So yeah I was playing Gears earlier today, starting up my current campaign. As the game loads up from my last check point, I get a call from a friend asking to check something at her house out. So I hit escape and click the "Quit Game" button and leave the house, come back an hour or so later and when I start the game and click the "Continue Campaign" button, it says there isn't a saved file on my profile. I was well into the game I believe, when I'm headed to the Fenix estate. I'm sure there's nothing I can do about it now as I'm starting the game up all over again but has this happened to anyone ever?

That happened to me a while ago, I was only about an hour or so in, but my save file disappeared somehow.

This just happened to me again, has anyone heard of a way to restore the saves or at least what causes it? I think I was about halfway through the game, and I'm finding it hard to muster up the will to go back through the game again, especially if it could completely reset my progress at the drop of a hat.

If you aren't signed in to Windows Live (curse you Microsoft!), your game isn't saved.

It was saved for a long time though. I played it for a few weeks then got busy and when I went back today it was gone.

Do you have to sign back in perhaps?

I can't even get it to start now. I click on my desktop icon, and right after the Gears of War image appears I get the error wargame-g4live.exe has encountered an error and needs to close.

I've been scouring the internet for the three hours now and I haven't found anyone with this same problem. A lot of people are experiencing crashes during game play though.

I've tried re-installing Games for Windows Live, as a few people said that fixed the problem. When I read that, I remembered that this problem didn't occur until I installed Games for Windows Live. After re-installing didn't work, I tried just running it without the software and I didn't even get to the Gears of War image before a new error came up.

I updated my graphics drivers, that didn't help either. I'm going to try re-installing the game, but if anyone here knows why this is happening, I'd appreciate some help.

Also, for those of you who have lost your save games - Here is a 41 page thread on the Epic forum about save games being lost, I didn't read much of it, but it may help.

If you start the game from the auto play option, that might be whats causing it to crash. I gave up on this game a while ago because of the many problems I was having with it. Try the official website again, I remember reading some threads there that might have a solution to your problems.

Re-installing fixed the instant crash issue, but now it's crashing every 15-20 minutes. I've tried all the fixes I've seen posted on the forums, I'm just going to hope that it either goes away (since it didn't used to be like this) or a new patch is released.

My shit keeps crashing too. I got through act 1 fine, now I'm guarding the gas station before fueling up the car. Now it crashes every 3rd or 4th time I reload; total pain in the ass because those boomers keep blowing my ass across the continent.

Haven't lost a savegame yet though thankfully.

If you load GoW up on 360, I presume it pulls the same save profile and you can continue from there up until the end of act 4?

I don't have a 360, so I don't know, but since it's a Live ID, I'd assume so.

I just suffered through the crashes, playing a little bit each day. I uninstalled once I finished the game. Hopefully Gears of War II won't be so fucking buggy.
