Isn't just posting on the flameboard a violation of posting real life information as you guys can get our IP addresses off of the posts and information we submit on the site?

This is unnecessary. The rules have been there for a very long time. As versed as you are in pointing out posts, and discrepancies, I am very sure you have seen them.

Besides, mods do not have access to ISP records to find your name. If you're truly that desperate to make a point, you will need to find an example that is much less of a stretch.

It's not a stretch it's a valid point that when we post hell even sign in our internet connects with the server and the server isn't invulnerable. I'm not saying the second posting of Rannoch is right (although terribly hysterical). Infractions for giving out a first name? That's a joke seeing as though there are only thousands of other people with the same name. If a last name is involved I can understand the infraction being handed down.

Do you honestly think digging for information via a first name if worthwhile? Seriously just using Jyako's first name results in well that answer should be obvious to any sci-fi geek what would come up on any search engine.

Difference is he was warned. Then did it again. While maybe first name is not much it was the principle of the matter that he was ask not to post it and did.

First, I must say, I have learned my lesson regarding the arguing of rules and such. One must only look to recent events for such validation. I will keep my response to the following points alone in this post.

Second, vehement adherence to particular rules prevents escalation. The entire moderator staff will stand by me when I say, any RL ID information is too much information. That rule would not have evolved had the necessity not been founded at some point in the history of the FB.

Third, I think Rannoch's post would be the first post that could be called harassment on the Flameboard. No matter how you slice it, the posts were in violation.

Fourth, I stand by the IP Address not being identifiable. If you were so concerned about the vulnerability of your IP address, you would not be on the internet. It is an inherent risk you take everywhere, not just here at QCDN.

So, with that, I do not mean to raise argument and discord. Once again referring to recent occurrences, everyone wants consistency with moderation here. Well, that is consistency. I am happy to say, no RL ID'able information has been admitted to the flameboard, with any opportunity to remain there.

I say this, until someone takes it upon themselves to find an exception. Therefore, I offer my exception, that no post containing a RL identifiable string made it to the flameboard with me knowing about it.

Good night, hope everyone has a spiffy day/night whichever...

Oh shit I called it. Not even you, Hellstorm, would have cared about first name being posted.

EDITTING OUT MY OWN PERSONAL INFORMATION(12:46:15 AM): only jyakuntsu would care that his name was posted. i doubt even hellstorm would care

Actually Jyako never said anything about not posting it until after it was posted except cry about it because he thinks he's vulnerable from just a first name.

You're whooshing on my point. You're more vulnerable having your IP information leaked rather than your first name.

Hell if Rannoch didn't post Jyak's picture and you just had Jyak's first name do you honestly think you'd be able to pick him out of a crowd if he didn't respond? No you wouldn't.

See my post in response to Hellstorm about only Jyakuntsu caring if his first name was posted on the site.

Did I ever say it wasn't harassment?

You stand by the IP addresses not being identifiable yet you ban sockpuppets based on IPs and admins have access to getting IPs. If they can get it you don't think someone with any sort of knowledge of hacking could hack the servers or even cookies that store the information (the ladder obviously being more client side than server side)?

are you still complaining about this? Seriously, i dont give a care about what you want to hear. If i dont like you and you try to act slick and tell everyone what my name is, then you bet your damn britches i'll say something about it.

Romper if i dont like you, which i dont, i swear i'll report your ass if you tick me off; regarding you breaking the rules.

You may not care if someone says your RL name here, but it is my name not yours. I dont want my name spewed here, which is why i dont post my NAME here. Get it? got it? good!

and yet after you got your post deleted you still post my name on these forums? What the fuck is your problem. Seriously.

This is one of those cases where the staff will lose no matter what. Granted, the offense in question wasn't the most serious infraction of the rule in question, as I'm not sure first names were the sort of r/l info the rule was created to prohibit, but a rule is a rule. I think it's better to enforce the rules as if they're black and white, anyway. At the very least it creates consistancy. If they didn't do anything in this case, and god forbid someone else got punished for posting r/l info, we all know this case would come back in the form of another 20 page flameboard debacle. We wanted consistancy and we're getting it. If anything, keep the black and white, no exceptions rules enforcement, and just amend the rules if something isn't working.

It is 100% clear there is a problem here, when an individual with zero right to share someone else's personal information, does so. For that total disregard, you earn yourself a beautiful prize of further infraction on flamebaiting and read-only access. Congratulations!

The results of your submitted work were so fantastic, I have even removed many follow up posts so that no one else may use the intellectual property.

My sarcasm itself is probably a flamebait. So let it be known, RL identifiable information is srz bzness.
