Taku Murata
General Manager, Technical Research Divi, Square Enix Co.,Ltd

Taku is the General Manager of the Research and Development Division for Square Enix Co., Ltd, a worldwide publisher known for its FINAL FANTASY, DRAGON QUEST and Kingdom Hearts franchises. With more than 15 years of video game development under his belt, Taku has played a pivotal role in the development of many of the company’s most successful and influential titles. Taku joined Square Co., Ltd. in 1991 when he started work as a programmer for SECRET of MANA. Soon afterwards, his passion and motivation drove him into the role of Main Programmer for FINAL FANTASY TACTICS and VAGRANT STORY, two key titles in the Square Enix portfolio. Taku was also instrumental in a development of PlayOnline, an entertainment network service that served as the hub for Square Enix's online games. Most recently, he served as the supervisor for the award-winning FINAL FANTASY XII for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system. As a gifted programmer, Taku has consistently delivered unique and refreshing gameplay experiences that challenge the conventions of RPG gaming. Using these experiences, he is now leading an effort to establish a technology platform throughout the company to power its Next-Generation content and services.

Well I have my 8800GT already but I hope it doesn't require DX10 for the PC. I haven't had a reason to switch to Vista and while I would switch to Vista just for FF I wouldn't really want to.

Well, one would think that the MMO will also come out on the consoles since SE pretty much only develops for consoles.

I know most would rather play these on a PC, but if its gonna cost more money to play this on the PC, and if you already have a PS3 or Xbox 360, might as well get it on the console, plus you can use keyboard on them too.

Yeah I would prefer playing it on PC. I just can't get comfortable sitting on a couch and using a keyboard. I am much more comfortable in a chair, sitting at a computer desk.

lol even if it might cost you another video card and vista? :)

I already have a DX10 videocard just for the performance in games I already play. An 8800GT should manhandle anything designed around the GPU's of the 360 or PS3. I would upgrade to Vista to play. The alternative would be not playing at all really. I've tried playing FFXI on the 360 and can't stand playing on the controller and can't get comfortable playing it with a keyboard on my lap or sitting on my coffee table. Maybe I could find a tiltable dinner tray as a compromise but as of now it is pretty much PC or nothing.

As of yet it is all guesses. I doubt they will make it DirectX10/Vista only but I could be wrong. I was just saying I hope they don't.

I used to play all my games on the PC as well, but for some reason, FFXI is the first PC game I liked more on the console. I'd rather play it on my xbox 360. Maybe it has something to do with my TV and the xbox version has more vivid colors.

But yeah I agree with you mainly. If they released a new MMO and it was good enough to try, i'd probably get it on my PC.

You guys are crazy. I've always been a console gamer. Computer monitors are too small unless you wanna shell out big bucks, and the couch is far more comfortable than the computer chair. Console games just seem to be better too. Don't get me wrong, PC has it's fair share of awesome exclusives, but being a PC gamer is just too expensive for me.

No I am a console gamer too. I just can't, or at least haven't been able to as of yet, been able to enjoy MMO's on consoles. Again any game that is better played on a keyboard causes me problems.

Keyboard + couch/recliner = uncomfortable

I wonder if the battles in this new MMORPG mimicing the battle engine of FFXIII/Kingdom Hearts will be massively high paced. As a gamer, I love the challenge and will probably have fun with it, but I don't think we'll be seeing a lot of FFXI players jumping on board if they can't keep up with the enviroment.

It's like taking someone who only knows Pac-Man, and then throw them into a Zone of Enders videogame. LOL :-D

Even though FFXI has an ATB system, if this is more like Kingdom Hearts then expect to dodge, strafe, and do all sorts of crazy defensive as well as offensive manuevers in the game. :-D

As for FFXIII, when are they going to release more in-depth info on it?
SE has been doing nothing but just talking about, "Its three games - with the title FFXIII - all in different styles - with multiple directors." Thats great and all, but start posting some media on GameTrailers.com please. :-D lol

As for buying the next gen MMO, I'd probably get it for the xbox if its good.
Buying a new computer or upgrading it could turn out to be more costly.
It depends since I've been considering on getting something better, but I'm not really in a rush.

If anything, they will do like how they've been doing with FFXI.
Probably set the standards so that PS3, X-Box 360, and PCs fully support it.
I doubt this will be a PS2 HD game. SE is going to now push the 360, PS3, and our PCs to the limits if they plan to make it as visually impressive like FFXIII.

Doh!! I take that back about no new media. Just saw some scans and info on FFXIII. :-D
However, I want some more CG movies. :-)

I doubt SE want to give any details of FFXIII away until they are past the end of March 08 when the fiscal year ends. We may see more at E3... maybe.

Here's hoping that we see the game before the end of 2008.
