Hello everyone, recently I've been establishing guidelines for the Flameboard. While this section of QCDN is supposed to be an area where "Anarchy" reigns supreme, I don't want it to become filled with mindless spam and useless nonsense. Starting today, there are some simple guidelines I want users to follow here. I'm not trying to become a uptight admin, I like the current way the Flameboard is, but there are some things that feel should be addressed so users know what can and can't be done here.
Edit function - Still not going to function here, what said is said. Only I can edit topics and posts, and will only do so in extreme situations.
Thread Necromancy - While I'm not a fan of it, it will not be locked IF IT IS RELEVANT TO THE TOPIC. Don't post in a topic that is months old just to say "Hello". If you want to bring something new to the topic, then by all means, go ahead, but make sure it's for a reason, users can see the dates of the posts, and it'll simply make you look like a fool for necroing something for no reason or to get a post count +1.
Sockpuppets/Fake Usernames - Starting today, Sockpuppets/Fake Usernames will not be tolerated in the Flameboard. There have been some that have slipped by in the past, but no longer. If you make a sockpuppet, then I will simply post all the usernames that IP has and let everyone know who the actual user is. If its a new username that cannot be made ingame, then the user will be contacted via PM to either put their ingame name in their signature, or their topic will be locked.
Language/Racial Remarks - This is the flameboard, so language honestly is not an issue here. You can curse all you want, no need anymore for the [M] topic, I think its pretty much expected that cursing will go on here, and I have no problem with it. Racial remarks are a little different though. If users wish to use them, then while I may let them slide, I hope its for a good enough reason, and not doing it to be a racist prick. Sockpuppets/Fake usernames will be either banned or have their topics locked. Sockpuppets will be called out, so don't try it, and fake users will be erased. I want an ingame name, if I have none, then the posts are gone, end of discussion.
Spoilers - If your going to spoil a movie/book/ending etc. please give a heads up and let people know. Don't post misleading topics, they will be deleted and the user will be warned.
RL issues - They're okay here, but try not to make them too personal. No full names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. If you need to really vent here about something and think the RL section is not the right place for it, then its fine here. Just remember the community doesn't need to take your side, so if people start calling your RL issues moronic, you set yourself up for it, don't PM and expect it to be locked, you knew where you were posting it.
That's all I got for now. I'll add anything else if I think its neccessary. I want the flameboard to remain a place where people are not afraid to post, but I want them to know what they're getting into and whats my stance on certain topics. If anyone has any suggestions or comments on these guidelines, please send me a PM, the community is the reason QCDN is active, and I will try my best to improve this website as a whole, so don't be afraid to let me know if you feel something is wrong here. The Guidelines for Forum Use will also be updated this week, I'm going to let more stuff slide in general, I really think the community is fine, its simply to let people know how I feel about sigs/avatars, post count bumping, etc.
