I havent been here long but im starting to notice parts of the website no longer being visible to me each time i come to qcdn.

when i first registered i was able to see what i assume to be the full website...basically the same as most but as you all know, new people have the first few posts reviewed before being visible to the public.

i think thats a great idea and have no problem with it...the problem im seeing is that each time i go to qcdn.org, less of the site is accessible to me.

i obviously noticed the flameboard not showing up anymore, the flameboard sticks out like a sore whatever so that was the first one i noticed missing.

yesterday i noticed crime and punishment, fan works, and general ffxi discussion were basically wiped from my screen. now today, there are about 6 or 7 forums i can actually see ... i still seem to be able to post on them after my posts are reviewed ... but about every other day the site is getting thinner, and i have no idea why.

i did not read any of the stickies and the only rules i know about are the ones sent by reeve when you make an account.

any help is appreciated.

I'm not aware of forum permissions being changed for guests or new members but thats to say that something isn't amiss.

Miros has removed the flameboard permissions from the user group "Registered Users < 10 Posts." There was something about those users being able to edit their posts on the flameboard which is a nono. (This solution helps deter sockpuppets, such as Shaidalyn and co, from being able to immediately spark a ruckus. At the same time, this is aggravating to the legitimate newcomers -- best advice is to just say hi in Meet and Greet, and participate elsewhere until you reach 10+.)

Why the other forums went missing is beyond me.

Way to spit on the little guy trying to pick a bone with someone .... again.

This is understandable. However...

Indeed. Aggravating to the rest of us as well. Been a long time since I worked on a forum, but isn't there a way to invoke permissions based on length of time as a member?
Heh. Here's post No. 5. I'm halfway there. ;)

I would imagine so, yes, but with any decision where options are available - every position can be debated. More important than preventing sockpuppet flaming was the fact they could edit posts on the FB.

It goes like Arc said. The way I see it, the flameboard is sort of a privilege on this site and you attain it by getting at least 10 posts. Just to reiterate what Arc has said, just stop by the Meet and Greet thread and respond to everyone there. It doesn't take too much work to get to 10 posts.

Why the other forums were disappearing, I have no idea. I haven't been fiddling with their permissions at all, only the flameboard ones.

Racking up 10 posts only takes a matter of minutes pending what kind of content or lack thereof you are providing to the boards. Cheers.

Yeah, just pick a few threads and say "Haha." at the end. A winrar is you!

It's not about work or time. I'm taking the time this very moment to respond. I was just disappointed that something I could peruse at my leisure for the last (almost) 2 years was taken away. As the mods here did, I too would take the sockpuppet/flameboard editing issues seriously and do whatever it took to rectify the situation. In other words, I do understand that addressing those particular issues is far more important than the handful of us lurkers having restricted access. It's just that I'm not inclined to respond to something unless I think it's important. So the suggestion of nonsnese posts lacking content is not an option to me. I know that might seem lame, but I'm stubborn in my convictions, no matter how uniportant they are in the big scheme of things. But hey! Obviously, this has lit a flame under my ass. Who knows? Perhaps I'll venture out and read some other sections and feel so inspired. Thanks though for the explanation and resposnes.

Post 6/10 ;)

The main reason why new users are moderated is because of spammers -- typically, new users rack up 10 posts in a matter of moments. Cerato, while I appreciate your situation (and validated you as a regular user) it is the far exception and not the norm.

I hope to do away with moderating new users with the next vb release due to additional spam bot protection but we'll see how it goes.

o_o update.

/drool

My bud had a problem with this too a few months back but Fly fixed it.

Cera coming back from a time of not viewing and just started again recently, or it seemed to reset? (Curious)

Thank you, Reeve. :)

No. It was a recent thing (last week I think) the mods implemented because those with less than 10 posts were for some reason able to edit their posts as well as preventing sockpuppets. I've been hanging out here (albiet, quietly...until now) for almost 2 years. Saw Thinktank's post and responded. Thanks for asking a question Lecreuset, it helps me get another post in and legitimize my ability to view the Flameboard. 7/10!

Would there be any way to leave the less than 10 post members to read-only access on the Flameboard, and then once they achieve 10+ they can post there as well?

Might be a pipe dream, but meh.

o i was wondering what happened to the flameboard.

I have over 10 posts and still can't see the flameboard =/

I just tested the groups and anyone who is a QCDN Registered user should be able to view the flameboard. I don't know why you aren't seeing it Heilger, but I will hopefully be able to talk to you tomorrow regarding this...
