When questioned on the possibility of the exclusive Gears of War PC content appearing on the Xbox 360, we found that the while technically possible, the chances are looking rather dim. While Mark Rein dodged the issue more or less, we found Cliffy B to be a bit more cooperative. "If we didn't have any exclusives on the PC, why would anybody have the PC version?" When asked if the extra content was a timed exclusive, Cliffy replied with "to-be-determined."

Being the persistant folks were are here at AMN, we pressed a bit further. According to Mark Rein the chances of the PC content arriving on 360s is "unlikely." "I don't want fans hopes up..."

sucks but makes sense

simple solution:

keep the map maker PC

give the extra campaign content to 360

Every couple of months, have a competition to see whos PC maps could make it in to a quarterly/biyearly map pack for Xbox Live.

thats a great solution actually, hopefully cliffy b comes up with a good common ground to meet on, i have this thing about the games for windows latley. I want some of the games, but if i already own them on xbox 360 i dont really want to buy them again,
for instance, i wanted to buy shadowrun for vista, and i could have but i would have to buy the wireless controller adapter too...so im just rather gonna wait on my friends box to be fixed.
i want halo 2 for the map maker and achivements...i just cant see myself spending that much on a game thats been out this long and ive played so much already and i cant even play with my friends online since they are on xbox...

I don't think anything's coming to 360. But really it doesn't matter.

I assume they're going to have online co-op but what about splitscreen? That's like 90% of the reason I wanted to get it on 360, don't think I've ever played a PC game splitscreen before. I guess with 2 usb controllers it could be done and a HD TV with VGA or DVI... but, will they even include the option for so small of a potential audience?

If there's no option for splitscreen I'd rather play on the 360 once they fix their fucked up hardware. Cheaper than upgrading my PC.

Doubtful. I can't recall any console to PC port that retained it's native form of multiplayer. I'm sure there are some, but they're in the vast minority of titles.

Why would PC splitscreen require an HDTV? You can do 360 splitscreen on an SDTV, which runs in 4:3. PC displays, be they CRT or LCD, can do that along with 15:9/15:10 and 16:9/16:10.

I was ecstatic to hear this was finally coming to PC. I played splitscreen on 360 for the better half of the storyline campaign, but I can't stand the limited view of splitscreen and just couldn't finish it.

I believe the word was that X360 players would not be able to play against/with PC players, but it's likely far too early to tell. There is a fairly distinct advance to mouse users, particularly when it comes to hairline shots with a sniper rifle or grenades... but then again this is coming from a guy who hates gamepads so it's likely I just didn't get the finger trickery down well enough.

Well you aren't going to have a big enough monitor for splitscreen.

You are going to need either a TV that has VGA/DVI in or a video card with S video out.

If they support splitscreen for those of us with that, so I could play Gears of War with my friends offline, then I'd consider the PC version. Otherwise I'll just wait until the old 360 models clear out, new ones are confirmed reliable and probably a post Halo price cut.

Have you been to an electronics store lately? PC displays are pretty large these days.

I could play splitscreen on mine, if I had enough room for another person to sit by my PC.

Bullshit move in my opinion. Epic will never see another dime of my money. I would have eventually gotten over the continuing story and forgave them but Cliffy B. opened his mouth with another spill of trash (they really need to keep him from talkin'). He openly says on their E3 video that the reason for the extended campaign is to make people buy the PC version. That's some serious bullshit. First he calls us gamers idiots by sayin' one of the reasons behind not making a UC3 is because it seemed "too hard" for us. Now this... If they were porting it it'd be fine but this is just sloppy. Gears is a console game. One of the most popular to date and the people who made it a success isn't even going to be able to follow up the story unless we have a top notch PC.

I have a 21 inch monitor which most people consider big, but if I'm playing with a friend we are going to be several feet away so we have our personal space.

21? My roomate is chilling with a wide screen 42 inch hi def monitor. That was only a mere 1k. Apparently large scale monitors like that are the real popular thing now cause you can hook up HDTV cable boxes to them and they are a helluva lot cheaper then an equivalent TV.

lolStrid. 360 owners everywhere made Gears a success! Epic had nothing to do with it!

Tell me about how much the game sucks now!

Mine was a few hundred bucks when I bought it, and when I got it people were like "whoa!" Now I mostly use the VGA cable in my 32-wide inch high def TV. Of course it's not the same quality through VGA as DVI which I'm assuming your roommate is using. But I assumed most PC gamers don't have big monitors. Could just because all the PC gamers I know are either poor motherfuckers playing Warcraft all day or live in dorm rooms so they wouldn't take a big ass monitor.

Myself, I'm running an Athlon 2400 so yea, that's where I'm at. Upgrading my PC is not on my radar until UT3, Gears of War and Crysis are all out and I can calculate a price to be able to run all of those. It'd be a lot of fun to build my own PS3 games off UT3 mod maker on the PC... I must confess. But will Gears have co-op support?

And you have the audacity to call yourself educated... If it wasn't for us, it wouldn't be a success. You can make the best product in the world and if you don't have the buyers, it's nothing. Without us, the game would have flopped. Don't be a tool, get some brains and get my cock out of your head. Going to bold this for you so I don't have to repeat it later, even though, I'll probably have to...

Epic made a game. Not a successful game but just a game. They then release the game to the public. We bought the game in so high volume, it made the game a success for Epic. Now, they made a successful game. See spot run?

So 4 million people wasted their $60 on a shit game and Epic should be grateful they aren't in the poorhouse? Got it. Guess I'm lucky they didn't make a PS3 version, cause damn I would of fucked up bad and bought it!

I figured that one would go over your head. Oh well, I tired.

No, I understand what you're saying. You're saying if they released it anyway but as a 360 Exclusive that it would have sold less copies. You're also saying that it didn't help to massively increase the 360 install base, grow the 360 community and provide a great gameplay experience that 360 owners should be happy to have.

Apparently the hardware itself sells the 360. An amazing 67% nonfailure rate, a cutting edge DVD drive and a standard wired ethernet adapter is good enough, who needs the games?

Epic is finished with Gears of War 360. If they were going to port maps to 360 it'd have to be at the expense of delaying UT3 for 360 or their work on Gears of War 2. Their philosophy is that if they could give it out for free, then everyone would have it, everyone could play together with it, more people who were on the fence might buy Gears of War and they'll increase their guaranteed sales of Gears of War 2. It's better than the small percentage who'll actually pay for the maps. Actually porting that content would be really hard and it wouldn't make them a lot of money since everyone will be playing Halo 3 anyway. To top it off, if they sold it there'd be far less people who would become loyal to their brand and some people who might resent them.

Assuming the map files actual structures don't change between the two versions of the game, exactly how would it be difficult - or even time consuming - to just throw them up on the marketplace?

Sure, digging through thousand of player submitted maps takes a lot of time, or a lot of people.

But I don't think you realize exactly how many people work at Epic. Shit, I didn't even realize until the end credits of Gears of War. And I doubt thats all of Epic. It's not like hand picking these maps would require Cliffy B himself to play on them and decide.
