Gaming Forum Consolidation

Fuck subforums, go back to the old way. PC/XBox/PS3/Wii/MP. Its at the bottom so if you don't want to read them, you don't have to scroll down there. I don't think it was cluttered to begin with but thats my opinion. And I highly doubt condensing them would bring in more activity. If anything it just makes it seem more active. But I'd rather have 5 posts in 4 forums than 20 posts in one forum, which is basically all this accomplished.

And like Tyrath said, now I have to peruse the Wii information that I could give 2 shits about which I could have just skipped before.

Why are you only saying this stuff now? When we were talking about this you were fairly apathetic about it.

Not really, I said I didn't like the idea like 3 times. I guess I could have been more like "No fuck you guys this is a shitty idea" instead of just saying "I don't like this idea" to get my point across, but I didn't want to be a dick. Plus I was the only one who even said anything against it at the time so I kinda figured the rest of you (mods) wanted to do it and so I just kinda thought fuck it its gonna happen anyway.

It's almost easier just to call you a moron.

How about you just do what Baja suggested, and make them all sub-forums because how it is now is an entire cluster fuck.

Here is a suggestion how about you just keep paying for the boards, and stop touching them? The things you do only make things ugly, unreadable, and in general has become useless.

Hows about Reeve is only supporting something Miros executed.
Hows about thinking we're only trying to improve the community experience.

Hows about instead of being rude about it, you think before sputtering off at the mouth. Give us feedback, not attitude.

I like the subforums idea, but it is something that can be discussed as a solution among other ideas if people propose them.

If it was mainly consolodated into One forum due to the Amount of main page space it took, why not just make the section a private forum area? Like how WoW section is (Although I've never searched the WoW bit out) I do lurk in the Gaming area now and then, but meh this is just my opinion =P.

Hey, since we merged the 4 forums, why not change the name to just "Gaming Talk"

it's pretty much assumed at this point that it's multi platform, no reason to speak the obvious

Was going to post something similiar earlier like around 2 PM, but couldn't come up with an alternative that wasn't just another way of saying "Multi-Platform."

But yeah, "Gaming Talk" works, as you could also encompass tabletop(Warhammer) and pen-and-paper(D&D) games.

On another note, what exactly spurred the whole condensing in the first place? It's not like having them spread out among the list drained a significant amount of bandwidth, so you can't bitch about too much load traffic on the forum list since it's just OH GOD WORDS. Nor does having a near-dead forum do anything to site traffic, negatively or positively. Also, what do you expect, constant activity year-round? You do know theres dry spells for game releases, right? Starting next month the individual forums would've exploded with new threads and posts as the flood of 2008 autumn/holiday releases are showered upon us. Summers just usually suck complete ass as far as the amount of quality releases are concerned.

I agree that the FF/RPG forum was redundant with the addition of the console forums, though.

For what its worth i really dont like this merge.

I miss just checking the Xbox talk thread, idc about wii/ps3 =/

Edit: I dont see the harm in leaving it seperated, how does it hurt the site? (Honest question, i dont know much about running forums)

Miros said:
Well at this point we're just getting rid of the Final Fantasy/Other RPG forum. That's all for now.

That is what Miros said after my initial post bitchin' about the atrocious change. Obviously he wasn't the one who executed this unnecessary action. He didn't even know it happened.

Condensing space and creatin' a cluster-fuck doesn't "improve the community experience". Nothing that was done and is bein' complained about now improved our community experience, it made a section of the boards look like ass. Granted, I'm pretty sure it wasn't any of you Reds who are actually community members who did this.

On the flip side you took care of one problem, nasty tags, and thanks for that. At least now it's a better lookin' cluster and only isolated to one part of the board. Hope you guys fix the rest of it back soon. However, Romper was right about one thing, it's becomin' very typical of Reeve to come in and cause a storm for the rest of you to clean up. Here's to hopin' it gets cleaned up this time.

I have a suggestion in case we are going to sort out the gaming talk threads.

1. Set up the board. ( Sub directory is good, so we can enjoy our brand more clearly, and the Home Page will continue to be more efficient)

2. Recruit a large party of voluntary QCDN gamers with a firm knowledge of what goes where, (easy to find)

3. Give the recruits the right amount or moderation power. Or in other words make them like RaidrX.

.
.
.

