Seeing [GM] Dave's adventures in Valkurm Dunes takes me back... And it's something I'd rather not think about in retrospect, seeing how I "screwed up" 5 other people out of a WHM.

That was back when I started leveling seriously... WHM solo style. Ah, good old Tahrongi Canyon, how I miss your hares, mandies and saplings. As I was whacking my way to L12, I equipped myself in consequence, that is with a 2-handed pole, and the best armor I could find, which was the Doublet set. I even had earrings, as I felt like I needed to fill all those slots. Given, they were Tourmaline Earrings (Wind+2, Earth+2), but I though "hey, that dust those bunnies throw my way hurts!"

So I was happily killing the local fauna, far from where goblins wander, when I got this nifty little message.

Someguy invites you to his party.

I've heard of those things, but didn't knew what to make of it. Heck, I didn't knew much about /tells and the such. So rummaging around in the menu, I finally get to find the Party menu, and selected Accept Invite. A few Hellos later, I asked them where the heck they were. They kindly enough guided me to where I needed to go, and thankfully, I didn't cross a goblin on the way. Aggro was such a novelty to me at the time.

So we set up behind the outpost, I ask them what I need to do, and they told me to heal those who got hurt. Simple enough, at least that's how I felt about that. I didn't engage the mob, since all I knew at the time was /ma Cure <me> and /ma Cure <t>. How could I possibly heal someone while engaged to the target? For the party, I even modified my macros to a full set of /ma Cure <p1> to /ma Cure <p6>, same for the tier-II equivalent.

Things went rather well, until...

Ghoul hits Flaruwuru for 46 damage.

This is rather funny thinking back on it. I swear, I started running around, hoping to shake the damn thing off my back. The party was already fighting something else, so when they realized I was being wailed upon, I was already nearly dead... and out of range. Needless to say, I ate dust for the first time in Buburimu Penninsula.

I remember approximatively what I said. It was something like :

"Well, this was fun while it lasted."
"I bid thee good luck on your adventure!"

...then I Home Pointed back to Windurst, and fiddled with the Party menu to leave the party. Little did I knew I could have set my HP at the outpost, and be right back into the action. I didn't get any angry tells or anything, so I innocently went back to Tahrongi to kill more bunnies.

Thinking back, I can't help but feel extremely n00bish about that experience. I knew nearly nothing about the game, only have discovered about the AH and signet recently and everything... Gosh, those were the days...
