Foofighter

When I was playing I just used Steam to download the files, afterwards I didn't even have to have Steam running.

All done with that shit for now Dino. Now your nightmare begins by helping me farm Briareus helms!

I don't have any of those helms XD I need to find people to help with that. Or learn how to be awesome enough to solo the NM. I still don't like the idea of doing that NM upwards of 50 times. Oye SE.... and if I've read correctly that means I have to go around and kill another NM 50 times for the pop item and to get that NM I have to kill normal Gigas to get the drop for the pop of THAT NM. x.x

It's really not as bad as it sounds. One trial item on NMs will be 100% with a 2nd dropping more times than not if you have any form of TH. So instead of looking at it as 50 times you have to farm KI's and kill it, look at it like 25-50 times. Its much more soothing on the mind lol. Also, if you have helpful friends you can farm KI's in a gang (and cover all procs) to make several sets so you can bang out multiple kills in one night. If you want to solo, I normally opt for bst/war. Gives me access to 5/13 WS for red procs. If I have a nin/dnc with me, 10/13. And then I yell for Raesvelg to drop what he's doing when its GS, Polearm or the staff one I don't have lol.

That's not really better imo >.> especially considering you need 3 KI to pop the NM and ya... and I really don't want to level BST to solo. Ah well. I'll prolly see who I can find. It's gonna be interesting. But it's not a big deal, at least I can work on AF3 stuff too.

But ya

Helm: 3 items to spawn 3 NM to spawn the NM for the helm (needing at least 25, at most 50)
Skin: 2 items to spawn 2 NM, 1 NM at least is a time spawn, those 3 NM spawn the NM for the skin (again 25 at least, 50 at most)
Horn: 3 items to trade to spawn a NM to drop a KI to spawn the NM for the 75 wings (like 33 at least, 75 at most)

not even gonna get into the heavy metal and riftcinders needed.

That's gonna be quite timely :P and definitely need a group. As Bigdogg was telling me, apparently the LS I joined in with him used to do this constantly for LS people, but the leader is on break and so most are kinda unorganized atm. I guess I'll be shouting around Jeuno or asking random LSmates/friends at times.

So much to do still :O

Then you enter Tahrongi and realize, uh-oh spaghetti-oh. FOUR key items for Glavoid or Chloris.

To top it all off:
When you're at 48/50...One will drop.
When you're at 49/50...Two will drop.

Good luck with your weapons.

I solo'd a majority of my Tahrongi/Glavoid/Chloris key items by cleaving on RDM90/SAM45 using Aeolian Edge with a Martial Dagger/MAB setup (Atma: Gales/Ultimate/Smiting Blow) and pulled with capped PDT. Sat on the key items until my LS could help or I brewed them myself on THF.

For 3 key items or less, definitely find some help for procs. You'll have better luck that way.

It happens if you're cleaving too. I would usually end up with 3/4 and the last key item wouldn't wanna load in a gold box, so I'd go out and kill the NM on War/PocketWHM.

If you are at all interested in soloing Briareus, I have to disagree with BST. NIN/WAR is best at that. A majority of procs for the lesser 3 and enough survivability to kill Bria itself.

I suppose I'm just lucky. I get procs on the Briareus NMs more times than not and even if I don't get the proc I have managed to get the KI anyways roughly 1/3 of the time. The thing that gives me the most trouble is actually farming the pops FOR the 3 NM gigas lol. (To the point where I end up checking my inv to make sure I don't already have a shield/armband/sock)

Well hey, I guess the trade off of a few procs for TH somewhat evens it out.

At one time it was so popular you could make pretty nice bank selling those pops too.

Hey Foo!

I have thought many times of returning. I just cannot bring myself to do it.

How is the game nowadays?

April fools? lol.

I got about to 15 after we talked about and I haven't been back on for a couple weeks.

Heh, that's how it goes for me anymore. It sounds good at first, but I just can't bring myself to stick around. Nostalgia is a pain in the tail.

I am still loving it but I get to hang out with Dino and Raes all the time. It is more for the comedy than for anything else really.

What's up brotha! I have the urge to install, but I don't know if I'd play enough to justify the cost. It would be nice to hang with old friends though.

(O. O') Now THERE'S another name I haven't seen in years... All the cool kids are doing it!

Welcome Back Orestes, I remember you from the old Affinity days! :D

Tearing it up on Kirin with Ishmaell and the other Ranger crew! Good times!

Hey Auro! Those were good times for sure. I remember seeing you around quite a bit after Affinity as well.

I've logged on a few times, but I'm having problems getting my gamepad to work on Win7 64 bit. Hopefully I can get that figured out. Then, I'll have to remember what macros I need...

One thing I was curious about. Where is everybody? Whitegate is a ghost town. Is it the population really this low, or did the latest expansion provide a more convenient hub for everyone to set as their homepoint?

I had several problems with my controller on Win 7x64 as well. Best solution I found was gets a PS2 Dual-Shock and there is a cheap PS2/USB converter called Super Dual Box Pro that I had forever, worked great, plugged in, found drivers, connect, config and you're done. They don't make THAT model anymore, but there are 7 dollar converters, they're blue transparent plastic, you can grab one of them, they should have a driver as well, and less face it, PS2 controllers last forever and are EVERYWHERE. No need to buy a whole new USB controller at 25 bucks if the "Madcatz" craps out (which they all do...).

One thing worth mentioning is that you'll need to setup twice, once in windows 7 game pad settings, THEN open the FFXI config platform and assign and calibrate the buttons in the FFXI interface. As long as you do it in that order, you'll be fine, took me about a day to fight my way through the bad inter-webz answers...

I would stay away from Xbox and PS3 options on 64-bit though, major driver compatibility issues with the converters and assignment problems within windows from what I read...

Whitegate is pretty much always dead except for Salvage and NNI/NI. I know since I left (shortly after Aht Urg), Jeuno was revamped as the major hub due to Aby content, and now the tele points to the new expansion are also in Jeuno, and they are the new hot-spots. Make sure when you get on, hook up with Foo, we'll get you a pearl and you can start re-learning everything you thought you knew... lol. I'll be off for a bit, spending summer time with my son, but I'll catch ya in game when I can!

For PS3 controllers, I've used MotioninJoy for years and have had no problems on 32 bit or 64 bit systems. I think they even got it working with X360 controllers last year as well. Definitely look into it.

Whitegate is dead because everyone is either in Port Jeuno or Adoulin these days.

Good to know! I never tried the PS3 controllers, only read that there was a constant need to re-map the layout, so I steered clear. I did however try the 360 controller method till I figured out I needed the wireless receiver or the USB cable (not the charge-and-play cable), and the apparent loss of the ability to map both macro sheets. Said fuck it lol. Didn't feel like spending even more on the game, even after all these years lol. I am, after-all, a simple man, with simple needs :-)

Thanks DD, that's what I was looking for.

Regarding my controller. I used to have a ps2 usb adaptor for my pc, but it's been years since I've seen it around the house. I'll have to dig for it.. At some point, I switched to a wired 360 controller, using the XBCD drivers. I tried to use XBCD's latest in win7, but I got a few BSOD's so I guess they're not very stable anymore. Plus, the d-pad wouldn't work. I'll try your advice regarding win's gamepad settings 1st, and ffxi config 2nd though. My problems may have been due to me editing both configs over and over.

I'll look into Motionjoy as well, thanks for mentioning that Xalioniaf.
