Here's the article:
News > New Line Cinema to Make Gears of War Movie

The rights have been secured. New Line has signed a deal with Gears of War developer, Epic Games, to make a movie based off of the award-winning Xbox 360 game.

Lead designer Cliff Bleszinski (better known to gamers as Cliffy B) is to act as the movie's executive producer, and Stuart Beattie, the screenwriter of Collateral, will be penning the movie script. The film is to be produced by Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey of Temple Hill.

Epic has plenty of Gears backstory to go around, and is planning with New Line to release a videogame sequel around the same time as the movie. When that time comes, gamers will surely be in for a treat.

Maybe its just me, but I'm ok if not every video game becomes a movie.

i agree but when i heard this one i was sorta like "cool". but when i heard that WB is making a movie bout WoW i was like what a freakin stupid idea.

If it aims for an over the top late 80's early 90's action vibe it could be a fun film, think Predator. Anything other than that and it will probably be full of fail.

Playing GoW I couldn't help but think of some of those hyper masculine lines from Predator like "I aint got time to bleed."

Oh and speaking of games with the abbriviation GoW, God of War is supposed to be getting a film adaptation as well.

Yeah, it would work if they went for the "bullet porn" feel Predator had. They're working with a fairly barebones story at this point though, to say the least. Hopefully the game's sequel will start resolving that.

That was my problem. Any story they use for the movie they are going to have to make up, because there was almost nothing in the game.

But yeah, the only way this would work would be a gritty and violent kill-fest, filled with bad one-liners and gore.

If they included The Lancer and used the bayonette to maximum effect, flesh chunks, dismemberment and all, I'd buy a ticket for that alone. That and some curb stomps.

I think it can be awesome. I mean the story in the game was great, and tbh it sucked ass. If you play the game you know what i mean, no back story, no real end, but i still thought it was a sweet plot line and has alot of potential.

They storyline is there in print, just not fleshed out in the games. They wouldn't be making it up, Epic would supply the storyline I suppose. Though, nothing that would spoil GoW II or III (I heard it's part of a trilogy).

Personally, I want to see it on the big screen. It'd be intense, but playing the game is much better.

Isn't there Gears novels on the way?

Movies based on video games are always a horrible idea. Every time I hear about another one, I think back to this:

WHY JOHN LEGUIZAMO, WHY?!

Well, to be honest, Epic actually has input on this project. I can assure you no one turned to Miyamoto for that movie. I, personally, still have low expectations.

Mortal Kombat (1 not 2) and Mario Bros. were excellent movies.

Let's not forget the greatest movie of all time across the universe and beyond, Street Fighter.

Street fighter was worth it for when john claude van dam uppercuts bison and sends him flying, and they zoom in on the american flag on his giant bicep. It reminded me of "Hard target".

First off, Perry Bible Fellowship = awesome.

Second, while MK 1 was not bad, Mario Bros was awful. Easily one of the worst parts of my childhood.
