Forced Ignore

We need something like this

We pretty much do.

I think it's a good idea, honestly if it gets to the point that you're going on some kind of crusade against a user outside the FB and won't ignore them - it should be forced upon you so the rest of the community doesn't have to deal with it. There are users I don't much care for, and they're not on my ignore list - but you don't see me begging staff to take care of my own problems. I don't think something like this should be used lightly but in worst case scenarios like the Hellstorm/Jamal thing and the Jyak/Diabllos situation it'd be nice.

People don't ignore because they don't want to. It's because it doesn't do anything. You'll still see people quoting and responding to the person you've ignored, which defeats the purpose entirely.

And that's the problem.

i can see your concept but, I don't think the mod staff should have to hold anyones hand

toughen up(not directed at you pomp)

Its the best solution we have at this point; no one is getting banned because people don't like them.

I agree they shouldn't have to hold their hand. Griefing the general community because of some personal crusade against someone is ridiculous and should be penalized.

I know certain users would not be thrilled if we were to force them to ignore users that they commonly disagree with or exchange in extensive baiting.

True, but certain users aren't thrilled when you put them on read only or ban them in various degrees either. That's not a sign of failure. That just means the punishment works.

I don't think the mod staff should have to hold anyones hand.

True, but there are lots of things the mod staff shouldn't have to do. Alas, some people are childish. In a perfect world, mods would only have to ban bots and do simple forum housekeeping, but this hasn't proven to be the case. I have people I'd love to run a forum crusade against, but it's just not right. Besides, noone would care. I'd just look like a fool.

I assume this is aimed at my last thread in the Feedback section here.

The last thread got locked before I could re-state this, so i'll go ahead and state it here since it's very much related. As stated in my OP, my issue with "him" is not a personal crusade. It's the very same reason I brought up "him" in Feedback, and not Flameboard. Everyone here knows that the Flameboard is for making fun of people, and being made fun of. Anything done or said there is mostly futile, and derailed after page #2, 9 times out of 10 for being "weak" or "not how they used to be". No, the Flameboard isn't for sorting out problems or anything of the sort. So, where to turn? I see a lot of people on the boards who i'd rather not see at all, but a line should be drawn. I'm not the only person on these boards to hate "him" in particular.

I think it should definately be taken into account if a member of the board is deliberately causing grief to a large portion of the community. Causing such grief out of spite, whilst giving no contribution whatsoever or even healthy banter to the discussion boards, as is the case with "him". Provoking arguments; personally insulting, victimising and begrudging more than a handful of members here; and often for no reason. People such as "him" have had their share of flames aimed at them. Flames created to alert people, warn people, and notify senior members of the boards to "his" actions on here (NB: not just petty in-game problems, either). But to no avail.

As forums go, QCDN is a fairly tight-knit group. We have something other forums don't have. We have much closer relations to other members of the board, being a smaller community than most. Now of course, this has it's bonuses, such as the board becoming more personal, and friendly. Unfortunately, the major disadvantage is the fact that people are harder to completely avoid. Active posters aren't as easily camouflaged into the other posters, because they are far more noticed. The ignore function does nothing more than to hide one's head in the sand. It doesn't remove bad apples from the group. It doesn't stop it happening. It's a placebo, put in place to make it seem like it's not really happening. Thus, it's wholly useless. As said before, things can be quoted and replied to.

Forcing me to ignore hellstorm would allow his ridiculous comments to go unchecked. If you're doing it to me, you're doing it to the entire endgame populous. Why you'd bring that up as an example is beyond me.

Edit #2: If you dislike the discussions Hellstorm and I have, put us both on ignore ;) , or better yet, mods force them to put us both on ignore. I think you can see I disagree entirely with this.

You have one of the more notable feuds in recent QCDN history, but you aren't the sole reason I offered this proposal. You and Hellstorm were one, the thread about Pchan was another, and the thread about Jya was the third. There are other feuds, no doubt about that, but to be honest, you're a big name and stood out more.

