I just got out of a PT in Garliage with my 32 BLM. Bad enough that some higher levels kept having to train Citadel Bats to the zone, and even worse the party I was called in to replace a member kept me waiting over an hour instead of the 15 min like I was told. Lots of people died, yadayadayada... and we finally are in condition to start to PT. FINALLY.

I saw the questionable makeup of the group... WHM, WHM, PLD, BLM/DRK, and me... we picked up a well-equipped MNK, his name escapes me though. I warned them I'd have to leave in about 30 min because I hadn't planned on staying up really late, and that they'd already made me wait a very long time. However... the first fight ends, and I was the ONLY mage to even bother with ANY enfeebling... all the other BLM/DRK (Taru, lv 13 sub) did was spam his strongest spells which bats aren't even weak against (Water II, Stone II, and I think Thunder was just incidental, cast it only because it's powerful not because of the weakness)... At any rate, he's flying thru his MP, the PLD vokes about once a minute (Foa), and we barely finish the fight... both WHM's about 1/4 full MP bars, PLD with almost full MP, both BLM down... I'm at about 1/4 MP, and the other guy is empty.

So, we rest, we rest... then, the PLD, Foa says: "don't waste mp on baby spells like rasp"

O.O;; Excusemoi? Fire was starting to get lit under me...

Me- "Uh, you realize I'm helping you out big time by casting Rasp, Paralyze, Frost, Slow, Blind, right?"
Foa-"they do crap damage.. use the good spells like water II stone II and thunder"
Gamelord (BLM/drk)- ":)"
Me- "Damnit, nobody else is enfeebling, we have 2x WHM. Who else is going to do it?"
Foa-"omg we have another know it all -_-"

(/slap!!! Grrr... of course I'm going to know how to play my job -_-)

All the while, Gamelord is running around spamming /em hugs <t> macros all over the place, saying lmao out of nowhere and says something about filters that made no sense to me whatsoever. Just a pain in the ass. (Foa is also a female avatar, probably a boy playing it (MMO rule #1), as I've yet to meet any female that actually uses the blonde hume with the long hair and wisps to each side)

Someone trains some more citadel bats while I'm trying to beat into their thick skulls that enfeebling magic can go a LONG way... so I hop up from resting and start casting Escape.

Gamelord just keeps going OMG train zone zone and standing there, while I'm casting, and I manage to save 5 of the 6 people.. one of the WHM had died in a previous fight due to lack of provoking, or non-existence of provoking, on part of the PLD. So, we all survived.

Outside:
me-"You're welcome -_-"
Gamelord-"I have escape too!"
me-/sigh

Gets into more of an argument about spells and the role of a BLM in a party, and I say if all you're doing is slinging nukes you're really not doing your job at all. If you want pure DMG, get a ranger. BLM offers something special to the PT that is unique to them, such as special debuffs, backup heals, and the ability to finish off mobs at the snap of a finger.

Anywho.. Foa was very difficult to get along with and insisted on throwing insults at me. Gamelord was just... well, he added to my headache BIG TIME.

Survey:
1) Have you ever asked someone to NOT use Enfeebling Magic?
2) Have you ever asked a BLM to do NOTHING but chain-cast your strongest nukes from the moment the mob reaches camp like Gamelord was doing?
3) Do I come off as THAT much of a dick about the way I play -MY- job? :P

Keep in mind, I never once complained about anything in party chat... only started to argue after I was told NOT to enfeeble. Kinda wish I was 40+ at that moment so I could warp II the WHM's and the MNK and leave him and that other BLM behind. -_-;

1. no never.
2. only in the rare 3-4 blm pt. (god those are fun) but it doesnt work well unless you Have 3-4 blms.
3. i dont think so. sounds like you were trying to bring your jobs skills to the pt, when what they were after is a blm with no thought of hate controll.

Ahhh... The classic "Cannon" party (Nothing-But-Nukers Group).

One of those is always fun, no doubt.

Anyway, Rune's in the right.

1: Nope. Generally that sort of thing is implied, and expected of both BLMs and RDMs alike.
2: No... That's asking for trouble, and a dead Black Mage at that! I have a static PT buddy, and LS member, Belgarath. I'm a Lv. 54 WAR, he's a Lv. 55 BLM. Even when we have a retarded NIN or PLD in our group, I make sure that no matter what; if that mob goes after Belgarath or our other mages... My Elvaan ass BETTER voke off of them. I'd rather I die than the mages die.
3: Not at all. I agree with you. Because alot of things happen to me where people try to tell me how to do my damn job, and it makes me wanna slap the hell outta them right there. I'm Lv. 54 for a reason! Obviously I must be doing SOMETHING right if I've gotten THIS far! There was this one time where I was forming a PT... I invited this Elvaan THF who, out of respect, I will not repeat his name. WARs are best with Great Axes, right? This THF actually wanted me to go to the Auction House... Buy a Great Sword... Level up my Great Sword, while EXP Partying... JUST so I can Skillchain Distortion with his daggers... I told him "I'm not doing all that", and he pretty much said "Heh. Good luck" and disbanded... So who was in the right here? lol

Survey:
1) Never done that. Enfeebling is GOOD. Not enfeebling is DUMB.
2) God no. Even if we are all going to die if we don't kill the MOB very quickly, I would still not ask this. I'd sooner voke it and run it away from the party, without word.
3) Um, no. If I get into a disagreement about the way to do something, I search for common ground and choose that route, or I always have the option to leave on the grounds that, "This party is just not for me."

Haha that's kinda funny, because I escorted Foa to Yhoatoar Jungle when s/he asked me for help while I was helping people kill gob trains in Yuhtunga. I guess there is always more to a person that meets the eye.

