Ok this is a thread dedicated to anything military.

If you served or are planning on serving come in here to get some opinions or share some stories with the rest of us on your experiences.

Maybe tell us a little bit about your time in (rank, job,....)

Also, feel free to post your opinions of current political events or worries.

Thanks,

Mohoso

Ok here goes,

I was in the Marine Corps from 1996-2000

During that time I did a bunch of crazy shit.

I joined as a computer tech and got really bored with it so after a long haul and a request later they gave me a new M.O.S. (job)

M.O.S.= Military Occupational Specialty

I told them I wanted more excitement and challenge so they put me into a Artillery Unit to handle communications. (Radio, Satellite, and ground)

Needless to say it was a job that didn't require too many brain cells but was more challenging and fun.

With that particular unit I got to travel everywhere.

We flew to Okinawa and stayed there for 2 weeks.

After we readied for deployment we started towards Indonesia. (Balli)

Yep, our first "vacation/deployment" destination.

That place was wild we all became instant millionaires there because of the currency exchange.

Then we went to Austrailia where we were greeted with women with their phone number written on the white shirts.

As we disembarked they commenced to taking them off and tossing them to us.

Yeah didn't take too much work down under to get down under (if you get my drift)

After that we went back to Okinawa,JP again.

That was my first Westpac.

I also had the opportunity to get some advanced training in Canada.

I got volunteered to participate in the "Unit Exchange Program" and go to Petawawa, Canada.

I was there from Early January til then end of February learning: Cold Weather and Winter Warfare survival training.

That was AWESOME.

Had a great time doing that and must say that made me fall in love with Canada.

Ottawa is also another cool place to party HARD.

I wasn't superman or anything like that but I did my job and always had a blast.

The Good definetly outweighed the bad.

Anyway I was an E-5 before I got out (was promoted 18 days before my EAS)

EAS= End of Active Service.

Well that kinda starts it off, hope to see some other stories here.

And if you have any questions or concerns that I may be able to answer post them here and myself or someone else can offer some opinions on the matter.

**At my EAS I was asked to re-enlist but,

due to our current "Commander-in-Chief" I opted out of that one.

I WON'T WORK FOR A MADMAN!!

Take Care,

Mohoso

no but this is the best suited category to place it since some of the topics could potentially become heated.

Just like the Political topic, I believe that this is the best place to put it.

I proudly served.

wait...i know why you didnt join, your scared of what hell boot camp would put your pu$#y ass through.

im going to join the navy but first i need to become a Citizen. im currently a resident and no way in hell im joining as a resident. you get the worst jobs and no options. the Navy recruiters are such liars. they tell you you can get your citenzhip after 6 mojths of service but that is NOT true >< My sister and her husband are both in the Navy and they both say Navy recruiters are always liars. Anyway, im planning to join right after I become a citizen^^

Bleh. I hate how the most military personnel think they're high and mighty just because of their job. So fucking what. It's a job, like any other, just your job is to defend.

What the fuck do you think us non military people do, we keep this country running while you defend it. Without us there wouldn't be much to defend, hence your job would be pretty useless.

Sorry.. but I really hate it when military peeps get high and mighty. Your not better than anyone just because of your job. /rant off

If this is somehow off topic, bite me.

Unless you're getting shot at or are otherwise in peril, I will continue to rate being in the military up there with being a cop, firefighter, or doctor in terms of IRL 31337ness.

i was on the total opposite side of the U.S. in Camp Lejeune with 1st BN 2nd Mar with the H&S platoon also with the wpns co(when i was with the mortars) now that shizzit was fun. nothing like getting to blow shizzit up

my brother went to Combat Engineer school there.

He got to blow alotta shit up there, now he's in Iraq clearing mine fields.

I was in Africa about 100 miles away in Dijibouti shortly before the U.S.S. Cole was attacked. Oct. 12 about 2 hours before the explosion.

They gave us rifles and said shoot anything unauthorized that comes through or over that wall.

Hmmm.....

We had no problems thankfully.

btw that place had an odor to no end, it really sucked bad.

Fuckin' hot there and you can't trust a one of them.

Mo...

insome senseecks, your right. however.....with a normal job, you go home every night to see your family and are not restricted. for the 4 years that i was in the marines i had gone home a total of 4 times for maybe a week each of those 4 times.
there is no living off base unless your married, if your "job" wants you to go to work at 2am on min notice, guess what your getting up to go to work wether you want to or not.
also, the 4 years that i was in the military, i was out of the country for half of it. not to mention sleeping outside in those foreign countries in weather that can be 2x as hot as it is here and having to worry about the insects and animals that might attack you in the middle of the night(scorpions/snakes etc)
point being, this is not a normal job as you so put it. the jobs that the military does or those that tyrion already mentioned, dont compare to normal jobs. its nearly every day that you hear of a marine, army soldier dying. how often do you hear of a person working at a construction site, post office, grocery store; dying at work
people in the military arent high and mighty, they just take pride in what they have accomplished. if you have gone into the military, you would understand.

ps. military doesnt defend those that are here at home necessarily. they only defend people at home if there is an attack here at home.other than that, they are spending time defending themselves from the actual foreign enemy or people that are here at home that protest the military for doing their job

I dont think he was comparing the difficulty or responsibility of Millitary vs Normal Job... Im pretty sure his context was refering to the fact that being at ANY JOB, be it military or not, is a choice that you made. You are not a better/stronger/smarter/superior person for having chosen a more dangerous(etc) job.

hes not saying that but he thinks that military personnel think that they are superior because of the job they have. the military personnel hold themselves on a higher platform from what job they had evovled from. myself, was working at pizza hut then made a change to the marines which made me look upon myself higher. than what i was
