Flameboard ideas

I've been thinking about some of the stuff i've seen on the flameboard recently, and i think i've come up with a few suggestions:

a rating system for everyone who posts there, so that people with a longstanding record of helpful opinions can moderate the flameboard...

I see a few problems with this, such as HOW, and the fact that i don't like the idea of pupusa fixing another problem...

The reason i suggest this is the fact that someone is kind of taking control of the opinions on the flameboard with a bit of a temper (at least i see it that way, correct me if i'm wrong please, i don't want a needless flameboard topic), and the potential for it to be abused.

I'm someone who firmly believes that power should be in the hands of the people least inclined to the position, since people such as that would utilize it like it should be used.

Except for the fact that this would quickly turn into Allah. Where people would create socks to rate down or rate up people (or themselves), and not to mention those who rate down others just to feel big about themselves.

The Karma system on Allah is inherantly a good idea, almost self moderating, but because people are... well... the way they are. I could easily see people like Colbwa or WSM coming and rating people down for no reason, other than to giggle like schoolchildren as if they'd done something miraculous, or profound.

what's wrong with a negative rating? i don't see what's wrong with making it so people can't rate up... not to mention a few limits on who can rate up/down... like people with at least 500 posts or so would work

Because sometimes the people with truely great ideas are not agreed with. A rating system would have them rated low enough so that they couldn't be rated or seen (unless it were done differently here) and noone would take that idea seriously, even if the idea was good, but just not popular.

It's the same thing where if you post something factual, entirely true, and even state it nicely, you can be sub default in about 3 seconds. Why? Because people who think it's cool to rate down to emphasize the size of their massive epeen will rate them down, then bust out all their rate socks and rate that person down as well. While I generally think the QCDN community is above that, why take the chance?

QCDN is fine the way it is, and personally, minus a few occasions, Cubs is doing a good job at moderating the flameboard, and as everyone said (even before there was a mod):

If you don't like it, stay out of the flameboard. It's not a place that's supposed to be happy fun land. Post spamming should be taken care of, but otherwise it should be a no holds barred place. Think of it like the asylum, which essentially is just like our flameboard, just people have no problems being complete pricks, whereas we try to write "respectful" flames.

It is so infrequent that I see a decent flame nowadays. Either it's written well but lacks any fire to it whatsoever, or it's all fire but reads like ass on a hot day.

Honestly, a rating system wouldn't work here, espicially not in something like the flameboard. The ignore function I believe is a much better tool, and the flameboard is doing fine. There might be some things people disagree with, but I think its taking steps in the right direction, just need to keep a close eye on it.

Just because people don't respond to your posts that doesn't mean its not read Reishu, you put up good points, good enough not to argue against. The same can't be said of your friends.

Lol, and if this isn't against me well i'm sorry, but it sure seemd like it since your posting in the "honor" thread alot. JUst because you don't agree with what is said dosen't make it right, or wrong, because you could be wrong as well. What it does is give you a different point of view, and test to see if you believe in it enough to defend your beliefs. And if you sit there defending your beliefs maybe someone will put it to you so that you can understand the otherside.

However trying to "silence" someone because you want to win, is a poor way to go about things. As in real life people like to read things with "emotion" not bland informational type posts looking like its taken from a dictionary. People like "soap operas" not the "nature" channel.

Anyway I hope ya get my drift and not get too "insulted" on the flameboard from whoever your talking about.

I like this quote. Its the same mentality my boss had when he let me take over. I have to wonder if he believes he made the right decision today.
