-.-; I really hate threads like this because posting in them seems to go nowhere. But the generalizations are retarded. I am not a 'JP fangirl.' However, I think most of these threads end up being a little harsh. One of my very best and longest friendships in this game is with a Japanese player who is the nicest, most forgiving, most fun-loving player I have ever met. I have dragged her on the most retardedly set-up, dumbest excusions into the realms of 5k+ exp loss, and she laughs and is all set to go do it again the next day. She staticed with me for 15 levels on my WHM, and it is because of her alone that I have bothered to learn even a small amount of Japanese.
To those of you who are about to flame me for 'OMG learning JP for this game makes you LOSERLOLOLlolol111!!1!' ... She spoke NO english when I met her. Every conversation we had was through creative use of the auto-translator. It's been about a year since I met her now, and she speaks it reasonably well enough now to be able to be able to almost avoid the auto-translator completely.
She -tried- to learn English because she wanted to become better friends with myself and my static at the time.
I used to even think most Japanese players were unreasonable assholes who hated NA's for no reason. And then, as I got to know my JP friend better, and the communication barrier became less of an obstacle, I started hearing story after story about idiot and asshole NA's who screwed her over and humiliated her time after time, and I wondered how she HADN'T turned into someone like Serise or Lucifar or Horihori.
I am in no way excusing jerks like Lucifar or Horihori for what they do. I think it's retarded and racist of them, and I hope they rot. I hate that they've MPKed me and my shell for stupid reasons, and I especially hate that they MPKed me and my JP friend once when we were alone and posed no threat to their stupid HNM that they happened to be fighting close to us. I hope they die. But for every JP I have met that is a greedy, NA-hating bastich, I have also met one who is amazingly nice and genuinely interested in the NA players.
I'm sure that it's worthless and redundant of me to say this. But really, it -is- kind of lame to generalize all the Japanese based on your encounters with a few. Go look around the Flameboard and tell me you wouldn't generalize us the same way if you hadn't run into some of the people you call friends in this game. If you met Colbwa, Pandetech, or any of our infamous Flameboard favorites without knowing anyone cool like Sabia, Swishee, Harb, Courtney, Close, or countless others, you'd think the exact same thing about us that you think about the Japanese.
