Well like a few ppl who play a game for a year and eventually wanna try other things I decided to end it with FFXI.

Most ppl usually who quit give their gil away or just end their character. I decided to try IGE. I had this feeling I was gonna get ripped off in the back of my mind but figured I would see what happened. It was a lot of money for my old stuff so if it worked out yay, if not oh well.

I gave about 1 mil away to friends and gave the rest to IGE and got my check today for $1,200.00.

I'm very happy :p

Anyway thought I would share this story if anyone was thinking about quitting as an option to get some return on it, as for my character dont worry you wont see 'me' running around speaking chinese, its going down with the account at the end of the month, they prorate it till the end of the month.

I would like to say its been a fun ride, and enjoyed doing probably 90% of the game. And really glad I met so many wonderful friends... :)

Careful, buying or selling accounts or gil violates the end-user license agreement for FFXI and they just cancel you for it. Nothing in the game can be bought/sold/traded for anything involving currency which is legal in any country -- so basically the only people allowed to make money on the game is Square Enix. Apparently they do cancel accounts if they catch the violation.

Account buying selling, in my mind, isn't as bad as gil selling. I'm strongly against gil selling... even when viewed in the most positive and innocent ways. The "trouble" with it is that it seems to encourage botting to harvest gil and rare drops, bots can be tough to deal with and WILL destroy the game if left unchecked. SO... even though you may not have earned your own gil by bottting, the fact that there's a way to allow the gil gained to be converted into real-world currencies WILL create a strong enticement that will screw the games economy and ruin it.

It's not the gil selling itself per se, it's the botting and screwed up game economy that will logically follow as the result of gil selling that's the problem.

sweet man..damn thats alot of money at once...Thats the same plan I have. I done wit the game..well Im not cancelling my account. But since the first day I started playing this game I always had the idea that the day I quit I will make some money out of this game. I never was really rich until i hit lvl 50 pld. I had to wait for my friend that I static wit to catch up. so I camped VE and made alot of money of him. Then I invested the money into crafting..lol got a lvl 73 Smithing atm and I get on sometimes during the week, Spend a couple of hours just making gil synthesizing stuff and putting it up on 3 mules i have. well i make a shit load of money a week with no effort..lol atleast 1 mil just gettin on like a few hours a week. lol then I sell it and Make real money of it. some of you may think of it as a bad thing..well I think of it as a way to be able to say I didnt waste my summer on this game for nothing. its soo sweet I usually have 200-300 dollars a week just sitting my ass playing this game a few hours a week. beats having a job at mcdonalds or some other low wage job. yea its a lazy way to make money. but hey.. money is money.. and as far as I know its not really illegal..atleats im not out sellin pot for easy money. and I did spend tons of hours just getting the money to craft..then lvling up crafting..soo its really hard.not many dont got the heart to put the effort into it, but it really pays off.well Just wanted to add to the maker of this thread that this is a good thread to let people know that you can make some real money out of this game if u devoted alot of time into it and dont want to leave empty handed.

oh btw I never used any bots..Im on ps2...ripped off anyone...stole from anyone... All the money was made wit my well put hours into camping VE with a pld/war lol in dunes and wasting tons of time crafting. So pretty much I have done nothing to ruin anyone elses experience with the game by me making money of FFXI. If I annoyed you during the game lol relax its a game.

You know, I try real hard to get along with just about anyone, despite opinion, job choice, or over all complete lack of ability to write a legible post.

Hell, I even apologized through this forum to Odhinn for singling him out ^^

I personally have no problem with players crafting and farming to earn gil, to do whatever they want with it, you worked for it, so sell it. whatever.
But camping NM's to make big money to be turned around and sold for real world cash is just bullshit.

True, it is just a game, but when you screw with people who wait anywhere from 1 -7 hrs to catch an NM, you make enemies. My advice to you Xcalade, is to keep it to yourself, people on this board will flame the living snot out of you for a hell of alot less.

......and to think I used to get pissed at people for camping NM's to earn gil. If only Square-Enix gave a damn and actually attempted to curb this......................

hmm maybe you misunderstood me a lil. I dont see how Im robbing everyone else off a NM..I mean at first my plans with the gil werent to make money of it. MY friend was 3 lvls below me ..So i had to take a break, I camped this NM with a pld/war..This is a wide scan NM. All i did is sit at the same spot for hours till it spawned next to me. =/. It was my first NM and WHen i got the hairpin i was happy and used the money to buy equipment and such. I bought the opaline dress for a friend. that was the only reason i even attempted to camp the NM lol I thought it would look cute on her. then I bought me a mermaid ring and other stuff. the point is I used the money. even kept 2 hairpins . one for me and one for my friend. well I decided I dont want to play this game much anymore. So I put most of My belongigs up on AH and sold it. and Invested it into crafting. that Is after I was done wit the game. meanwhile My well spend time camping that NM was to improve my equipment and have the best I could for a pld, ranger, and war. What I choose to do with the gil after Im done with the game shouldn´t be a bother to anyone else. Hope this clears up wutever u thought.

Geez You can still Understand my Post. dont be so critical about perfect grammar and puntuaction and such.
