I've never really been a fan of fox news, but lately I've been noticing how full of shit they really are. Fair and balanced my ass. I really started noticing it with some of the recent ron paul videos such as this:

And a few other ones where Hannity and some of the other journalists were distorting what he said, etc.

Then yesterday I saw this video where they were talking about the sex scene in mass effect:

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/21/keighley-takes-on-fox-news-sexbox-sexpose/

Now right off the bat I knew how full of shit they were since I've actually played mass effect. Now some people may throw this out since its about a video game, but i think it shows how their journalist just get an idea and roll with it irregardless of if its the truth or not. Or maybe not even that, maybe they are just told what to say without putting any real research into whether its the truth or not. So is that the fault of the journalists or the company execs? well I'd say both, but either way its journalism.

Also with the guests they brought on. Even though in this case keighley was more informed on the subject being discussed, they shined more light and seemed to side with the "sex expert" who hadn't even played the game and was just spouting shit. Its just crappy news. They are just reporting their side and not being "Fair and Balanced" at all.

Then a member at another forum I post on posted this video (in a thread where we were talking about Ron Paul and I brought up his censorship by, you guessed it Fox News.):

It just brings up further instances of bias guests on the shows and the poor journalism. It also made me further realize just how much of a douche bag Bill O'Riley really is. The fact hes still on the air is just sad.

Also, I'm not even gonna touch on the 4chan, "Internet Predators" and "Internet Lingo" shit they've done news casts on. Because I'm sure we all get those Ims with the GLSIFKHTTLSCI acronyms all the time...

So what do you all think of Fox "News" and/or just the media in general?

Fox News: We report, you decide (unless you're a filthy fucking hippie).

It doesn't bother me that they skew to the right, but I get cracked up when they throw out the "fair and balanced" label. It's a miracle some of their anchors can even speak with that much Cheney semen in their stomachs.

I don't like Fox, I usually watch MSNBC, I find it to be less biased.

Fox News criticized Sweden, accusing us of being lying homosexuals or something of the sort, because someone mentioned Sweden was a country to look up to xD

Faux news is hardly fair and balanced but all of the media outlets are skewed... Its nearly impossible for them not to be and its should not possible to convince yourself of otherwise. The reason they are biased is because it is owned by a person. As much as you may want to think that it is the job of the media to report all of the news that would be the naive position.

I find Fox News to be slightly more entertaining than most of its competitors, though I watch it knowing they are biased for the right. That being said, most media is biased towards the left and nobody really says anything about it, but when the tables turn it's this huge freaking deal. Intelligent viewers should be able to distinguish opinion from facts.

The issue is when opinion is stated as fact. How is one to discern that? If you watch the interview Mass Effect has:

1) full frontal nudity
2) a male character (only choice is to play as a male!!!) that can just choose who he has sex with whenever and however he wants
3) You can actually control the sex
4) It's Luke Skywalker meets Debbie Does Dallas.
etc...
Other things learned:
1) It sucks to "turn the box over" to look for the rating.
2) Oh and it sucks that parents actually have to work to monitor what there kids do.
etc...

I second this. CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, NPR, etc are all very liberal news. I trust PBS a little more than the others but I simply do my own research outside of mainstream news, usually. The only thing close to news in America that I watch frequently and trust is CSPAN. I loves me some CSPAN.

I acknowledge that most news sources are biased to the left, as well. I just stay in the third party and do my best to discern fact from opinion. I don't watch the news on TV for this reason, unless I'm exceptionally bored and want to be humored.

One source I tend to rely on is the Guardian, online. I'm sure a lot of you read it as well. Overall it's slightly left-wing, but the essays it hosts offer a good rounding.

Watch "Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism" some of the things they have in that movie/documentary are hilarious.

People who work for the company and take another job are pretty much blackballed from broadcasting because they quit fox news and didn't leave on their terms.
