So I have a flash drive that I've been using for a while now and I just went to listen to some music and it's asking for it to be formatted? I know if I format it then all the stuff will be deleted. What do I do to recover my stuff? ; ;

Do a quick format if anything, that way the index is only wiped.

After that go to Stellar Phoenix and get their FAT32/NTFS file scanner, and scan the flash drive (post formatting), it'll list the files you'll be able to recover. If the results are satisfactory with you, you can restore the files with any data restoration scanner out there. Or bittorrent Stellar Phoenix. (It's worth every penny tho).

Quick Format so only file index is wiped.

Stellar scans every fragment and sector and rebuilds the index on its own. Stellar will not alter or write to the targeted drive in any way, the index is stored in memory and you can save it to another path.

check if it shows up in disk management too.

start->run->diskmgmt.msc it will more than likely show up as a fat32 volume of some amount - see if you can assign it a drive letter there, and see what happens.

I think it does show up under MyComp since he's accessing it. Probably something is fishy going on with the drive's F.I.

I've never seen a flash drive become unmounted D;.

If it is vista i get that message alot when i plug a drive in.
