My crazy ass is planning on leveling SMN as soon as I get WHM to 37

Now I know that I should be using MP+ gear at almost any chance I can get but I was wondering If there's was anything else I need to know before playing SMN as a Galka.

As a galka? Nothing really changes except your MP pool is smaller. SMN is nuetral interms of Race qualities, Avatars go off of Summoning Magic and any Equipment that may boost their stats.

smn gets a lot of it's better gear at the higher levels there isn't really a whole lot you can do to improve gear at lower levels, just focus on getting mph foods and mp+ gear.

Learning to be effective with smn is timing your bps right and knowing how to rest to keep downtime as low as possible, it's an easy job to gear since most gear out there doesn't affect avatars directly but at the same time don't be lazy with it and you'll do just fine to 75.

Disclaimer: I am opening a huge can of worms saying so but it needs to be said!
Summoner situated in normal exp parties is best off being a main or back up healer, even after level 70, and yes even after level 75.
Until you reach level 42 where Regen and Cure III finally become available to you, you will have a real rough ride ahead of you.
Summoner is a real fun job, but be prepared, it is one of the hardest jobs in this game to level.

Now on Topic:
Yes, invest in that MP gear, especially on lower levels you will need it as you blow through it fast.
And as Galka you don't have much of that to spare, but you have the HP and natural VIT and DEF to safely equip Astral rings without risking being one shot by mobs in the case you happen to grab hate from excessive curing.

But next to MP gear like on any mage job, it is more important to factor in the speed in which you get it back.
HMP is one of the most important stats regardless of how much or little MP you have.
Having 300 MP in the dunes won't do squat when it's gone.

Until level 50 don't invest in summoning magic skill gear, there is only one option at level 35, the summoning earring which gives +3 skill but is in my opinion absolutely not worth the price asked for it and +3 skill alone won't do anything.
Even if you keep your skill capped.

At level 50 do invest in Austere/Penance gear!
(Although Penance Robe might be a bit far off, that thing is extremely rare, thus extremely pricy!)
Even if you don't have capped skill it will certainly help you with your Elemental Siphon MP return.

What can of worms did you just open? o.O;;

All of what you said is true lol

smn isn't a hard job to level imo, it can be a burden managing mp with incompetent parties though lol

The summoner is a healer in exp parties part is not quite appreciated by 'some' summoners. :)
The threads of whiny summoners I have seen throughout my carreer... :shok:

And to be honest I'm not a big fan of main healing on summoner either so I solo'd my way to 75 as soon as I had free buncle and got the hang of how to solo effectively.
But that had to do more with the limitations of main healing with the whm sub in comparison to whm main. (my first 75 job).

Eh... I leveled WHM 1st and I knew what I was getting into with SMN, I partied to 70 and then the parties died down so I solod up in Uleguard Range... Ah the memories of bombs possibly killing you and Chain #6 aGO!

A can of worms I will open up is in my own opinion:

SMN Magic > Avatar Perp - > MP

hmp > perp- > bp- > smn skill > mp

>,> imho

i feel like i should switch the first 3 around but it should be around that general ballpark

:nono:

HMP > SMN Skill > Perp > MP

And gearmacros!
Doing Blood pacts and Siphon from the menu makes me cry!

HMp > SMN Skill > BP > Perp > MP

Forgot to add that in lol, but it still applies the same to me. I solo more often then not and HMP isn't a major concern since I personally don't care how long it recovers post battle. Though in party mode or end game, I would put it above SMN Magic

HMP is quite a big factor for me on most situations, also solo.
It can make a difference on Chain#1 or Chain#2 when I am fighting chainables like Imps or the HQ goldfish.

1) HealingMP

As the job with the largest mana pool, and the most clear minds. The Clear minds aren't enough to regain your mp at a steady rate to keep your mp sufficient for party or endgame.

2) Summoning Magic

Without this or a concentrated focus of this, you're Avatars will be weaker and will this will show. This also effects the Return MP on Elemental Siphon. SMN Magic is also the ONLY trait a player has that naturally effects their Avatars.

3) BloodPact down

Is also important because it reduces the time for the next BP, but BPs are only as good as the SMN Skill applied to them when going off.

4) Perpetuation down

Honestly Perp- is cool to have an Avatar out longer or a free fenrir or carbuncle, But most of the time, these Avatars are only out for a matter of seconds before you call them back and are healing again or summoning carby to distant yourself from mobs while soloing.

5) MP

Again, you have the largest MP pool regardless of the race and Even a Galka will pull out @1200 mp ... adding any more mp gear then your accessories is insignifigant.

Its how I see it and how it works out for me.

<Please do not abbreviate your words.>

This is going to be the 1st mage job I'm taking to 75 so I only under stand about half of all these abbreviations.

I do have 2 other 75s though so I have put meriting DRG on hold and im using my points to cap MP merits atm.

Edit: nevermind Moink is way ahead of me >_>

Fixed it for you

where did you find this info? i can't honestly believe that without some major mp+ pieces, like full Zenith Serket Evoker ring etc. Even with the max mp traits of smn i can't believe they would naturally get almost 3x that of a blm (i have 470~mp without gear as blm/rdm)

something i forgot to mention, since smn skill is easier to cap now a days try to cap it as much as possible may not be likely though in exp pt since they're usually short on healers.

still if it's not capped and undercapped then smn skill+(unless it puts you over the capped threshould) wont have any effect on extending bp duration of wards less than 3 minutes or acc/m.acc of bps.

except elemental siphon

If any smn doesnt have evoker's ring by the time they can use it, they should be taken out back and shot, its not that hard to acquire. Serket ring is an accessory which I mentioned already a galka would benefit from. The 1200 is a small exageration but I'm pretty sure a Galka SMN can easily pull off1000-1100 without the sacrifice of important armor

I don't macro BPs, I find it easier and more comfortable to CTRL+B and select the blood pact lol, that's just me.

Galka SMNs look cute for me... :x >.>;

I'm a MP and Perp down lover lol. Perp down have been a matter of life or death in some situations. >.>; I still need my nashira hands though. T.T Less Bloodpact delay is good also, that's why I love relic. :3

I don't have SMN magic skill merited, as I have another mage job, and I think enfeebling magic skill would help me more, but I'm still deciding whether to finish leveling RDM or not.

Forgot to add:

I'm Elvaan F, and still missing one MP merit to make me 8/8. My current MP is 1211 with YYR and 1206 with Doublet. Once I get my last MP merit I'll have 1221. I don't use zenith pieces for SMN. I bet a Galka can reach a MP pool somewhat close to Elvaans. :) I don't know how much less MP they have comparing them to Elvaans though. I could have much more MP if I had all of my relic HQ'd (I keep dreaming lol) and a Bahamut's staff D:
