Food = Elitist?

Okay, so last night I'm seeking with Lois to level my 54 whm and her 54 monk. We get an invite from Bornfield, a DRK. Told to gather in Jeuno. Okay, we get there, and party setup is PLD, DRK, DRG, BLU, MNK, WHM, with the BLU the lowest at 52, and the PLD the highest at 55. No refresher/dispeller, so when they ask where we should xp, I suggest KRT, since bats dont need dispel, and it appears that Aht Uhrgan isn't an option (we'd been seeking there and told to come to Jeuno).

I teleport us out there, and we ride to camp. We get to the actual camp, I buff, put up RR, eat food, use ring, and they pull. Right away I'm struck by the fact that the PLD is getting hit REALLY hard.. like.. down to half life in 2-3hits hard. I hurry to heal more than I'd expected (Usually with a PLD I can use Regen 2 and a few Cure 2s, maybe a Cure 3 if theres a nasty TP move). Compounding this, I notice it's taking a LONG time to kill the bat. Add those two things together, and after 2 mobs I and the PLD are both almost out of mp.

As I'm resting, I look back at the log, and notice that I only see that Lois and myself used food, no one else did. So I say, "Belgrade (that's the PLD), did you use food?" to which I get an answer of "No. Can't afford it."

.....

So, shocked, I blurt out the first thing that comes to mind. "Well then you can't afford to xp, you should farm so that you can afford food instead."

He says "Listen. No one's ever complained about my tanking before, why don't you just stick to whm-ing and leave me alone, I'm doing great" So I mention that PLD 75 is my main, and that I remember these things not hitting nearly as hard, and say that food would help alot with that. At this point the DRK, Bornfield, pipes in that "I hit just as hard without food as with it" and the BLU, Jamibaby, and the DRG, Billius, say that "look, not everyone can afford food, you sound like an elitist." I respond that it isnt fair to slow down everyone else's xp because you're too lazy to farm, that we could have chain 5 here rather easily if they all used food, instead of struggling for chain 2, but after that I drop it, since I want to get the use of my ring finished at least.

We have a few more long, struggling fights with the PLD taking way too much damage, and I decide to /check him. I find that he is wearing almost all +MP gear, and very little VIT. Add that to no food and no wonder he's getting pounded. So I say to him "Look, I know you don't respect my opinion, but I just wanted to let you know that VIT would help you alot more than +MP"

I get an answer of "Look. I need mp to cure myself. That's how I get hate." As if I didn't know that...... I tell him yes, you get hate that way, but you're taking way too much damage and we're using up all our mp. At which point he says I'm a bad whm for using Cure 2s instead of Cure 3 and 4s (I do this to avoid hate spikes). Then as the next mob is pulled, he says in /party "I'm leaving to go farm and be a good little PLD" and disbands.

I emergency tele us out of there since a mob had been pulled. Immediately the party starts chewing me out, saying that I'm a cold hearted, elitist bitch, for asking the PLD to use food or saying he should use more +VIT. That we lost a "Good tank" (LOL at using up all the mp for chain 2 as a "good tank") because of me. After this goes on for a bit, the constant "OMG you bitch" spamming gets to me, and Lois and I leave to go back to seeking.

So, just thought I should let you guys know that Belgrade, Bornfield, Jamibaby, and Billius seem to think that 1. Food is an elitist luxury , 2. Chain 2 is good xp, and 3. Farming takes too much time. So that you don't waste your time with them. Of course, this being QCDN, I'm sure someone will agree with them that I'm an elitist for asking them to use food, lol.

Unless you're killing colibri, you should be using food lol. This is along the same lines of mages thinking gear isn't important enough to "waste time" getting. I farmed crawlers in the Maze for 2 months straight for my weskit.

and the torment continues. these are the people that will be looking to join god/HNM/assult/ect LS's in the future......

elph and i would have likely left the party at those words. cause they would have killed her desire to exp and pissed me off. cant afford food is along the lines of "i pay my money i play how i want!" :nono:

Food is not a luxury, it's pretty much mandatory for a serious EXP PT in later levels. It's not even like it will set you back gil wise, I mean most shit that drops from mobs in EXP parties can be used to fund what little money you already have.

To do otherwise just makes a you a lazy player, there's no excuse. No ones expecting you to have the best +1 food, just something that will get you by.

And seeing that the PLD is stacking +MP over Vit makes him out to be a complete dumbass and should just stop fucking leveling. Also if the rest of the PT is defending him they're just as stupid.

well, BLU has several forms of dispel spells, 2 of which are dispell themselves.......

But yeah, no matter what, everyone should have food, even when fighting Colibri (unless youre a tank, or someone that will be grabbing hate frequently)

using Cure 2s instead of Cure 3 and 4s
...there's a cure 4? I always remember it going from 3 to 5...
Anyway, they're all morons. Ignore everything they said, and... just avoid that crap.

The only time I use Cure 4 is when I'm not in an xp pt and want to pull hate, like duoing and tanking on whm. People who don't use food in xp pts are a waste of oxygen.

Which filter shows what food people eat when they eat it? I think I have it filtered. I've been wondering if people havnt been eaeting food at my brd's parties too.

How do you get to 54 and not have the money for food. I can't say I know much about tank food, but for fuck's sake kabobs are 400 each. The only time I don't use food is on Colibri or in the first fight or 2 to decide on sushi or meat.

That's right folks, not one but TWO foods. I'm a god damned connoisseur.

Yeah, there's no excuse for this shit. Like me, I'm poor as hell, and I still use food. I mean yeah, if a party isn't great, or my wallet is bleeding a bit much I might swap a sole sushi for a bream sushi (in a situation where I'm using sushi on a mnk. I can kinda justify it. Or on my PLD. Don't ask, I play that job crazy anywho.) but hey, atleast it's something kinda acceptable. Plus, if nothing else: fucking kabobs. Mithka for melee, Fish for tanks, and uh, cookies for magey types. Those are a few k per stack and are better'n nothing if nothing else.

Back before the release of ToAU, I had a pld that was tryin to tank the rams and greater birds in Lufaise Meadows with no food.

I got one of my friends to bring me a stack of tacos and I traded him one. I simply got the message "?", to which I replied "Eat it."

He ate it and during the first fight he said "!", at which point I explained it only lasted for 30 minutes and I would be happy to sell him the remainder of the stack at cost. He bought em and then we started getting much better xp. Sometimes people just don't know and you have to learn em.

After it was all over, i was pretty sure he was playing on an account that was purchased, but I guess everyone needs to learn sometime, especially if they want to come fuck up my parties @ 75. If I'm playing a job pre 50, I take a stack of melee food, a stack of mage food, and a stack of tank food with and give them to people who tell me shit like "food is for elitists". It's easier than arguing and I make them buy the food after I let them try one for free. It also ensures that I will get decent xp.

I'm partying with Trippy!

ahh, I like these stories where there are happy endings for the better

I always felt that food does more for you than your armor yourself. That party had a bad start to begin with even if they did eat food was still 5 front line jobs. Sad that this game has been out for 4 years and people still dont know a formula for a pt setup.

Just from the crystals and other monster drops you get from a xp pt is enough to pay for basic food, Shallops Tropicale are hella cheap and they last for 3 hours.

Anyone who says cooking isn't a real craft is a communist. I rocked that shit out to 100 before it was cool. :/

lolvang.

Sounds like a sushi eater to me.

Actually, the DRK that said he hit as hard with food as without, Bornfield, wasnt using anything. Wasnt a matter of how hard... would have been nice if he hit period.
