My fault. I misread the first paragraph and didn't see you were addressing Trippy when you quoted me. You formatted it just fine; I'm the idiot.

They consider themselves Christians and say Jesus is the head of their church, which makes them Christians, no matter what other churches think about it. That's why I lumped them into one group. Mainstream Christians can push them away with a sharp stick, but it doesn't change how they identify themselves. I think all of them are cracked, which is why I don't make distinctions about which one is supposedly more legitimate.

It's like when mainstream Christians cluck at the Westboro Baptist Church and say, "Oh, but those people aren't real Christians." Sorry, but they are. Stupid, fuckwad pig-ignorant Christians, but Christians just the same.

you see if you replace the topic of the conversation with any sort of group you can sound like any side against anything, there's a serious problem here if we dont see the correlation.

do you really rely on sterotypes as a crutch to your beliefs? It's not better than extremist X groups that do the same

That was a lot of cleanup for a discussion that has been going on for a while now without baiting. Keep it that way.

Have you actually read that book?

That book isn't purely written ti disprove God through logic, he actually brings up a lot of valid points about why there MIGHT BE a god. He go about the topic in a logic well thought-out manner, and don't use non-existant proof like the Bible do. And, as I said earlier, he also bring up a lot of valid arguments on BOTH sides, both why it is logical a God exists, and why god don't exist.

One more post referring to removed material will result in a lock. Move on.

This thread has elements of religion to it. They should not be the basis for pot shots or disrespect. I would appreciate it if everyone took a step back, realized words do in fact have meaning, and respond appropriately.

Halifirien, your atheist outlook is fine. You're inclined to point out extremes because, hell for all I know, emotions run high in topics like this. Please, EVERYONE, tone it down. Censorship is not the answer to offensive remarks, but I have to be fair. Just like gay groups shouldn't be called "faggots", I won't see it happen that we start calling Christians "magicians" or the like.

Lets not remark on the irony of stereotypes as sources of discrimination, and then pursue discrimination/disrespect in other forms. Once I read through the topic, I may remove posts if the topic doesn't correct (or already has corrected by the time I get to the most recent posts -- if so, don't quote this in topic. PM me. I'm reasonable).

I haven't read the book myself but if this is true I don't see why this would be something an atheist would take as seriously as a Christian does the Bible. That is, if it's stating his opinion about why God MIGHT exist.

/sigh. May as well lock it. Point was made. All you're going to get now are people insulting one another because they can't get past the fact that people believe/behave the way they do for a reason and just because they don't have a reason to believe/behave the same way, it makes them wrong and worthy of insulting.

Go go close minded people.

This topic is the PERFECT EXAMPLE of why people always say that discussing "The Big Three" topics (religion, politics, and sex) should never be done in a public forum. I would personally recommend that if QCDN plans to allow discussion of these topics that a private forum be made requiring users to sign up to join it, so it's kept private. This makes the site look bad, to be completely honest.

This thread was originally to bring attention to an insult from the powers that be in state government. Allowing people (whether straight or gay) the freedoms deserved as human beings.. not believers or non-believers. Establishing and the recognition of Gay couples as legitimate married couples. It touched slightly on religious beliefs, which I myself made mention of but it really has got out of hand.

Discussion of one factions legitimacy vs another's within this thread is a complete derailment and should not have continued.

I don't judge people by what they believe. Believing in something, anything, is a good thing. believing in something bigger than yourself is healthy for the mind. As a Christian, I don't and wouldn't pretend to know all about what others believe in. I know nothing about what its actually like to be an atheist and I wouldn't try to push my religious beliefs on such a person. I would hope they would would show me the same respect.

Another interesting note is, I read there is a large portion of the gay community in California that has not voted or even registered to vote. If that wasn't stated in this thread already.

I'm apt to agree that this topic needs to be reviewed.

After careful reading, I'm going to have to say this tread isn't in the best interest of the site to keep discussion going. Both sides seem to have their heated opinion and I don't see anyone being swayed by the arguments on either side.

As I've said before and is said in the rules, heated debates aren't for this forum. I'll allow a little more give for them in Reality Sinks In, but this is bordering on personal attacks so it needs closing.
