We've been reviewing the various Gaming Forums and while there are some very active threads, there doesn't seem to be many new threads created on a weekly basis.

We're considering some ideas and I wanted to get your feedback about collapsing all the Gaming Forums into one forum and using thread-prefixes and tags to break them down further.

If we do this, would you like us to continue using prefixes by system (nintendo, sony, etc) or would you like to see prefixes by Game Genre (rpg, action, fighter)? We can only have one thread prefix per thread although we have an unlimited list to choose from.

I am thinking of also adding hot links for certain tags. Tags can be added to any thread - much like they are used in blogs. Maybe, if appropriate, a tag cloud for that forum but that would be later on if anything.

Please let us know your feedback over the next two days.

Well if you had to I'd say combined all the platform forums into one, but keep the FF and RPG forum. It has more traffic and its FFXI forum and stuff

Can you use 2 prefixes? Like, a sub prefix

eg. PS3 - RPG , PS3 Action, 360 - MMO

I like the idea of breaking them down.

That could lead to a long list - using the below, 84 choices. I don't think people would end up using it.

Cat 1
Nintendo
Sony
xbox
PC
Other

Cat 2
Shooter
Racing
Action
RPG
Fighting
Horror
Other

I don't have a problem with collapsing them together, although you may want to consider adding a Multiplatform prefix to the category list.

If you do end up putting them together, it would be easiest and most efficient to just use system prefixes. Dont worry about genres and whatnot, because that will most likely be in the thread title itself, or people will understand it anyway.

I suggest adding all major platforms, i.e. Gamecube, Wii, NDS, PS2, PS3, PSP, Xbox, Xbox 360, PC/Mac. After you have the most recent/popular platforms down, just add a "Multiplatform" and an "Other". That would work to list anything else thats older, such as PSX, N64, GBA, etc.

Thread would look something like this:

Wii - Animal Crossing!!
NDS - Final Fantasy IV
PS3 - Metal Gear solid 4!
Xbox360 - Some new RPG's otw
PSP - Dissidia 2
Other - NES Mario speed run, <5 mins
Other - E3 Releases by system
Multi - FFXIII Versus?!

etc. Simple, easy and efficient

this sounds about right. Maybe even make the rpg/ff forum a sub forum of the gaming forum.

Use category 2, that way no one will have to worry about multi-platform games. Honestly how many system-exclusives do we have anymore? Most games made today are multi-platform.
actually must the good games are exclusive. zelda, mario, halo, metal gear, final fantasy

But as we've seen with FFXIII, exclusivity/multiplatform(tivity?) can change in an instant.
I say just keep the genre prefixes and don't use the system prefixes. Especially because someone will be a prick and wonder why there isn't a Dr. Boy prefix to talk about the fabulous 2000-in-1 system.

I think i am leaning towards genre as well since platform specific games tend to be obvious anyway (ie: Zelda / Mario / etc).

Thank you folks :) Discussion is closed but I'll leave the thread open for prefix suggestions when all is said and done.

Wish I would have bitched a little. No organization is fail, looks like ass.

Yeah, I didn't really like the idea either but what're you gonna do.

Nothin' really, but other mergers would have been a wiser choice, though wishin' for wise around here is a shot in the dark. They are: Everything Anime, Movies & Television Galore, and Music Section into one and calling it Non-Interactive Entertainment and also merging The Lounge (off topic) with Reality Sinks in... Also, despite loving sports, our sports section isn't exactly "on par" with other areas. The Lounge was plenty enough for it. The Multi-Platform Gaming (pre cluster-fuck merger sub-forum) sub-forum should have never been created all together, that would have been another space saver.

Thought the combination is a definite mainstay, therefore fine, the forum should be re-named simply Gaming and those prefix tags should be added, as stated they would be. That would make a huge difference.
