My interest piqued, I decided to try skillup fishing. Again, fish were just flying in, and though skillups weren't as fast as with crafting, it was still frequent enough to make me really excited. The past week, I've gone from 28 to 33 fishing, and hope to hit 34 today.

I now plan on taking Fishing as high as I can, maybe even to 100 someday (if I don't get sick of the game before then, heh). I'm saving up towards my Lu Shangs now, and drooling at the prospect of being able to fish my own supplies for sushi.

The only thing I don't like about getting Lu Shang's is that in order to fix it if it breaks, you have to either A. go to Rabao, or B. have Woodworking at ~80. A is bad because Rabao is usually very far out of the way. B is bad because if you have Woodworking at 80, you can't bring any other crafts to 100. And since most of the places you use it have fish that can break it... it's not such a good idea, I think.

Really wish SE would make the synth to fix it cap at 60 instead. Sure, it's a little easier to get to, but you can fix it -and- skill up Cooking (or some other craft) to 100 and not have to go to some really distant town to fix it (because it seems like it breaks kind of often).

I hook stuff all the time now, stuff I never even got before. But after 48 worms I've not gotten a single .1...and I only have 1 fishing to begin with..
