Flaming FFXI & WOW

She sounds like an overbearing bitch who didn't try to save shit.

Put aside 30 minutes to watch TV? THAT is your big attempt? Drop your dress and blow him, that will get him off the game.

Most guys will continue playing while getting blown. Remember the whole FFXI>Sex discussion like a year ago.

Unfortunately I was on the losing side probably. Sex > WoW/FFXI. Not only am I the raid leader and master looter, I also have the highest DPS in the group.

Master Raider of poon...then you distribute the loot in her mouth correct?

/degrading women off

After doing the math, she must've been 20 years old (or damned close) when they got married. That's a good jump start on divorce right there.

Who in their right minds would get married at 20?

No, it's not a jumpstart for divorce. At least it's not if done correctly.

My parents got married at 18, had me at 19, and they've been married for going-on 28 years now.

My brother and his wife got married at age 19 and (now age 21) just had their first child.

Nothing wrong with it, physical age has jack-shit to do with it; maturity is everything. The dude lost his grip on reality, and in lesser words, he stopped caring about his wife, his marriage, and himself.

My parents were like yours. My dad was 20 and my mom was 19 when they got married. Of course it was because my mom was pregnant with my brother and he was born 12 days after they were married lol However, they have lasted 26 years now, just had their anniversary the day before Valentine's.

The age thing isn't really relevant. Hell, I met my husband when I was 16 and got engaged at 19, which means we've been together about 12 years now. It's obvious that their marriage was a colossal failure waiting to happen, and WoW was just what set it off. It could just as easily been set off by fantasy football, coin collecting, the Auto Trader messageboards, or any other leisurely pursuit in which the husband decided to spend time on. It's not what he did, it's how he did it, and how she decided to react. It only took them 9 months to go from happily married to divorced, with no apparent effort from either to attempt to get couples counseling or even have an honest discussion about it.

Also, wtf is with all these people who have issues with an MMO, quit the game, and then decide to come back and preach to the masses about how MMO's are evil and the ruin of society? OH NOES YOU SPEND YOUR FREE TIME KILLING CRABS YOU NEED TO BE SAVED BEFORE YOUR LIFE IS RUINED. Please.

I like how her only solution was to watch TV for 30mins.

Hey fuck smoking crack, come do some heroin with me!!

He's obviously got addiction issues, and all things considered, while he'd be best off not addicted to *anything*, there are a lot more harmful addictions out there than an MMO. Marriage or no marriage, if he's blowing off basic stuff like paying bills and doing housework to play a game, then he's got issues to resolve, whether there's a wife in the picture or not.

And as for her, she certainly wasn't doing anything to help the situation. Did she have a right to be concerned about her husband's addictive behavior? Sure. Did she handle it anywhere near *remotely* well? No way. She set herself up as an antagonist, and if anything that would simply make him want to avoid RL even more than he already was. The trick isn't to get him to simply stop liking and stop playing the game and assume he'll then simply spend time with her by default... the trick is to get him to *prefer* spending time with her over spending time on the game.

Men are not complicated creatures, and will often simply choose to do whatever's most appealing at the moment. Maybe whatever's most appealing in the long run. If he found the game so very much more appealing than spending time with his wife, the obvious question to ask would be *why*. Did he feel the need for some sort of competition? For some sort of accomplishment, however fictional? Or was she just really really poor company? And that's not even getting into their sex life.

Not, of course, to mention the "if you can't beat them, join them" possibility that she apparently didn't consider, wherein they could spend time together *and* he could go on playing the game. And if that was her side of a compromise, it wouldn't have been too unreasonable for his side of the compromise to be playing the game less overall.

Neither of them was anywhere near in the right. He definitely needs help in his own right with the addictive behavior, but she might want a dose of reality herself before she similarly poorly handles the next relationship problem that comes her way.

It seems to me that the fault was on both sides. I play with Tristam but we had problems last year and took time off from a lot of things to make them right. Couples needs to be able to judge each other's weaknesses and help each other through it if they have problems. WoW was only an example of something that could be a time/money sink. It could have been porno, gambling, drinking, or any other addiction. It's sad to see it happen but she should have tried to handle it better and he should have saw that there was something wrong. A lot of articles like this will have the non addicted spouse as the hero and it's hard to know what really to do in that situation unless you're in it. Flashing Tristam always seems to work. :)

The woman doesn't lie....works 100% of the time. And if it doesn't, I deserve to be shot in the head.

Well said. Her putting 30 minutes aside for tv was her opening a door for him. A simple 30 minutes. That's not a lot of time yet he was unable to do it. It was one example of I'm sure many where his gaming came 1st. If her side is accurate he obviously put gaming ahead of their marriage, and just about everything else since he played every ounce he could. Most of us are/were gamers, and we can easily understand how these games can really absorb a lot of time. Put yourself in the other persons shoes. She didn't understand why he'd put more time into something that wasn't real instead of what was real...her.

she brought him the game, blame herself

I agree with Baja, I'd blame the wife (not that the guy is totally out of blame). That's a problem with our society though, we all place blame on each other when reality the blame should be given to everyone involved in the matter.. lol