I agree with everything you said here. However, it is not a bad idea at all to have a G. Sword leveled and on you for the purposes of skillchain flexibility. It was also kinda wrong for him just to take off like that though. With that kind of attitude, you were probably better off without him.

1. Yes, but thats because I'm a rdm and it's my job :P. Most of the time people make sure the RDM, WHM, and BLM are casting their enfeebling spells though, I've never come across anyone who says "Don't use paralyze, that's useless!" If I did, I'd have to get the slappin hand ready.

2. NO! At my level there getting things like Tornado and stuff, if they did that it would be Blm=dead O.o. You don't want to put the BLMs life in danger and have him die every fight just because you want him to cast all his strong spells.

3. No. Sometimes you have to stand up against people who don't play the job but think they know how it works anyway because they read it on some website :P

Update: Somehow wound up in a PT with Gamelord again tonight... he starts speaking in Japanese inside the party. I realize a few words, and he's calling everybody in the party "stupid bitches", and worse. I point this out, he keeps saying "LOL LMAO" that type of garbage... and proceeds to calling us all noobs. /blist add Gamelord.

Piece of shit... I hate people like him.

Further strengthens my belief that if you have a Mentor Tag up in an EXP zone, you're a bad, bad person and should probably get shot executioner and rolled off a steep, jagged cliff. Use great caution when in a party with this assclown... I'm done, just had an awful night.

Gamelord...

He was in the dunes the other day. Let's see, random "/shout lmao"s and "/emote hugs <t>"s. At one time he /shouted "I like pie" (to which I, needing some humor at the time, replied "so do I, especially pumpkin").

This continued for some time, and I started wondering about this guy's mental stability...

And about having mentor flags up in exp areas, my rule is only in Dunes. It helps the newbs learn but unfortunately the n00bs seem to treat you like shit. >_<

Yeah, but you don't want someone like Gamelord teaching newbs...ugh, thats like telling a 1st grader to teach a 10th grade class!

Agreed. There should be some sort of test to apply for mentorship. It's far to easy...

That's one reason why I'm trying to restore the mentor image. Some people think it's just a sign that you've reached level 30 in one job. Once in Yhoator Jungle a lvl 31 party leader named Tidusk was severly bringing down the exp of a lvl 28-30 pt, he admitted this but said that he wasn't leaving. When I said he was being a bad mentor he said "Dude, being a mentor just means you've reached level 30 in one job, nothing more". We all just disbanded and reformed because we couldn't kick him. /sigh how do noobs make it to level 30

I don't have good memory about my life lvling in Garliage..
I also met some crazy nuking BLMs there..

As a BLM....

1) I start doing , or learned to , enfeebling Magic at late 20s, coz I almost got all the 6 kinds of enfeebling spells at that lv. May be some ppl thinks that, they can't see a big difference with or without the spells, so they think you are wasting mana ( I cast at lease 2 enfeebing magic = 50mp). Some ppl LOVE to see BLMs do decent demage, they think that's the only value of BLM in the PT.
2) honestly, my habit is:
I only start casting nuking spells when the mob have 4/5 hp left. Before that, I do some enfeebling Magic/bio...I don't wanna grab hate as a TARU blm (you know, it's hurt). Drain and Aspir are good friends to me, as I don't want to nuke with strong spells at the beginning. (Although ppl see only 0hp is drained from the mob, but that dark spell still doing demage to it.)

Chain-cast the strongest nukes from the moment the mob reaches camp=you don't know how to play BLM. BLM should be the last one to end the fight, BLM should give time to the voker builds hate. WHM's mp should be used to cure the melees, not the BLM..

BLMs should remember the elemental chart by heart. Casting a Bizzard after Fire will weaken its demage. In my experience, chain-cast doesn't make so much demage, some spells wil only do 1X demage to the mob... I don't know the reason, maybe the mob will show its resistance to magic after getting a hard hit from a -II spell. I always wait for a while before casting the next nuking spell if I cast a-II spell before.

Save MP!! I don't know what's happening next, especially in the places like Garliage.. if things going bad, the one that can save the PT is BLM's Escape! I always save around 150mp after the fight in case of linking/aggro happens suddenly. I never waste all my MP and do silly chain-nuking. It helps to do xp chain too.
BLM with no mp = useless in the PT.. It's what I think.. juices can't help much if you get 1x mp left after a chain-crazy-nuking in 1 fight.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was in a PT with 2 BLMs at that place before, I feel sad that the other BLM I met also did the same thing as what Gamelord did.... so I simply do the enfeebling spells then so some backup healing/ lv my dark magic.. I don't think I can change his playing style after complaining in the /P, he will learn that the way he played his BLM is not workable in higher lv.

BLM should be a "invisible nuking guy" at the back and the mob never notice you lol....

Crawler's nest is a better place maybe.. I can't see a single chain-nuking BLM there anymore. XP chain is an important part in the lvling at that lv, I believe leaders will boot a BLM that don't know how to use mp wisely.

The mentor flag is to show your willingness to help new players. To answer questions, help them do quests, and get them used to the game. Its not a status symbol or something that makes you "cool". Even though I am a mentor I believe that you should be able to get mentorship at lvl 40 instead of 30.

Everytime I see someone with the mentor flag up in an EXP area, I ask them a question about the area. Somtimes, this forces them to take their flag down, as they realize they really don't know jack... I put mine up ni the dunes, sometimes in Qufim, sometimes in the Jungle. But that's after joining a party, so my members in the PT can know that I will help them with info if they need it.

I think most people either just like the "M" or... think it actually might get them into parties. Which is a very sad thing, the second that is.

Gamelord...yuck

What a moron. He was in my old LS. I'm going to make a flame topic about them. He's pretty obnoxious and stupid, and he types out insults in broken romanji on a regular basis.
