A variety of sea bird that lives in flocks on Near Eastern islands.
On dry land, Apkallu only waddle about on their short legs, but the ocean is a different story. They propel themselves through the water with finlike wings at high speeds, enabling them to catch fish.
In the Near East, the Apkallu are a protected species and are referred to as "The Sages of the Sea." Perhaps that is why Apkallu do not fear people and behave in a friendly manner. However, angering an Apkallu is not recommended.

Apkallu are the wrath of God himself

Incase people cant access it

Anyone tried exping on apkallus yet?

We just finished an... interesting run. We were RNG/MNK/MNK/WAR/BLM/BRD, bunch of friends. We do assault and find new places to EXP afterwards. I had found a ton of Apkallus in the northwest part of the third map of Arrapago Reef - Emperor Apkallus, to be specific - and suggested we EXP on them. They looked easy enough, anyway.

At first they were great. They were like giant pillows, yielding a minimum of 150/kill or so (to a PT of 75s), all VT/IT. They only used the WS Yawn - a Sleepga WS that doesn't affect you if you're not looking at it. It was a bit too fast to stun, so we had the BLM just make a Curaga macro. We also found out they didn't aggro or link.

Eventually the Apkallus started using Beak Lunge, single-target damage+knockback. Later they started using Frigid Shuffle, Paralyga if you're facing it, and Wing Slap, single-target damage+stun. We thought it was weird that they only started using these WSes after about twenty minutes of killing.

Eventually, the RNG had to go. We decided to continue as five. At this point, one of the MNKs complained that his damage was going down, but we figured that was because of the lack of acid bolts. An Apkallu linked - we were surprised, we had never seen it happen. I Lullabied it.

Then our BLM got up when it was at half HP, cast Cure 3 - the first white magic spell of the fight - and found out what it feels like to have Apkallu beak jammed up your ass until it comes out your mouth.

The more you fight Apkallus, the higher their defense goes. One MNK says his punches were 50-60 when we arrived; now they're doing about 10. New weapon skills are unlocked the more you kill them. They don't link at first; their link radius becomes larger and larger the more you kill. They start attacking faster, and I think they get double/triple attack. White magic (but, so far as we can tell, not black, songs or ninjutsu) creates more and more hate.

Case in point: We were noticing that hate was messed up, so we tested this hypothesis. The WAR and both MNKs meleed it down to half HP, with one WS each - Rampage and two Asurans.

I then cast Cure 1.

I pulled hate, and I got raped.

What the hell is up with these things?

monsters that get stronger as you fight them. we underestimated you SE. :P

Yay little fluffy tonberry goodness. now all Se has to do is train them to hold imperial gold peices.

Btw do the beastmen in TOA areas hold currency for thf to steal?

I fought these too. There's an NPC penguin there that keeps them in line. When the NPC is there, they will not link, and are very easy to fight. Once that NPC leaves, they WILL link, have random hate spikes and any magic cast will be almost like a Provoke was used. A paladin tank might actually make a difference, but it made it so bad, the one time we fought them, we left after a few more fights.

Lol. I love these little guys...There were like 5 more, but i couldnt get them all in one picture...

I believe no, but i've not yet tested it myself. I believe Necrosis said he'd tried and failed a few times.

im also like 0/10-15ish

I'm like 0/30+ on random beastmen with steal gear. Pretty sure they don't have coins.

Phraust stole a bag of sand from one of the Cyote people, but thats all I've seen.

I heard something about trading fish to the NPC Apkallu, might cause the NPC one to stick around longer.

Btw, Kyrial, remember when you snapped at me about calling them penguins? read the description of them, particularly thier movement on land/sea. PENGUIIIIIIIIIIIIIN. :P

Well technically thier description makes them more like the Boobies on Galapagos Isle if you wanna reference SE's description of em.

I love these guys. And Qiqirn! They're so cute ;-;
And that Frigid Dance is hilarious to watch. Could go all day watching that XD at least until something contrusctive to do pops up...

I just had an idea on these guys! what if, insted of 'respawning' like all other monsters do, they, the actual one that you killed, comes back? it would make sense, becuase a camp might have 5-6 of them at one time. if you start killing, and they come back each time, then they get pissed off at you within an hour of you killing them over and over again.
