I wouldnt say that's whats wrong with Japan . .. so they have a fetish with noses and poo, things such as necrophilia and such are known in the states. Anyway, this isnt me protecting Japanese . . . this is me giving you BETTER reasons to poke fun. (by the way, i was one of those "Japan is awesome" ppl until I've been living ehre for 3 months now while studying abroad.)

Reason 1) Japan is one of the most beautiful countries in the world . . . at least its beautiful where Japanese don't live. There's a horrid tangled mesh of power cables, telephone lines, and tv cables stringed everywhich way across all of their cities. It truly is a sad thing to see. The government, i believe back in 2002, made it policy to at least bury their power lines like other countries but have only buried enough to count on maybe . . 2 hands? Instead, what have they spent millions of yen on? . . . . golden telephone poles.

Reason 2) Bullying in middle and highschool is a HUGE problem. It goes so far as to cause other kids to commit suicide . . . and suicide notes roll in every week. Well, one girl wrote a suicide note to a teacher because she was being bullied to such an extent. The teacher apparently didn't do anything and the girl threw herself off a building. When the teacher finally decided to give the note to the proper administration at the school, they asked him why he waited so long to turn it in. His response was that he was "waiting for the right time." WTF!? Yea, he certainly did.
To make matter worse, the administration actually lost the letter in the end. Their response to the entire ordeal was a public apology in the newspaper and a bow to the parents . . . uh huh.

Reason 3) Pregnant woman dies (along with child of course) because she was mysteriously rejected by 18 hospitals for treatment of i forgot what. Not even the worst insurance in the states could get u that kind of treatment . . .

Reason 4) This one really cracks me up. Anyone hear of a guy named Asahara, a Buddhist cult leader? Apparently his followers made some kind of gas attack in one of the subways in some city, i forgot which one. A few died, a lot injured. Asahara wasn't directly involved, and was found in his apartment and then arrested. (By the way, they found some fried items in his fridge . . . fried items he claimed to be against the teachings of Buddha according to his cult.)
Anyway, thats not the funny part, this is. Asahara was being tried with chance of capital punishment. Can you guess why? I bet you can't. He was guilty not because he was tried and found that way, but because he had no representation. His lawyer was found at home asleep. When asked, the lawyer said he forgot the day of the trial . . .

Oh, the culture also leaves me extremely jaded for having to buy peanut butter half the size of my fist for 500yen . . . roughly 4 bucks. Not to mention the fact that meat costs an arm and a leg. JUST BUY AMERICAN BEEF! Seriously, thinking our beef is so bad . . . we have mad cow, you have bird flu . . lets call it even and stop charging me 10 bucks for 4oz of meat!

hehe, seriously, people need to learn Japan isn't the "MOST AWESOMELY 1337 COUNTRY IN THE WORLD". All countries have their ups and downs and Japan is hardly the anime paradise some think it is with anime all over and shit like that. No, it's a lot like america, hell, so much of their culture has been trying to copy the western world while, of coarse, having their own history involved. I really have a huge problem how they treat women... they are some of the most... perverted and sexist 1st world countries :\ at least from what I've seen.

Eh, whatever country is "awesomely l337" to people I'd say is personal. To me, it's Sweden because I'm a fan of the music and film. People who love Japan are people who probably enjoy Anime and video games, and other things Japan has to offer, a lot. Catch my drift? Stop doing this :/

never! There is no awesomely 1337 country, let's just get that settled :P

Its true . . . anime is RARELY on tv, most of it consists of J and K dramas and gameshows. If u wanna see anime, its only on at like laaaaaaaaaate at night (morning) or early morning, at theres not a whole bunch of it. Im actually curious as to how its so popular here when i hardly ever see it.

And Japan is still interesting, theyre sense of beauty, im still convinced is more elegant than western because we've been influenced by Europe's gawdy Rennaissance. But to each their own.

I wouldnt say theyre perverted, cuz ive heard and seen worse in the states, however, they are well . . . sexest to a degree, id say more superficial, but it facilitates sexism. More often than not, they'll hire women based on their looks alone, and a "cute" nasal voice is a plus. Ull often find women doing much of the social work in a lot of jobs though, while the men stick to the paperwork and such.

But yea, each country has their flaws, it just irks me when ppl glorify one culture or another. My bubble has been burst and image of Japan shattered to a million pieces, however it is still a good experience. Never go into countries with such surreal expectations. Accept a country for its flaws and beauty, dont expect . . . you'll be much better off and not lost in culture shock like i was . . . im still coming out of it, but doing much much better.

lolzor.. sense of beauty? So many of their women dress like sluts. The shortest skirts I've ever seen XD Granted not all are (mostly the younger they are the sluttier and it seems they mostly start slutty dressing early age). And I'd say they are quite perverted. My friend's told me of cases where men have pulled clothes off a woman in public and nothing happened to him. *shrugs* though I'm not sure I've never seen it myself, but I wouldn't put it passed em considering the history of how Japanese men treated women and what I do know of from seeing myself.

Sense of beauty does not necessarily only pertain to how they dress. Some do dress like sluts and then there are some who do not. It's pretty much the same as here in the states. I've seen some guys wear outrageous stuff and they looked like complete idiots in my opinion.

You know why some girls do dress slutty? Some do it for attention, some do it so they can prostitute themselves to get money for things like expensive hand-bags, clothes and such.

This has been a problem in Japan for quite some time now. I'm also guessing this problem would never go away if the men there can't keep their crotches in control and don't do any business with them.
