freezing problem

Okay guys, new guy with a problem I can't seem to find an answer to.

No matter what I do in the game, whether its playing or loading or whatever, the game starts and stops repeatedly. Every second the screen moves, then stops for a second, then goes again, then stops. Over and over.

No internet problems here, and the specs on my super-computer are fine. Any suggestions?

Side note: My gf has the exact same computer, and it works perfectly fine for her. Wtf?

Nope, everything is fully updated and hasn't really needed a big fix in a while.

I just reinstalled the game, won't be able to get any new intel on my problem for the next several hours, what with real life kicking back in come Monday.

I have the new gaming ASUS laptop with Windows 7, and I'm pretty good with keeping things up to date and clean.

Let's see what happens, I'll edit the post with the update, unless anyone has any other questions they need to know the answers to?

That was a really good suggestion, it led me down the right track.

Okay, so I uninstalled--again--FFXI, uninstalled POL, and even uninstalled Steam. After reinstalling everything, and making sure I had the right version of POL, the game itself still does the freezing on and off, strobe light-like stupidity. I've called ASUS support, Sqeenix, and AMD. AMD says their newest driver should support FFXI. ASUS has their heads stuck in their "send him to the estore to buy our shit" asses, and Sqeenix says I have to downgrade, even though I'm pretty sure that doesn't make sense.

My gf has an NVidia card in her computer, and they had a specific driver for her to download to make the game compatible. I've looked everywhere and I don't see it for AMD.

Good suggestions from both of you, thank you. The problem, however, is still not fixed. ;-;