I don't have many issues with QCDN, really. I thought the place was plummetting straight to hell for a while, but I think everything is on the up and up now. Users that previously irritated me have been better lately. The only problem I'd like to solve is the out of flameboard feuding, and the attempts to ban members by popular vote. The former is annoying, and the latter is wrong. Of course, that's just my oppinion, and there's no power behind it, so I posted this to see if I wasn't alone and to offer a solution.

I'm of the opposite opinion. QCDN was thriving before, threads were more popular than ever. People could say things in GD or Endgame discussion without having to be worried about repercussions. Now, all I think of when i think qcdn is kumbayah and smores (that's not meant in a positive sense)

Well, it's out of my hands now. You're not alone in your position. If the staff take your view of the matter, that's cool with me. I'll just shut up and move on to other issues.

I wasn't really intending to bring it up as a feud or anything...All your interactions with hellstorm that I've seen have been outside of the Endgame discussion boards, as I don't visit there + and the ones outside of there haven't been pretty :)

Sorry if you got insulted - but the only two major feuds between certain users that I've seen recently have been the two I mentioned and I seem to remember a call for hellstorm being banned a few times.

Sorry for bringing you up, honestly now that I think about it things have been better and I enjoy little feuds - i just hate people asking other people to be banned because they don't like them. :)

Personally, I'm still waiting for the post calling for me to step down. That day is going to rock.

Miros should step up to Supreme Dictator for Life. No veto, no retirement, you're here until you die or we die.

It's not that I don't like him, it's that I'm thinking of people who read but don't speak.

They see a guy with a billion posts saying something while reading endgame discussion, and take it to heart. Rather than us putting him in his place and the correct things being said, we have to be polite and courteous. I want him banned from endgame discussion forum is all, i could care less what he says elsewhere.

Complete with Calvin avatar.

I support this idea.

There's more than one way to put misinformation in its place, though. Let's create a not too farfetched scenario where I am an FFXI retard.

Maybe I say:
Pompidou: "Swapping weapons makes you lose TP. Blms shouldn't carry a full set of elemental staves because they won't be able to use Spirit Taker, and will struggle for MP."

Now there's clearly a rebuttal for such stupidity. You'd have math on your side. FFXI is very mathmatical. You're the resident parser expert on QCDN after all. You might post something like:

Jamal: "That's not how FFXI works. Here's a spreadsheet comparing a blm who swaps elemental staves and rests whenever possible compared to a blm who melees with a somnus signa and uses spirit taker. The results are plain as day. (Cue mathmatical evidence here. You've always got formulas.)"

Now I could persist, but if the truth isn't on my side, as it often isn't when people argue with you on the workings of FFXI efficiency, I wouldn't be able to offer any counter evidence. If I did, you would be able to show that it's fake, because it would be.

The potential readers you defend would either side with your position, based on its evidence, or they'd be retards like me. You can't help retards like me. In the above situation, you won the day without a feud. The people who won't be convinced by evidence won't be convinced by rivalry and feuding. You've always got evidence. I disagree with how you go about presenting things, but there's usually truth somewhere in the messages. If you argued more with tact and logic you'd be unstoppable. You can win without bickering and name calling.

But who's going to rate the fools further down into red dot abyss? If 5 glowing crimson beacons doesn't clue someone into their own stupidity then maybe 10 will?

I think its our duty as a community to make sure these people understand just how invaluable their opinions are and to keep faith that one day our qcdn favourites may look into the mirror and finally realize "wow....i really am an absolute tool". Who are we to take that enlightenment from them? Who are we to stop caring?

I believe in them, please believe in them too.

If you flame outside the flameboard you should have to worry about repercussions. Why can't people discuss things civilly and passionately without crossing over the line? I know you and Caerloc, when in disagreement really go at it, but haven't stepped over the line. If everyone could control themselves like that, QCDN would be a much better off place.
