At what level would you reccomend I drag a party with me to go fight the Shadow Lord? What jobs work in this fight and do you have any tips for pre-battle and during the battle.

)When I did it, I tried to make sure everyone knew there would be two forms, and that the WHM could throw out bene in the second form if he thought we needed it. Well, I guess he got confused when I started talking about the magic/melee immune forms, and used it when the Shadow Lord was just about to go down in first form, and then just spammed all his MP away.
The hardest part really is just getting there haha
Still pretty easy, though.

I fought this guy twice. It was pretty much the BLM all the way. Me, as WHM, I did some cureing but I did Curagra II on the party mostly when he was in his second form. He mostly did AOE attacks so it was pretty much called for. I had some Hi-ethers on me. If there was not a RDM or Bard either time then I would have brought some Yag drinks just too be safe. Just make sure you have a BLM and a WHM and you are set.
And also, Stoneskin saved my little butt. It's a good thing.

Lvl 55 is ok if you have the right setup.
I'd recommend WHM PLD RDM/WHM BLM/WHM and 2 DD
And for this fight a skilled DRG/WHM or RDM would help keeping people alive on the final form.

When I did it (at level 53) it was a piece of cake, but that's because of who I was with. 
I was with a 71PLD/WAR, a 70+ WHM, a 61PLD/WHM (he subbed WHM since he knew he wouldn't be tanking so he could Sneak/Invis himself on the way), a 61SAM/WAR, and a 60+ BLM. The hardest part, like Sin said, is getting there. If you have someone that is 68+, they will not need Sneak/Invis at all on the way there, and can open all the doors for you, which is something to consider. The part to be careful with on the way there is the part with the teleporters. Every time you teleport, Sneak/Invis wears, so you gotta be careful and reapply it after every teleport. On our first one, we kinda made a train of demons because one person must not have gotten Sneak/Invis up in time and got aggroed. We took them all out without any problems, though, and continued on to the Throne Room. 
I think my favorite part of the fight was the fact that I wasn't completely useless in it. ^^
But one observation: BLM is very important for the first (melee-resistant) form, and WHM is very important for second (AoE-happy) form.

Ya, most definatly use 55+ no less than that almost >< my pt had 70SAM, 66RDM, 63BLM, PLD56(me as tank -_-) RNG58, DRK55 we whooped his a$$ then again having a SAM w/Demon Killer was nice SAM 2hr'd and killed his AoE form in about 10sec...
