I caught this the other day. I have to say I really enjoyed this movie. It's a very mature comedy-drama that is a lot less zany than a lot of the Apatow movies. It's similar in a lot of aspects to Knocked Up in that is plays off a lot like a drama that just happens to be funny. Adam Sandler really impressed me with his acting ability. I've seen his other "serious" movies, but this time he plays a more interesting and complex character and pulls it off very well. Seth Rogen also plays a more complex character than normal and definetly shows off his stuff. Leslie Mann was so-so, but she's married to the director so whatever.

This movie drags and if you're looking for a pure comedy and find the drama parts uninteresting, the last third of the movie will turn you off. If you're interested in the character development then you'll like how it ends. I find it interesting that it plays off very realistically. It's not formulaic and it's only predictable in if you predict it based on what you think might really happen, as opposed to what you expect to happen in movies, if that makes any sense. Everything doesn't necessarily happen for a reason, and arcs aren't moving in a direction based on what the writer thinks the audience wants to have happen. In that sense, instead of watching a movie, you feel like you're simply experiencing a piece of these people's lives.

At the same time, I find it entertaining just to watch, and I find it amusing and at times very funny. So you can enjoy it on a surface level if you're not interested in its deeper themes. I do prefer movies like this though that have themes instead of messages, and allow us to take what we want out of it ourselves.
