Forgotten Red Mage techniques...

oh thanks for responses one last question

should i put a wait time between desired spells?

the spell casting time is only half a second with CS but should I just put /wait 1 or can I lump them all together and still work?

Reauland's suggestion is good if you want to bunch of macros under 1 macro command using the <stnpc> and <stpc>. It's actually very effective since you can control when to cast it.

I don't think lumping the spells together without /wait command in the macro line will execute your spells properly. If you wanted to use the /wait command though you should put a /wait 1 if you were to bunch up different spells under the same macro.

Personally I wouldn't bunch different spells under a macro. Every situation is different so at times the spells you have grouped together might not always work the way you want it to in a particular situation.

I use 2 sets of macro palettes (2x Alt & Ctrl), basically you would arrange them how you would feel comfortable in accessing the spells. Assuming Chainspell is used, the time you cast one spell you will have more than enough time to reach the 2nd spell you want to cast and so forth. The time you spend cycling through to the correct spell you want will be a little less or equal to that /wait 1 macro command line you intended to use in the first place. But with this method this allows you to have gear you want equipped while casting your spell to make it effective and also you choosing what to cast in your current situation.

chainspell is one of the most powerful 2H ability of the game. A rdm with good nuke gear can do 3k + dmg in dynamis for example with chainspell blizzard3, which is more than any melee 2H, and maybe astrl flow.

Well, if you're just gonna look at damage, Manafont can pump out more, with more reliable numbers. But Chainspell can allow for a lot more than damage, is the beauty.

I didnt consider the reaching from macro to macro versus /wait 1 Voltorb but I plan to swap to my MAB/INT gear and just go all out.

The spells I will need most of the time will be black magic so INT and MAB help more. Stoneskin from an IT mob or nm will rip easily so a few more points from the mnd swap gear wouldnt help much I'd believe

I've never used <stnpc> or <stpc> what do you mean about you can control when to cast it? I've always used <bt> or <t> for sleeping adds

By control he means that while using <stpc>, a curser appears over yourself and you can tab through your party members. Or mobs too I think.... can't check my sleep macro atm...

I have just one macro involving Chainspell - Emergency Escape Plan B!

Chainspell>Escape>/wait 1>Warp

As with most people here, I don't use Chainspell very often. If I need to nuke, I do it manually.

I'm misinterpreting on your use of /wait command. I assumed that you were using it for having multiple spells under 1 macro with a /wait command between casting each of those spells. As a RDM you know what to cast given the situation and Chainspell just allows you to cast the needed spells faster. It really varies depending on the scenario. If it allows in your case, then yes swapping out INT gear and going all out might be the best way to go if the mob is close to dead.

I've never used <stnpc> or <stpc> what do you mean about you can control when to cast it? I've always used <bt> or <t> for sleeping adds

For control what I mean is, like Neisan has said in the beginning, a blue cursor shows up and you can tab through the desired NPC or PC. The macro or command won't execute unless you confirm your target. <bt> basically aims whatever you want to do at the current Battle Target. <t> let's you target anything that you want to cast or do to that target. <stnpc> limits you to only select NPC and the <stpc> limits you to only select PC.

Now let's say you're currently fighting something, you have an add. Depending on the action of the members in your party the /ma "Sleep" <bt> command might not target the add for your Sleep spell, it may just target the main mob you or your party is currently fighting. The /ma "Sleep" <t> command allows you to cast the spell onto the Target you currently have targeted, doesn't work well while you're fighting or when there's many things on the screen (PC's and NPC's)

With /ma "Sleep" <stnpc> command, you're basically telling the game "ok, I'm going to use Sleep, now to choose which NPC to use it on". If you're currently fighting your main mob and get an add, you can use the /ma "Sleep" <stnpc> and a blue cursor pops up and you can choose to sleep the add while fighting your main guy.
<stpc> works the same way except with only PC and most of the time it would be used with healing or support spells.

Basically the <stnpc> and <stpc> commands saves you from going to the menu and choosing what you want to use.

I would say no but then agian I have all my debuff and buffs macros for fast access.
I use chainspell alot mostly for events, but also get out trouble. For example in limbus where you get you 2 hr every floor ill 2 hr haste alliance, or nuke 1 mob dead. Chainspell stun is your friend and /drk is by far my fav sub. When /nin chainspell = instant shadows (actually want try this sometime on a nm that uses hundredfist to see if keep up with punches.) It not to good in exp party though due to the fact that most the time you would need to use it there is no mp to do much.

personally, most of my macro lists are full (do to my level whore-ness), and I really have no wish to waste a few slots just for the sake of chainspell alone.

of course I have a set for /whm and /blm, but I see no real need to create macros for the ultimate rare case of using my 2hr. But hey, my rdm is only 54, more experienced rdm's may have other opinions..

I know making macros for just one ja is something I dont have to do but I thought it would be a good investment.

but then again I tend to overthink things too much and overlook the simple things often\

but voltorb what you orignally thought was right

I was considering which was faster on the same macro row having a bunch of spells together or having them separate while i go across the list of macros.

but the difference is really small if any as some said so I wont worry about that

Chainspell I heard is good for Maat fight. Im setting up macros for that using Stoneskin and a bunch of Aero 3's
gl and yes chainspell is good but don't use till matt about half way dead because if he reaches you your dead he will asuran fist you to death. Hardest part of maat fight are resist and mp (you being taru sould not have this problem.) Oh and make sure throw dispell in he like sneak in a shell some times.
