Ok this is kind of a silly question, but what jobs can a galka do successfully? I know Melee is big for a galka (DRG, WAR, MNK, PLD, DRK,others i've missed), but how does a galka handle casting and support jobs? Is it possible to successfully play a Galka WHM, RDM, BLM, BRD, SMN? I just started a Galka, but from the last couple of times I played I was a Hume and a Taru. I know Humes have more versatility and Taru are more for casters (even though he did do well overall in other jobs), but never really tried Galka until now.
Figure i'd check here for advice and input on how well this race choice could actually do.

If you're going to cast be prepared to pay out the nose for top of the line gear or you're basicly going to be useless or at the very least not as effective as is neccessary in most places. BRD's pretty much an any race kinda thing. I played a galka for a couple years lvld all the jobs save the 3 news ones to one extent or another and found that if you have the time and money to put in to it nothing's really too far fetched on any race. It's good to note that midlvl for the RSE the galka stuff is caster gear and as a galka caster you'll prolly be wearing it for a minute as it beats the dirt out of alot of the gear for the lvl range.

So do you think it'd be best if I want overall verstatility to stick with Hume? I had a great time with my Taru, but until they implement Character Transfers between servers I really don't want to start him over again.
 
I would say for all out versatility you're going to want to roll hume, yea.

Galkas require gear to stay on par for mages and that's about the best you're going to get from a galka mage, maybe slightly better than par but only if you've got the bankroll or time to farm yourself up to par or better. If you're looking to be a jack of all trades i'd say hume is the way to go as much as i hate to talk someone out of being a galka. ;)

Surely there's more than a few people who'll chime in on this but i doubt that much has changed since i quit playing.
 
Well I guess next question if I decide to do this, If I was to buy a WP with my galka and than delete the character can I still use the WP when I create my new character? or does the WP become invalid?
 
I love my Galka, but i try and steer away from mage jobs, not only because of my limited MP pool (Lol100MP@62PLD), but because i just generally dont like them.

As RoM said, things like Astral Rings and other MP/INT/MND gear will cost ya, and could be tough for a character just starting out, but youll get relief at 27-33 with the RSE which adds boatloads of MP, and is free. I just recently partied with a 45ish Galka WHM who was wearing the afformentioned gear, and was perfectly fine. Although they say Skill > Gear, having both helps if youre a Galka mage. Play smart, know when to heal, eat the right food/juices, and you'll be fine.

Party invites may be slightly lacking, but with the constant demand on mages, it shouldnt phase your leveling time one bit.

I'm just big on getting all aspects of FFXI on, all jobs leveled, maximum fun, Maybe i'll stick with Galka, but just figuring out the whole World Pass thing just in case I do decide to switch to Hume. So if it's possible to buy a WP and still use it on a new character if the toon you bought it with is deleted let me know. thx
 
build up your character with the melee jobs, when you get the hang of making gil, you wont have a problem getting astrals and such for your mage jobs
 
Sweet. Yah I think i'll stick around with Galka. Initially I was planning on going DRG/WAR when I get up there. With that I should be able to make enough gil to screw around with some mage jobs. It'll be worth the challenge. Thanks everyone.

actually galka rse set around casting. Not saying it not going be difficult cause it will, but can be done.

Meh... Excellent MP regeneration > 1500MP in most situations. Go for it. The majority of people tend not to give a hoot what race you are really so long as you get the job done.

Also whilst galka RSE is great, don't rely on it too much. Sure its a great MP boost in the mid-levels but there are several high level mage pieces which will serve you better.
 
Galka can do mage jobs just fine. MP (high) is useless if you don't know how to manage it. That goes for all races.

I have to throw in my racist 2 cents. I hate Galka, none of my RL friends use them and we all try to avoid inviting them. Whatever a Galka can do any other Race can do better, except MAYBE PLD.. maybe. Other than that they cant match the damage of an elvaan, or the spell power of a taru, they are just big, ugly and pointless. This is only my opinion and in no way does it make me dislike someone just because they're Galka. I feel better now.

As a galka there is really only one job you need to know how to do, and that is working in the mines. Bastok needs more ore.

What about Hume then? Everything Hume can do, some other race can do it better...?
 
I think the fact that you actually go through the process of avoiding inviting a character based on their race is kinda pathetic, but that's just my humble opinion.
 
I'll put my 2 cents in... best blm I pted was a JP galka he knew his job well and never overnuked or missed the mb his gear was top of the line everything I could imagine and then some from his skill

its up to you but if you do make a galka mage I hear it helps with the mp issue that other races besides elves with the one shotting=D
