I'm going to within this month or the next most likely buy a Ford Fusion, with the built in Ford Sync.

For those who don't know, it's a all-in-one system to hook a phone and mp3 device, so you can do a whole ton of things... for example... hit a button on your steering wheel, activating voice dialing, and then talk through your car speakers/built in microphone. Also can link to portable media players, and access the files directly, rather than inputting them through an auxiliary, so there's no need to fiddle.

I use AT&T for my wireless service, and am eligible to upgrade, and have been snooping around to get a phone that will be compatible with the service.

My dream: A phone with a built in MP3 player that can do everything. When I look at the compatibility list, it shows phones and mp3 players, and has features for each.

The Sony Ericsson W580i, on the phone side, does just about everything... all it's missing is the customized ringtone playing through the car speakers, no big deal at all.

Here's what I was looking at.

Not sure that link will work directly, can get there from www.syncmyride.com > Owner Resources > View the mobile phones and media players we’ve tested to work with Sync.

The only problem, is it shows... "Audio Streaming"- description - If your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone supports audio streaming, music and audio podcasts can be streamed from your mobile phone through Sync’s audio system.

Which doesn't sound like it would give me the features I'd get from a dedicated mp3 player, just stream the music like it was connected through a cable and I'd have to fiddle around with the phone to actually play.

Now you're probably saying... AT&T, phone/music player... stupid, use an iphone!

Well, with upgraded firmware... as a phone, it misses... the customized ringtone, who cares right?

It misses Text Messaging, which is kind of cool, for it to read aloud the texts you get, and allow you to select from 15 personalized texts to shoot back. I'd miss that a little, only because I'd show it off to everyone.

Now it is missing audio streaming, but it also shows up in the list for syncable mp3 players, which means I should be able to control it through the sync system. Does this mean I can use this one device, sync it with my car, and have all the functions work(save for text messaging)? I read some forum on the issue and people have expressed issues(others said they had no issues outside of text msging).

Iphone is kind of an expensive device - I'd like to not have to buy one if there are any other mp3 phones that can sync up that I can get the $200 with the service renewal. Especially without knowing for sure everything will work as I'm hoping. In theory I could also just hook my psp into the car and use that for music, but it'd be nice to have just 1 device for it all and know it works, something like the Ericcson that will for sure recognize the phone's mp3 function and give it all the options.

Anyone with sync have advice on this subject?
