OMG I love that!!!! So true, so true.

True story:

Steve, my husband came home the other day. Pissed off to beat all hell. He started ranting about the fact that the Christmas song Oh Christmas Tree has now been changed to Oh Holiday Tree. When I heard this, I of course, started ranting also.

I'm sorry you people who are not religious and don't have the holiday spirit, but if you don't like it IGNORE it!!!! What the hell gives you the right to start trying to change our traditions? Now, it's gettin' so bad you're changing songs cuz of certain lyrics? There has got to be a place to draw the line!!!!

It's okay for all these damn rap songs with killing each other, and talking about screwing yada yada, and y'all don't say a word, but you'll take a Christmas song and start screwing with that because it has a religious undertone? Gimme a fuckin' break!!! It's just outa control. The U.S. is supposed to be the country of freedom of speech etc. This country is goin' to hell in a handbasket fast.

Contrary to popular belief, the 1st Amendement rarely applies in daily life.
I would be willing to bet he heard that song in a department store or shopping center of sorts where those who run it made the choice to air this variation of the song.

Interestingly enough, Oh Christmas Tree is a song that originated in Germany way back when, and wasn't called Christmas Tree. The German's sing "Oh Tannenbaum ...", which basically means "Oh fir tree". Someone else assciated it with Christmas later on.

In fact, it's not even a Christmas song in it's original form at all.
It's a song about a fir tree during all times BUT Christmas.

Just a little German Folk Songs 101 ;)

That's true Sculli, I do know that. That's okay in my book. Take it back to it's origins, but DON'T do yet another different version.

I have no problems with Christmas songs, or all the shopping or whatever, I do not think of it as a religious holiday at all. To me Christmas means lots of good food, a few days off, and some good gifts.

I think it's stupid it's like oh this is so wrong. So what shove it. It's our version of a German song the language, english, is mostly derived from German and nothing shall change that. We're going to have connections to religion no matter what Christmas song w/e. My friend may be fired from her job for saying merry christmas to a customer. That's some bull sh*t. I hope the next thing they do complain about is how rap is always redundant in talking about killing people and having sex with a prostitute. Did I forget shooting cops and doing drive-bys? Yes I did. It's like you aren't tough you aren't from the street you're rich now get over it and stop making stupid people even more stupid.

Oh yea I forgot the video is f*cking great.

Welcome to America, where making the minority happy is more important than making the majority happy!

Stuff like this pisses me off so much. Just because 1 out of a million people is offended by Christmas, we have to change it. Christmas is more of an American holiday than a religious holiday. I'm atheist, and I celebrate it (who would turn down free presents :D). Christmas is all about Santa and Rudolf and stuff, and not really about Christ. But, because of our American bullsh*t, we gotta make the little whiney b*tches happy! :D

(Foamy pwns btw)

LMaooo lol oh man this was funny as hell... going to watch it again til it gets old.

So true though.. very true.. ..and sad for the future generation of kids.. who one day will say "Dad,Who's Santa? " .. fug that not in my family lol Not robbing my kids or any other children of Christmas.

Real atheists don't give two shits about any of this.

Me i don't give a rats ass but i mean you can't change a classic. its just wrong. like lets rewrite some elvis songs while we are at it.

Good read on CNN Tiptoeing around 'Merry Christmas,' er, 'Happy Holidays'.

Bill Press said:
"It is all by design," he said. "The more people are talking about who's saying 'Happy Holidays' and who's saying 'Merry Christmas,' the less people are talking about Karl Rove, torture, Tom DeLay, the war in Iraq and other hot issues.

"And the more they stir up their evangelical Christian base over this issue, the more likely they are to get out and vote Republican in 2006," he said.
The debate has become comic grist.

"Every time you say 'Happy Holidays,' an angel gets AIDS," warned television comedian Jon Stewart.

God... what the hell is happening to people? This is shameful, Christmas is about Santa, presents... Rudolph??? You guys suck... don't piss on my holiday. I could care less about songs, but to me Christmas is all about Christ. I'll give my children and loved ones presents, sure, but I won't tell them Santa brought it to them, I'll say I did out of my love for them. I hated my parents for a week for telling me about Santa, I won't break my children's hearts before they fall in love. I love the whole feeling I get that people ge very happy and cheerful during the season, really, I do. I love being with my family and getting presents and eating pork (yes, we eat pork for Christmas here) but I don't reduce it to just that.

If you're an atheist, get the f**k out of our holiday. And, before you call me a hypocrite, I'll say this: I'm a Catholic, not a saint.

I much prefer the legend of La Befana to Santa personally. La Befana is sort of the "Italian Santa", who flies around the world on her broom on January 6 (Epiphany in the Catholic church, the day that the Three Kings gave their gifts) giving gifts to all the good children.

The legend goes that the Three Kings stopped at La Befana's house as they were following the star, to ask directions. They asked La Befana to come with them to give a gift to the Christ child, but La Befana told them she had too much housework to do. After they had left she regretted not going with them, and tried to catch up with the three kings, but could not find them. So she then decided to simply leave a gift at the house of every child she found, hoping that one of them would be the Christ child she sought.

Oh, and in our house we have both a Christmas tree and a creche (nativity scene) for the holidays. The tree may be prettier, but to me the creche is more important. My grandmother grew up without even having a tree, for her gifts were left next to the creche on Epiphany. (She was German/French). My mother's nativity set is now even more elaborate than the Christmas tree, thanks to her recent addiction to Fontanini. It takes up and entire 8'x4' table, and my sister and I even started a new holiday tradition of "Find the Turkey in the Nativity scene". For some reason Fontanini included a turkey in their "barnyard fowl" collection, which being a New World animal shouldn't be present in a Nativity scene. So my mom hides it, and we try to find it each year, haha.
