I don't know what it is about football games, but I suck tremendously at them. Normally, I suck out loud on both sides of the ball, but lately I've been able to hold my own offensively.

When I play a football game, I always pick the Bears. When I'm selecting a computer opponent, I always pick the team with the worst stats. (Which, in some cases, ends up also being the Bears.) When I'm on offense, I find throwing down-field to be much easier than any running plays, though that may be because I haven't been able to hand off the ball, ever. When I'm on defense, I find putting the controller down and letting the game play itself to be easier.

This brings me to the point of this post: How the fuck do you play defense in a football game?

I've tried everything. Once in a while I'll find a play that works and I'll just pick that over and over again, hoping foolishly that my opponents will choose the same offense every play.

While I have improved, I still lose every fucking game. Before my offensive abilities grew, I was losing games by 30-40 points. Now that I can score touchdowns, I find myself losing by a handful of points, because every time I score, they score, because I can't do dick to stop them.

I don't think I have ever won a football game. I've been trying to win football games since Great Football for the Sega Master System.

I am very good defensivly in Madden games.. But it would be rather long to give you every tip there is.

The one "Noob" tip i can give you is to let your defender trail the WR's automatically.. Once you see the other teams QB select his target and release the ball select manual control of the defender. Just hitting the character change button while the ball is in the air will give you conrtol of the closest defender. Trail the WR until the ball is just about near him and hit the jump button which for me is Y on 360. You have a great chance of deflection or interception there.

Uh... Tell me how deep you want to get with this and i can then know exactl what to feed you with. I am sure there are some other Madden junkies here..

when it comes to madden as of recently, you have to have a decent amount of football knowledge when it comes to reading plays. dont need to be a genius or anything though.

for your first question about running the ball. first and foremost, dont sprint right away. when you hold down the sprint button, the defenders break off and come to you sooner than they normally would. wait until you hit the running gap, then use sprint. in actuality, sprint isnt supposed to be used all the time other than hitting the gap and once you have broken free.

for offense, you shouldnt have to go for the game winner on every down. the shorter parterns is what will gain you more in the long run.

defense, whether its online or singleplayer, is what has the ability to win you the game. what osyris mentioned about having your player trail the reciever is good, only if you good at playing the ball on your own. typically what happens, most times, when you go to control that player that is trailing, they veer in a crazy direction unless you anitcipate whats going to happen prior to taking control. you have to be careful with that one.

when it comes to playing the computer, the computer is not as readable as a physical person. the computer changes it up alot. number one...zone is mainly for pass defense. man/zone is pretty decent for playing run and pass. great for both if the opponent doesnt have high skill/fast players such as TO, etc.
so many things come into factor that its almost hard to go over in a message short enough.

if your on ps3, let me know your user name, ill get on to an unranked game with you and teach you a few general things that will help you start to understand, first off, how to have an idea of what the offense will do.

never mind the ps3 thing. i found your info. if you let me know. ill hop on right now and play around a little
