Ok here is the deal. I am currently 33 BST close to 34 and I am not sure exactly what I should be going for gearwise. You can say I am a nub for BST or w/e but are there any pieces of gear that I should get that stands out for the rise to 75?

Apollo's Staff is probably one of the single most important pieces, for charming.

This.

(Dont be cheap and go with Light staff. 5% is a huge difference)

Charm+1 Axe @ 33?
Woody/ManEater
Lv 40 Accuracy+3 shield
Tatami Shield
Corsette+1
Melody Earrings
Bibiki Seashell
AF :dur:
Reraise Earrings / Gorget
Trainer's Gloves

I think thats the only gear I used full time (I didnt swap pieces for TP)

You can level like me and be cheap! Save money! No one cares! Just improve yourself at 75 XD

Pre Level 50 - RSE + Charm+1 Axe at 39. Get 1 viking axe at 48 or 2 if subbing NIN
Pre Level 60 - Full AF (ya it works, but if you got S.Harness/Haubergeon go for it)

Expensives: Krabaken's Axe (forgot exact name, but adds "Slow" effect) (not needed but will make life a bit easier)

Leopard Axe's poison effect triggers often and is quite potent, might help speed up kills.

<crazy speculation>

I've levelled "BST" a "several" times, and have always (been cheap and) used the Light Staff. I really doubt it will change that much for some reason, or somehow "Charm" is a "hidden skill" like Chocobo Digging and will get better over time as you use it as I don't think my charm rate will get any better at all. Even on DRK (current /BST project) the charm rate is as good/worst/random as BST main.

</end crazy speculation>

Ogre Head/Feet aren't too bad for TPing in either. Hands can be used for Reward macro.

Personally, I'd say the most important thing you'll get is you Light (or Apollo's) staff @ 51. I went the HQ because I have other mage jobs that'll use it, so it was an easy justification to me. If you're only going to use it on BST, I'd say go NQ.

I didn't get into crazy gear swapping until the later levels when I got decent melee items like (Optical Hat, Hauby, etc) AND the Bison gear. If you're a EM -> T BST player, then I'd do this. If you're fighting DC (or less) mobs, then you can pretty much stay in your AF. There were many-a-levels I did DC mobs (lower risk, higher availability of pets & prey, or if I was having beers), so when you chart out your camps over a couple of levels, you can plan for your gear at the same time.

Welcome to the BST life... :)

Why the light staff.. I dont see any merit in it? Someone explain lol

+10/15% Charm rate success (Light/Apollo)

If you are solo/duo I think you can be cheap as humanly possible and still get away with it.

I didn't get Apollo's staff until after 75 and didn't see a huge difference from the light staff. (Huge difference can be seen if you don;t have the staff though)

There's so many different play styles for this job nowadays, I guess the gear is dependent on that to.

If you let your pet tank, go as gimped as ya want without being naked. Sometimes it is best not to be noticed. Be your pet's added dot damage, but be sure you can take a hit now and then.

If you jug pet it you are gonna get hit a lot more, and take more hate than usual. Some good ol Def and Attack gear would be prudent.

If you are a PT bst... dress like a war, and use good juggies.

For CHR the light staff in the 50's is the best thing to buy. Before the 50's though Corsette +1 is your friend.

You AF axe is also coming soon. It's a good peice to have and is free.

My duo partner spent most of his time in AF. Honestly the difference was not even seeable on damage and charming from someone who upgraded when they could.

If you're a solo BST and going to skimp a little, skimp on the mellee gear. You really, really want your chances to charm to be as high as possible, and while you want to be able to hit stuff, you don't want to be taking hate from your pet.

I always preferred lower, consistent hits, to damage spikes which may take hate (but then I did fall in love with the sins Axe that used to take hate a lot when you can first wear it...)

True on the melee gear.

I've been using Multilator [Scythe, Level 40, +3 Accuracy] as DRK/BST for the last .... 25 levels? lol.

After I broke down and got apollo's staff it seemed..i repeat SEEMED..my mischarms went down considerably. It could have just had a placebo affect on my brain tho.

Should I use that +1 charm axe instead of the monster signa?

No

edit: Charm+ = Increased Charm duration, CHR+ = Increased Charm success

lol damn fast response. So I guess I am using monster signa up until Light staff?

I F5 alot at work :\

Yea, if you have it, use it

Or upgrade to this if you're feeling rich:
