Gears' Longshot Aim

I recently picked Gears back up and have noticed a few changes. I use to shoot over the shoulder to get a headshot with the sniper rifle but now it doesn't work. Neither does a square line up of the head, neck, slightly above the head... nothin'. What do you guys aim for? Maybe it's my connection as well as I've noticed I have to put a lot more effort into killing everyone with every weapon but the Lancer. Watching videos of sniper montages lead me to believe it's my connection as everyone seems to line up dead on the head. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've always aimed right at the head, and i've personally never heard of anyone doing anything other than that. I think you're just wierd.

Yep right on the head, or a lil in front if they are roadie running. I used to be a wicked sniper back in the day when i played a lot (around when it came out) but i havent really played much since i started lacrosse and then since summer, so im just okay now. I'll probably play more when the map pack gets released for free.

Found out what I need to do and it's rather stupid. I have to hold the crosshairs on the target well after the shot for it to register. I'm use to just moving right after I pull the trigger to another spot but I guess I'll have to slow it down now. Has to be a connection issue. Loaded a game up with a friend last night with him hostin' and all of my guns took an extra second to register. Wierd thing is, is that I actually have to hold my position or the lagged shot goes off course Oo.

Decided i would necro~ish this thread, since i was playing gears last night and this happened to me. I had more snipe kills with the pistol than i did with the long shot, by far. My conncetion has always been great, BUT on gears, and only on gears, it goes straight to hell.

I hate the longshot. I never use it. The two kills I have made with it have both been headshots though. It's not that I suck with it. I just prefer not to use it.

I fixed my problem. Since Gears is plague with latency problems, you -CAN NOT- move your feet (left thumbstick) while snipin' or the bullet goes off course (seriously, like, anywhere it wants to off course). Now, it's said if you match the speed of movement with the left thumbstick on the right thumbstick (push them opposite at the same speed) but that's bullshit (tested and proved; it's luckier than a blindfire headshot from around the corner). But anyway, try keepin' your feet still while you shoot. It sucks but hell, let's hope they learned from this multiplayer fuck up. Also, it's not your connection that sucks. It's the host's connection that sucks.

I hate the Longshot too but I'm better with it than I am the shotgun so that makes it close to my most used weapon. I prefer the Torque Bow. I've got more blindfire from cover headshots than Shotty dance wins :/

I would agree with you, but its about every game i join that has the same delay of lag. (Tested by shooting a shotgun at the start of spawn and seeing how long it takes the bullets to hit the ground)

I'm actually the exact oppisite now. I can get downs really easy with the longshot, but there is always the one antsy teammate that steals everyones kills. With the shotgun, i don't have to worry about that as much.

I'm actually the exact oppisite now. I can get downs really easy with the longshot, but there is always the one antsy teammate that steals everyones kills. With the shotgun, i don't have to worry about that as much.

But that's still not just your connection. It's known as host advantage, unless you have a T3 connection you will always experience "bullet lag" in GOW as long as you aren't the host.

With the sniper, you have to aim a little ahead of where they are or where they are going to be. It takes a little more practice than sniping as host.

Also, perfect reload snipes are super effective. Random fire and get a perfect reload, down someone, reload let em get up and snipe em in the face. Or run up and beat em down. But see, where it looses its points over my favored Torque Bow, which has the same ridiculously low swing delay, is that it's not always a garuntee kill and there is only a one out of a million chance you can get a multi-kill. The Longshot is defiantly under the Torque on my list at number 2 though. I've gotten some of my swagger back and have been hittin' runners and movers just fine lately but -if- I am havin' an off day, I'll just snag it for the AR/Beatdown combo like you said.

I've never been good with the torque and i dont know why. I can snipe bitches like mad (i've gotten 2fers with snipe before) but im just shitty with the torque. I stick with Sniping or shotgun, maybe some lancer on warzone. I'll use the hammer for shits and giggle every once in awhile too.

This always makes Annex interesting on the Fuel Depot map XD People go up by those Hammerbursts in the corners of the fence and the block and just like to get fried.

Gears of War is a cool game, but it sucks at handling non-server side connections (like HALO does). There is a video that explains the lag problems but I can't find it. This one is closer to what I do when sniping. I aim at the direction he is going, in the head area. You need to shoot to the floor and count the seconds till the impact shows (that will help you calculate how bad is the lag).
