  1. Delete Anything FFXI. Move those threads to General Discussion.
  2. Move Quests - Missions - Guides to be a subforum of General Discussion.
  3. Move Traveler's Tavern to the heading General Chat, as the stories in there are not always FFXI-related as is.
  4. Delete Linkshell Forum Requests. For the traffic there thus far, it's a waste. People who need 'em can post to QCDN Support & Feedback, or send a PM to Flymop / Alyada / Reeve.
  5. Move QCDN Support & Feedback to be under the General Chat heading (not sure about this one, since support-related things are typically at the bottom of any forum).
    • Move Crime and Punishment to be a sub-forum of QCDN Support & Feedback.

Final layout:

  • FFXI Discussion
    • General Discussion (all FFXI discussion not related to other boards goes here)
      • Quests - Missions - Guides
    • End-Game Discussion (End-Game discussion topics only, i.e. Sky / HNM / Dynamis, etc)
    • Flameboard
    • Good Times
  • FFXI Classifieds
    • Event Scheduling
      • Dynamis Scheduling
    • Auctionhouse
    • Crafter's Corner
    • Linkshell Recruiting
  • General Chat
    • Traveler's Tavern
    • Reality Sinks In
    • Fan Works
    • Off-Topic
    • Gaming (gaming-related posts here, use the subforums for specific games)
      • Nintendo Wii
      • Final Fantasy and other RPG's
      • World of Warcraft
    • QCDN Support & Feedback
      • Crime and Punishment

It'd be nice if the messaging system used here was dynamically and user-changable; I know there's a few forums I hardly ever visit so I could throw them in my "gizarbage" heading. That's a long stretch though from the looks of things, the above layout at least clears a couple of things out of the way.

Just my proposition, I'd like to hear other's comments. The thing I dislike the most about the QCDN index is that it's over a page long in 1280x1024. That's probably unavoidable given the number of forums here, but it's just one of those nuisances that tickles my pickle in the wrong way.

Addition: here's a visual representation that may help decipher my yammering above.

This leaves only 3 headings which people can hide/show for easier jumping around.

I still don't think we need General Discussion and off topics. besides that I like the rest

True that they both serve the "general topics" sort of theme, but one is "general FFXI topics" and the other is "general non-FFXI topics". I can't myself see where people posting to either of those would put their posts, if one of them didn't exist.

Only Reeve now has admin abilites just FYI

Thanks to Cmdrfly I just realized I could hide the sections of the forum that I never read. I like the layout Cmdrfly suggested, it's simple and effective.

"General FFXI" right...then whats "Anything FFXI"?

Doesn't exist in my proposed setup on the right. I'm suggesting we delete Anything FFXI and move those threads to General Discussion.

CmdrFly - I made most of the changes you suggested.

I think were eventually going to phase out the Crime and Punishment forum since I think vbulletin has built in capabilities to accomplish that task. I also left gaming alone as the forums get enough traffic to warrent that for now at least.

I feel the pain about the number of forums... you should see it from my view since I have access to the dozens of linkshell forums!! OMG!! I've been pondering how information can be better displayed on the main index page and I have a few ideas but none that are easy to implement.

Yeah I couldn't really come up with anything better than what I had above. Gaming forum doesn't really matter to me since I hide it anyways, but thanks for making the other changes already... I know I'll like em at least.

edit: oh snap, where'd the datamining thread go? Casualty of the merge? I had that happen to me when I tried to merge some threads in our LS forum...

probably... it was all moved so I guess its in general now as a thread.

Yeah nvm, It got bumped down from the merger. If I was less lazy I'd actually look for it before posting the /panic reply...