If we had 20 people raiding the late gaming talk board to place the threads in the right categories, it would get done extremely fast, the more people involved the better. Best guess this can be done in an hour or a little longer, depending on how many participants we have.

When all is done, the volunteers will have their moderation powers removed and everyone will smile.

I call it, The Folding@QCDN project :)

Or we can just leave it as it is and whine about it for awhile.

I prefer to think it'll go like this, if it doesn't change...

We've been reviewing the various Gaming Forums and while there are some very active threads, there doesn't seem to be many new threads created on a weekly basis

Well yeah, as others have said. Games we want to talk about don't come out every bloody week.

How about this:

Last time we had like 5 boards amirite?

How about this:

-- Playstation: PS, PS2, PSP, and PS3 Prefix set.
-- Microsoft: PC, Multiplatform, XBOX, and XBOX360 Prefix set
-- Nintendo: GB, GBA, GBC, GC, Wii, 64, etc... prefix set

Only one that would be considered "out of place" is multiplatform, but because it is likely the game is able to run on Windows, that is where I'd put it.

If using this setup Game A, which is on 360 and PS3, has a topic in Playstation and 360 threads -- who cares? If the gamer is avid enough, they can read both... otherwise info as it relates to the console will be specific to each thread.

Then, to top it off, make this a usergroup like the WoW forums. If you don't care to see these 3 new forums, don't join the user group.

Opinions?

Sounds good. A little consolidation without cramming multiple square pegs into a round hole.

Sounds much better than what we have atm ;P

Edit: But yeah, if you guys really think those 5 forums made the board too long, then wow..

So does this mean the real reason this happened was because of whiney bitches who didn't want to mouse wheel an extra click?

Yes to the Microsoft/Nintendo/Playstation idea but I don't like the usergroup idea. There just isn't a need for it. No one was complaining about space, its only 3 damn forums and its at the complete bottom (except support, but not like this is a forum people are frequenting... hopefully).

Please separate the PC games from consoles, it's just one extra sub-forum. The way it was before was perfect, and there was no good reason to change it, just leave out the Final Fantasy and Other Role Playing Games forum, that actually was a bit much, imo, and was the only thing suppose to change.

I'd suggest not making the 360 into a Microsoft forum because the 360 is the only console they have with life and people care about. The PC area is way different and it would just end up bein' another cluster. Also, you need to consider how many of us actually have 360's, that forum is about to be boomin' come next month. Sony and Nintendo have more than one popular console, helo thar hand-helds, out at the moment so just makin' them Sony and Nintendo would be better. I wouldn't worry about a multi-platform area, if a game is multi-platform people will talk about it in the area they bought it for and if people from the other side want to chime in all they have to do is do so.

As for the user group thing, I don't mind it. However, it's a bit useless. The only user group on this board that makes sense, for normal users, is the LS one. The reason it makes so much sense is because there are/could be so many LS around sifting through them would get out of hand. This would only be forums for four things: 360, Sony, Nintendo, and PC. If you're really concerned with space, to me anyway, it would make more sense to condense the Off-Topic and Reality Sinks In... forums than to squash PC gaming with 360 gaming.

Organization wins over length any day of the week. I don't care if the main page of the boards is significantly shorter or a billion scrolls, if I can't find what I need/want to find with ease and in pleasure (to my eyes), I'll find somewhere else to do it. That's not a threat at all, that's just where all of this is stemming from on my end.

Anyway, big thanks for gettin' all of this junk sorted out man.

There were no particular "whiney bitches" it is part of an overall encompassing strategy to "reign in the boards" if you will... Yes, it failed but you live and learn -- then get lulz...

We're really not doing this to be irritating.

To be honest, I think the community as a whole would appreciate the boards never change from what they were before the "condenser". You don't need to fix what is already perfect. Not to mention it's easier on you guys to not change content but manage what is already here. Seriously, the boards were absolutely perfect before this change. I may be wrong on the "community as a whole part" but you'd see a lot less bitching for sure.
